Catholic Church as The Matrix
image A Matrix-style poster depicting a Catholic priest as Neo isn't a spoof. The Catholic Church really is distributing these things. It's part of their new recruitment campaign:

The poster's creator, the Rev. Jonathan Meyer, 28, associate director of youth ministries for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis, says pop culture is the key to attracting young men to an occupation that has gotten bad press.
"If we can get high-school youth to hang a picture of a priest in their room, that's huge in helping young men to answer the call to the priesthood," the cleric said. "Anyone who is a 'Matrix' guru looks at the picture and automatically gets it."
Crucifix in hand, Father Meyer posed for the poster, rated R for "restricted to those radically in love with Jesus Christ." Running time is "all eternity," and its title reads, "The Catholic priesthood: The answer is out there ... and it's calling you."

I'm wondering how far the Neo as Catholic priest analogy can be extended. In the second Matrix movie, Neo has sex with Trinity. So how are we supposed to interpret that? In one sense it seems appropriate (priests are dedicating themselves to God, or the Holy Trinity), but in another way it doesn't seem to be the message the Church intended. More from the Hoax Museum Archives:
The problem Cranky is, that in the 80's, when this the current Pope, Pope Benedict, came up with this "cover-up" idea he was not a Pope. He was simply another clergyman. Now yes, I have already said that the Catholic Church DID cover-up these sexual abuse cases and I agree with you, and I am Catholic. I have no problem admitting that, as a Catholic, my Church did NOT handle this situation very well at all.And I CAN see what you mean when you said that his actions in the past are leading you to doubt whether or not what he is saying is trustworthy. But I feel I must point out that in the Bible it says that Christ's Church will suffer from human frailities. Thus events do occur where the best option is not always taken and that is unfortunate but inevitable at the same time. The ONLY time the Catholic Church claims to be infallible is when the Pope guided by the Holy Spirit announces a new doctrine. ALL OTHER TIMES when the Pope says things they are not infallible. He simply tries to decide what is the best action to take in a certain scenario, as well as his clergy. I understand it is hard to know in your case, as well as many other peoples cases if Pope Benedict is telling the truth but come on. Give the man a chance, will ya?

I saw an internet site entitled "Cranky Media Guy" and I noticed he wrote articles with the same type of writing style, I guess you could say, that I noticed you wrote with. That's all- but is that your site?

FOUND THIS "I've arranged for a guest blogger while Flora and I are gone. It's someone quite familiar to many people here -- none other than Cranky Media Guy (aka Bob Pagani). He has perfect credentials for the position. He's a media hoaxer, radio personality, warden of the Abu Ghraib Fantasy Prison Camp, and winner of the $365M Powerball Lottery. He'll be blogging from up north in Oregon." I'm Italian too Cranky I guess we have one thing in common. My dad was vice-president of Chrysler for 26 years but he didn't make 365 million dollars- he made like somewhere around 60 million dollars total so you have A LOT more money than I do but we're both rich so that's two things in common. We both live up north, that's three.I don't like the radio talk-shows though, and I don't know what the hell an "Abu Ghraib Fantasy Prison Camp" is- doesn't sound to fun though. Sorry I'm bored and didn't know what to talk about. Can't talk to KAOS 'cause she's (yeah KAOS is a girl)INSANE and I don't know what she's even talking about. Just you ,Cranky, you're the only sane person in here, and you're opinionated so now I guess we have 4 things in common. So I think I answered my own question those are about you on the internet. Talk to you soon.

SCRATCH THAT PEOPLE- Mr.Pagani Never won the lottery. WE only have three things in common now...liar.
Posted by J.R.  on  Mon Apr 28, 2008  at  12:18 PM
I've got to tell you Mr. Pagani it's not that hatrd to find out stuff about you. You're all over the internet. You got fired for the "Headless Herald" incident, faked winning the lottery supposedly for publicity reasons, have been in the radio peronality business, are "not intimidated by bullies" and seem to be very confident when it comes to standing up for yourself. Impressive.

Oh and I agree with you when you say that for 30 or 40 years there was a cover-up of these sexual abuse cases so no argument from me there- The only thing we have a disagreement on is whether or not all that is changing with our current Pope-P.S.- It is changing.

Found this about you Crank actaully a really good article: http://www.mediaman.com.au/interviews/pagani.html
Posted by J.R.  on  Mon Apr 28, 2008  at  04:35 PM
Yeah, J.R., that's a pretty good interview with me, I think.

Here's a little secret: Greg Tingle, who interviewed me, forgot to put a link to Part Three of the interview on his site. Just change the "2" in the address bar of the second part to a "3" to read it.

I share your hope that the current Pope will be different from his predecessors and make REAL change in the Catholic Church. No child deserves to be sexually abused by an authority figure.

Hey, remember when I said that, to be consistent, the New York diocese shouldn't allow Rudy Giuliani to receive Holy Communion because he has a history of being pro-choice? Remember how someone got mad at me and stomped off?

Check this out:

Thanks for the tip on part three of the interview and in reply to the communion ?scandal?- I feel the best way to sum up how I feel as a Catholic knowing Giuliani recieved communion when he was not supposed to by saying this: God is PISSED OFF. But in the Catholic Church's defense in the article you provided it said that the Catholic Church was , angry, one could say that he did recieve communion "The cardinal said Monday that Giuliani broke that understanding when he received the Eucharist during Pope Benedict XVI's visit earlier this month" and "Egan says he will be seeking a meeting with Giuliani "to insist that he abide by our understanding."" and finally "Egan's criticism of Giuliani, however, is a rare case of a Catholic bishop criticizing a public figure by name. Most bishops who spoke about Communion and the responsibility of Catholic politicians did so in general terms without naming names." So the Catholic Diocese in New York wasn't necessarily being inconsistent as they are PISSED OFF just as much as I am that he recieved the Eucharist and was not supposed to. Whoever stomped off because of this argument you are the stupidest dumb sh*t ever.

P.S.- Did you really have an incident with the FBI and now you can't vote? Did you or am I just an extremely gullible retard?
Posted by J.R.  on  Tue Apr 29, 2008  at  05:34 AM
Yes, I had an "incident" with the FBI but I am legally entitled to vote in all local and national elections. My life is many things, but it isn't dull.
Posted by Cranky Media Guy  on  Tue Apr 29, 2008  at  05:35 PM
cmg said: "My life is many things, but it isn't dull"... hmmm, I've been ruminating on that life-defining statement, and come up with my own version: I too, have a life that is many things, but IS dull, painfully, uncomfortably, dull. Now, that assessment is based upon one's response to the stimulus of "many things", I would suppose, one's reaction to a life of many things being somewhat different than another's based on their ability to be stimulated by said stimulation. Personally, with all my myriad trials, tribulations and travails, there is only one thing left in life that I find stimulating, to the point of obsessive distraction. Here it is: I love to boogie, I love the nightlife, I'm on the disco prowl. Wake me up before you go-go, I ain't planning on going solo. Gimme that stuff, that sweet funky stuff. Oh, JR, I consulted the Magic 8-ball as to whether or not you indeed are an extremely gullible retard, as you fear you may be. It says: JR is very special, he deserves his own bus. Really, I wouldn't lie.
Posted by Hairy Houdini  on  Tue Apr 29, 2008  at  06:27 PM
okay, I wanna clarify my previous post: I did not mean to suggest that J.R. was "an extremely gullible retard" as he said he fears he might be, I just figured if I gave him a test, and he believed that the Magic 8-ball said he was special and deserves his own bus, then he would in theory indeed be gullible. The degree of his gullibilty and extent of his retardedness would be based on other's opinions, who gleaned such from his response, if any, to the Magic 8-ball's contention. My opinion on the subject is irrelevant, and I'm sorry if my post offended any other extremely gullible retards besides J.R.. Glad we got that straight.
Posted by Hairy Houdini  on  Tue Apr 29, 2008  at  06:46 PM
oh, and CMG? I didn't mean to suggest that you are easily stimulated and satisfied in any way, once again the degree to which one responds to stimuli being based upon individual perception. I would suggest, however, that you clear up that trouble with the FBI, change your name to Irving, and get a fishing license. Just a thought
Posted by Hairy Houdini  on  Tue Apr 29, 2008  at  06:49 PM
I'm sorry, I meant Melvin, not Irving. Brain fart

Oh and Cranky question for you-I think it's safe to say we all know Catholic priests,as well as many other religious leaders in other beliefs systems have had a large "sex abuse"problem. Now that I've shown you those sites and proof that the current Pope is going about to try and stop these sexual abuse dilemmas occuring that make the Catholic Church look REALLY bad to outsiders (non-Catholics)what are you trying to prove with all of these sites you keep giving us here?Thanks-...Bob.By the way your Cranky Media Guy site is pretty damn good, just so you know.
