AML,
There's no such thing as "just a riding instructor." I admire anyone with the dual talents of understanding both equine and human psychology. You could not have remained in the horse riding business for so many years without a deep understanding of horses and humans.
You have witnessed something that doesn't have any easy answers and even though you don't feel you can give the patches a 100% efficacy vote just yet, you obviously feel there may be something to it after all.
The problem is, as has been mentioned many times on this forum, it's not possible to draw a simple cause effect conclusion from such simple "trials" however well intentioned these "trials" are.
Sound scientific trials are fraught with difficulties. History is littered with "conclusive" trials that fell apart when people trying to replicate results said "but what about..? and "did you allow for...?" etc.
Your situation goes much deeper than the patches working or not (and of course, it is my opinion they do not). It gets to the heart of why so many "believers" use them or want to use them.
Wouldn't it be amazing if such a product really worked!
And now we are back to the main problem. David Schmidt has set up many people to believe in a worthless product and in some cases experience results. His company will have a finite life; its demise is as inevitable as the sun going down later today.
I have mentioned previously the amazing new research carried out in the USA regarding the placebo effect. Just because something is a placebo does NOT mean it can't produce quantifiable changes in the body.
I have also stated previously that in my opinion David Schmidt sells placebo patches of glucose and glycerin at exhorbatant prices. If he were to market "LifeWave Placebo Patches" I would not have the slightest objection to his business.
You had results that you could see with a horse. You have concluded that the horse, and by inference animals in general, are not subject to the placebo effect.
You may want to do some research on the topic as your reasoning is not quite that simple. You know only too well how different riders can bring out different characteristics in a horse. Some horses cannot be ridden by some riders; they are completely out of control.Up gets another rider and amazingly the horse becomes manageable and rides beautifully.
I've taken up too much space on this posting, as usual, but will finish with a concern I have posted previously.
What if your friend with MS gets "relief" from the condition and it appears to be from the patches? Do they buy thousands of patches because they are afraid they won't be able to get them soon when the company collapses?
What if they use the patches in a month but this time they feel worse than they have ever felt? Is it due to the patches?
It is always my concern that genuine people will be left high and dry, wondering, when this scam company goes down. Who is going to be there for them then?
Is is all about high priced placebo patches giving false hopes to deserving people?

I now see what everybody else with this forum is talking about. Mine was only an opinion of what I witnessed, not an endorsement! It's sad that it seems the goal of some is to shoot down anything and anyone who opinion is different than what they "believe" to be true.
I am a very scientific person, I failed to disclaim that I am also a AHT (Animal Health Technician) and have seen first hand certain technics and products work on some and not on others. So needless to say this product MAY NOT work on others as well. Also none of us that were there except the Vet had ever heard of or seen this product before. The brochure on the product was not given to us until AFTER all what I discribed had taken place. So there was "NO PLACIBO EFFECT" because there was no knowledge of what she was trying prior to or during, only after.
As far as "different riders go, yes you are right, but I was talking about "at Hand" work not, mounted work. The horse was walked the length of a 10 stall barn before the treatment, then given the patches for only 10 min. then walked again the same distance, sorry I did not explain that in detail before.
In conclusion, in this day and age with so much new "nanotechnology" which by the way I"m not sure I quite believe either, why not "live and let live" and if it works for some and not others, THEN SO BE IT!!!!! Remember, we do live in a country where free enterprize exists! If you had a product that you TOTALLY BELIEVED in, how would it be if someone like yourself and others in this forum, shot it down because they DID NOT HAVE THE SAME OPINION OR BELIEF}. But fortunately we live in a society where "Free Speech" exists too, so have at it! The key words here are "Free Enterprize". Let people see for them selves, give them credit for being able to figure out for them selves if it is right for them or not, no one says anyone HAS to buy it!
Thanks again for letting me voice "My Opinion". and with this last comment I am out of this loop! Good luck in trying to prove your point, when sooo many people in this world are trying to find solutions to their ailments and problems. |

here he is::::::::::::::David Schmidt In Rhode Island
Sacred Stone Center for Holistic Education and Therapy
Sunday, Oct 2 from 1-6pm.
To: All Lifewave Members
From: Rhode Island Lifewave Distributor & Ayurvedic Practitioner Karyn Chabot, D. Ay., LMT
David Schmidt has kindly agreed to find time in his busy schedule to help support our efforts here in the Rhode Island area.
With such short notice we need all New England distributors to pull together to make this event an outstanding success. Here's our chance to really springboard our businesses with David's help.
David will be presenting the science behind this technology, where to put the patches, success stories, and strategies for financial success as a distributor for Lifewave. David will inspire us to continue to facilitate the "wellness process" for our clients, family, friends and ourselves by increasing energy in the body.
Karyn will be presenting on how the science of Ayurveda (the ancient healing system from India) is aligned with the Lifewave philosophy. She will also speak about patch placements on the marma points along the meridians of the body, how to eat for your Ayurvedic constitutional imbalance, what forms of exercise, breath-work and yoga would be best for you.
All New England distributors (and anyone else outside the area who wishes to attend) should get in contact with Karyn immediately.
If you are a distributor who has prospects in the area that you would like to get to these events send an email to .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for details or watch for the event to be posted on your replicated website. go get him ::::::::: |

Sorry that you feel your point of view was discounted. Also sad to see you don't intend to contribute further to the discussion.
So, for the rest of us...a few thoughts about AML and the "test" with the horse.
1. The vet that AML mentioned in their 2nd post. Was this vet a distributor?
The brochure on the product was not given to us until AFTER all what I discribed had taken place. So there was "NO PLACIBO EFFECT" because there was no knowledge of what she was trying prior to or during, only after.
2. If you walk a horse and get it's muscles warmed up, then rest it for ten minutes with patches on, would it be surprising if it walked longer in the stride?
What were you all doing there with a horse if it wasn't some kind of "experiment" or "test"? Were you just passing the time of day and without anyone's knowledge, yours, the vet, everyone else and the horse, secretly placed the patches?
As AML has stated they are not going to post any more, the posting appears "suspicious" to say the least.
I still stand by my statement that before this mess is over with there will be many genuine people left high and dry.

The vet was not a distributor, because when the horse owner asked if she could get it for them, she said no, contact the manufacturer. She was only trying it out and had a few brochures from someone else.
The horse was seeing a chiropractor for stiffness, soreness under the saddle and bucking at the canter. The horse has been under my training for 2 years and has had this problem for a while, after the patches he moved out better than he ever has!!! He was adjusted after the patches and after the second time walking only about 50 ft!!!!! What do you think everybody is stupid! GET A LIFE! AND I"M DONE WITH YOU FOOLS! AML,
You did say you would only post twice.
And where does all your anger come from? I think you need to try a patch and relax a little.
I'm glad you feel you have found a good solution to the horses' problem. Perhaps you can figure out what to do when you can no longer get the patches.
I certainly do not think everyone is STUPID, just some people.
As the phrase goes, "You can fool some of the people some of the time...". |

Gee, I thought Lifewave patches were supposed to transmit a signal to your body's cells (like a cell phone) to tell them to burn more fat for energy. What the hell does that have to do with making a horse walk better?
I guess the patches will do whatever you believe they will do. |

If these patches defy the laws of physics, how do you manufacture them? Where do you find a manufacturer with physic-defying machinery and equipment?
The only thing I need to know that convinces me that it is a scam is the patent, or lack thereof. This great "technology" is not protected. Why? |

Captain Al you don't get it. The patches do burn fat as an energy source but they also open up the bodies meridians and balance them and help to get rid of toxins. This process results in pain relief for many. Why not try them on someone with MS, fibromyalgia, arthritis, etc and let them tell you how they feel. Or better yet try them yourself!! |

Sgt. Slaughter,
Yes I do get it. Pain relief via ancient Chinese dogma was not not discussed in LifeWave's "scientific" literature as far as I recall. All LifeWave says is: the patches communicate with your cells (like a cell phone, remember) to tell them to burn more fat. They say nothing about getting rid of toxins and they should know since they invented them, right? And since when is MS caused by toxins???
Or maybe LifeWave patches are so fantastic, they do things even the inventor doesn't know about? |
Sgt. Slaughter
|
Posted: Sun Sep 18, 2005 | 09:52 AM
Captain Al,
Lifewave can only claim that they burn fat as an energy source. This is how they are stated in the patent application and is important for FDA reasons.
I am describing to you what acupuncture and the bodies meridians do. The patches are involved in this process. SOrry you don't believe in "ancient Chinese Dogma". Hopefully you don't ever have to use this as a last ditch effort to get rid of your pain. You would need a whole tub of water to swallow your foot!!
They do get rid of toxins as well. Most people will get a metallalic taste in the back of their throat the first time they wear them. SOme people get headaches and sore throats when applying them for the first few times. This is your body detoxing. That's fine if you don't believe in this. The truth is this does happen and if you would try them, my guess is your body could use some major detoxifying and you would see what I am talking about. By the way this is not in people's heads because lifewave literature does not talk about this so people shouldn't experience these effects. The only thing they are thinking about is an increase in energy. |

Sgt. Slaughter,
If Lifewave patches really do "rid the body of toxins", why can't they claim that? They would be telling the truth wouldn't they? If Lifewave does not publicize this "fact", how do you know about it? Since you are claiming it here, are you in violation of some FDA regulation?
You said: "Most people will get a metallalic taste in the back of their throat the first time they wear them."
Not one single person on this thread has mentioned this "fact". Each and every person who tried the patches, and said they worked, has stated that they feel GREAT. There has been no mention of a "metalic taste".
Your last two sentences make no sense at all:
"By the way this is not in people's heads because lifewave literature does not talk about this so people shouldn't experience these effects. The only thing they are thinking about is an increase in energy."
So you say people experience "these things" but because Lifewave doesn't talk about it, they shouldn't? Even though the patches are doing something the FDA doesn't allow them to talk about, I won't experience it because it's not in the Lifewave brochure? Maybe you need to go back to Lifewave School and get your story straight.
Detoxifying the body is one of the biggest laughs spewed by alternative "medicine". If your body had "toxins" like you describe, you would be dead. Another good one is these "meridians" and the need to "balance" them. If you can prove this, there is a $1,000,000 prize waiting for you at the <a href="http://www.randi.org/research/index.html">JREF</a>. But I know you can't so spare us the bull.
But hey, you can always win the $1,000,000 with Lifewave patches! Since David Schmidt has declined it, the door is wide open for you. A simple test protocol, agreed to by both you and the JREF, will easily prove you are right and I am wrong. So what do you say Sarge? Are you up to it? Or are you scared they won't work when put to a real test? |

Sarge, I wouldn't use the word complex for your explanations. Nonsense is more like it. And since you can't even read the simple instructions posted on <a href="http://www.randi.org">randi.org</a>, I'm not surprised.
The test protocol will have to discussed between you and Randi's representitive, Kramer. You'll just tell them what the patches can do and how you intend to prove it. The tests will be performed by you in front of a third party. Randi does not participate. Don't worry about them trying to weasle out of paying if you pass. The JREF prize and your application are widely publicized so you will have excellent grounds for a lawsuit if they don't pay.
If you can somehow mangage it, apply for the prize and show the world you know better. Have a good time with the $1,000,000! |

I saw my first set of patches.
Someone brought them into the gym that I own probably trying to sign me up as a distributor.
I have a question?
Everything today is all about BRANDING is it not?
Why can't Lifewave put their name and logo on the back of the peel off strips the same as just about every other company that sells a peel off product?
The reason is that these things are 2 cent junk items bought in bulk from china and sold in asia as miracle items for years and years...
As far as the strength increase claims go I can get an extra 5 reps out of someone just by putting a ACDC song on the stereo... The mind is a powerful, but gullible thing! |

Here's a legitimate question.
Every scientist who makes an amazing discovery has a "Eureka" moment.
When did David Schmidt have his "Eureka" moment with the energy patch?
When was it? Where was he when it happened? What line of research was he working on, and for whom, when his stunning moment of realization occurred?
You do remember don't you Mr. Schmidt? It was a pretty important moment after all wasn't it?
And, no Nanoman, even though we've been over this ground before, I'm nobody but myself. I wish I had half the patience of WWSN1. How he puts up with the constant, mind numbing repetitive drivel that exudes from folks such as yourself is beyond me!
Is it all about LifeWave rushing towards the edge of a cliff?

Interesting point jwb671. Now that you mention it, the patches pictured on James Randi's commentary did not have a logo either.
My first thought is adding a name and logo would cut into the profits. But the most important reason could be when the scam is revealed and thousands of people are demanding refunds, Lifewave can claim they all have counterfeit patches and refuse to pay. Mr Schmidt has thought of everything. |

Captain Al,
I did a little reasearch before taking up your offer. This is what I found:
1) A quote by Captain Al "Y...o...u a...c...t...u...a...l...l...y y...a...l...k...e...d t...o Randi? You are my hero! Can I touch you?"
I'm a little weirded out by this.
2) I visited the JREF site and I was hit by more pops, spware, and adaware than I could ever imagine. I'm a little reluctant with the whole site. The site may be doing what Bob at WWSN is doing - "using software to harvest email addresses of anyone visiting his site and then selling the email addresses to spammers."
3) The JREF site appears to be based on activity concerning psychic, supernatural or paranormal claims. Lifewave patches do not fit this criteria.
4) All applicants must clearly identify themselves properly before any discussion takes place. I am not comfortable with someone with a similar reputation as Bob Burtis smearing my name around the mud just because we couldn't agree on testing protocol etc.
5) Furthermore, I do not have the time to participate in this as I am a University Professor in Biochemistry. I will let you know the results of my own lifewave study once I have it completed. I know it is not indpendent as I am a Lifewave distributor but I can assure you that I will not be involved in the testing and it will be a double blind placebo study with 50+ subjects. |

Apparently Sgt Slaughter doesn't know how much $1 million is. I'm comfortable navigating a site that has pop ups for $1 million. I went to the randi site and didn't have any problems.
I would be glad to let my name out for $1 million. How are they going to write the check out to me if they don't know my name.
"Furthermore, I do not have the time to participate in this as I am a University Professor in Biochemistry.":
Apparently Sgt Slaughter makes more than $1 million dollars a year from this University since his time is so valuable.
Suggestion: Take a few weeks off from the Lifewave distribution job and proceed with the $1 million challenge. Unless you make more than $1 million as a Lifewave distributor in a couple of weeks. |

This old news item was out some time ago.
After watching your presentation and reading subsequent information about the usage of LIFEWAVE, I find nothing in the usage of this product that would violate any rules of the Georgia High School Association. The non-invasive nature of these patches alleviates many of the concerns that accompany the use of supplements.
Dr. Ralph Swearngin,
GHSA Executive Director
It is a classic example of how MLM spin works.
Having approached Dr. Swearngin (and we take their word that they did) he makes a statement that he doesn't see any harm in people using the patches if they choose, especially as nothing enters the body. (Here, the good Dr. takes the word of the company, their "report" etc.)
In a magical process of bio-transformation the statement now becomes an endorsement for the product. It's only happened twice you know, so it must be an amazing product.
When the good Dr. issues his cease and desist order, just like Troy University, Morehouse College, NASA, etc. etc. will you still proudly boast the "endorsement"?
Is it all about clutching at straws?

Being a university professor must really pay well. And I was so looking forward to this. Maybe Randi needs to increase the prize money.
So Sgt Weasel, too bad your university, whatever it is, probably won't let you use their name. Don't blame them. They probably don't want their name associated with something that has as bad a reputation as Lifewave. |

Sarge, you have just lost any credibility you ever wished anyone to think you had. I have been going to randi.org at least once a week for several years now and I NEVER encountered a single pop-up or piece of spyware or adware. That's NEVER, as in NOT ONE TIME EVER.
Resorting to a pathetic lie like that reveals you to be a knowing fraud. You couldn't think of a good, rational excuse for refusing to take the Million Dollar Challenge, so you made up a lie.
I'm sure that at least SOME of the True Believers really think that the LifeWave patches do something medical, but I'm now quite sure YOU do not. Squirm, little man, squirm. |

The Captain is correct. I am the person who sent Randi the very patches you saw on his site and I can absolutely say that they had no visible markings on them.
I only wish there was some sort of Google search where you could input a photo of something and get search results based on it. I'd love to see who actually manufactures the patches and what the wholesale cost is (also what, if anything, they claim the patches can do). |

I'll bet they care when it comes out that you were part of a scam which bilked people out of millions of dollars. Universities tend to not appreciate their employees being involved in things which make them look bad in the public eye.
Gee, could THAT possibly be the reason you won't say which university you work for? |

My "waver" came back to my gym today and I gave him back his patches.
I also gave him a printout of the NASA doctor's written statement denouncing Lifewave and he refused to believe it was true.
I said i'd believe the hype when there is a "published" peer reviewed study in a "credible" journal (even a lowly sports science journal now that lifewave is a "sports performance company").
I have a feeling i'll be waiting a while... |

It's all in the description and the wording:
James J Bulger is an avid reader with an interest in history. He maintains his fitness by walking on beaches. Mr. bulger loves animals and may be found at animal shelters. He has traveled extensively throughout the United States, Europe, Canada and Mexico.
So what, you ask. Are these the details of a new distributor?
No, actually Mr. Bulger can be found here at the FBI's Top 10 list.
http://www.fbi.gov/mostwant/topten/fugitives/bulger.htm
One minute Dr. Ralph Swearngin, GHSA Executive Director is innocently replying to an inquiry about LifeWave patches and the next minute he's a full blown endorser of the product.
It's all in the words and the context. Advertisers use a bag full of tricks like this every day. Is it illegal? Probably not. Is it ethical, of course not. But when did lack of ethics bother LifeWave?
Is it all about making money while you can?

I'm still puzzled by Sgt. Slaughter's sudden withdrawl from the JREF $1,000,000 Paranormal Challenge. His excuses seem rather lame:
"I do not have the time to participate in this..."
I would have thought, as a university professor, this type of thing would be right up his alley.
"I am not comfortable with someone with a similar reputation as Bob Burtis smearing my name around"
According to one of the Lifewavers, only about 7 people visit this site. So what's the harm if 7 people see your name smeared if you walk away with a million dollars?
"Yes I do know how much a million dollars is. I actually already have earned more than this in my lifetime."
Let's see, to earn $1,000,000 over a person's working lifetime of say, 40 years comes to $25,000 per year. Sarge, if you're only making that much, you really need this prize.
"I will send my study in once it is complete"
If you have time to do your own study for nothing, how can you not have time to do one for a $1,000,000? Why not combine your study with the JREF Paranormal Challenge?
On a differnent topic:
" I am a University Professor in Biochemistry"
Would it be too cynical to suggest you have tried to sell Lifewave patches to your students? What do they have to say about their professor selling something that goes against the laws of physics he supposedly teaches? |

After seeing other family members fall for this scam, I did a search for lifewave scams. I dont believe that this product works for a minute, but this is one of the only websites I have found that tries to shed light on this ripoff. When I try to convince my loved ones about this they say, "Hey its only one website with just a few guy who are jealous". I think there are some very unethical people out there that prey on whoever they can. I need more ammo to save my siblings. HELP!!
ITs very frustrating reading here. THere are those that answer with logic, and those who answer with non answers. If you really believe in this product, then what facts can you provide? I just want to slap some sense in you believers. I had a neighbor who bought from one of my siblings and tried to sell me. She wanted to hear nothing of what I have learned here. Its all about the money. Shitty thing is guys like Schmit will do this over and over with the blessings of our lame ass corrupt scumbag politicans. |

Get ready for the "believers" to say you are the same person as me!

Rolan,
If you want more ammo to convince your siblings be sure to read all 42 pages of this thread. Then check out the entries in James Randi's commentaries:
<a href="http://www.randi.org/jr/050605free.html#3">Randi commentary 1</a>
<a href="http://www.randi.org/jr/061005smug.html#11">Randi commentary 2</a>
<a href="http://www.randi.org/jr/052705a.html#5">Randi commentary 3</a>
Then go to <a href="http://www.worldwidescam.com/">Worldwidescam.com</a> where you'll find lots of good stuff.
It's true there are many more web sites that argue in favor of Lifewave but that is because they are all carbon copies of the same thing. When Lifewave signs up a new distributor, they get their own mirror site and the rights to use all the same promotional material.
You will not find any serious university sites that have done real tests on Lifewave patches because they don't have time to waste on junk science. There's too much legitimate research to be done. |

Beleiver is such a fitting word for the lifewavers.Yes, I read all 42 pages before posting. Can one of you believers tell me what the shelf life of the patches are? If you store them above 98.6 degrees, will they go bad in 12 hours? If not, why dont they last forever? exactly what makes them wear out? |

Cool song, there Bob. Much better than the one Dr. Norm Burba's girl sang In Las Vegas. And she wanted to charge $4.00 for it.
Look fo my email tomorrow. |

First time visitors and those curious about LifeWave Energy Patches.
Bob WWSN1 is providing some much needed light relief.
Please check out previous pages of this forum to catch up on the debate about this scam company selling grossly overpriced placebo patches.
As one of the skepics, I have no invested interest in the collapse of this company. I have already stated that if David Schmidt was to advertise the LifeWave Placebo Energy Patch I would not have a problem.
Enjoy your perusal.
I'm still waiting for answers to my previously posted questions but I guess the deafening silence is the only anwer I'll be getting.
Is it all about grossly overpriced glucose and glycerin placebo patches?

Nolan,
Don't bother trying to get any information from the Lifewave believers. They don't have a clue how they work, where they are made or what's in them. Even our self-proclaimed biochemist friend doesn't know and he's in a profession that investigates how substances behave when mixed together. They only care about how much money they can make from it.

Captain Al,
Of course we know at least one person who knows full well what's in the patches. He had to tell MVA, the testing company, in 2004 when they tested the patches to confirm they were non-transdermal.
Brown (glucose) and white (glycerin) is what he told the company. Either Schmidt told them the truth, or he told them a lie. If he lied, the test results are worthless and Schmidt does not have proof that the patches are non-transdermal.
If he told them the truth, then we know from the owner's own mouth that the patches contain glucose and glycerin.
Is it all about grossly overpriced glucose and glycerin placebo patches?
