Life With Skippy

image From the Hoax Forum: Ever heard of Life With Skippy? It was an American television show that aired briefly in 1969 that featured "the misadventures of two small-town boys, the trouble-making Skippy and his sidekick Gummy." Unfortunately it got cancelled after only six episodes. Still don't remember it? Well, if you look around the internet you can find a surprising number of references to this hard-to-remember show. It's mentioned on message boards, there's a Yahoo Group devoted to its young star (who was later found dead in a brothel), there's a Life With Skippy website, and a website maintained by the actor Adam Felber who played Gummy. Plus, you can buy the hat worn by Skippy on eBay. Well, if you still can't remember the show the reason is that it never existed. It's the creation of a New York-based production company, Metropolis Entertainment, who are trying to promote a new sitcom they've developed called Life After Skippy, which is about the career of a down-on-his-luck former child actor (who once supposedly worked on Life With Skippy). Quite an elaborate guerrilla marketing campaign they've put together for this. You can view clips from the real show, Life After Skippy, on their site. Some of them are pretty funny.

Is anyone else getting sick of these so called 'viral' marketing campaigns? Why is it that that I think that they are not viral becaus of the way they 'spread', but in viral in the way that we really need some sort of cure.

There was a show in Australia called Skippy (the bush kangeroo) - it sounds pretty similiar. Two country kids and their pet kangeroo, Skippy. Thats why when I read this I thought it was a bit odd. An old show, well known in Australia but probably less so in the US, LOL.

How come I immediately thought about peanut butter after reading this?

Buddy Wilson may not have been the most talented actor ever. Sure Buddy made some bad choices in his life. Perhaps he had a drug problem. Sure, he probably wasted his talent. Maybe he wasn't the finest human being ever to walk the earth. However....he was a human being. And as a human being, he deserves a certain degree of love and respect from the rest of us.

I find it disgusting that one of god's children could stoop to the level of disgracing the memory of the dead.

Boy, am I mad!

Although I am not sure if Life With Skippy is real or not, I have seen footage of Life After Skippy. It's some pretty amazing stuff. And very funny

Okay, Bob, Ben, and Mervin. Don't forget that I can see your IP addresses when you post. So you are all either one and the same person, or you're all using the same computer.

Now I sm confused. There is an actor named Adam Felber and Im pretty sure that that is him in the interviews and footage. He has a show on NPR called Wait Wait Dont Tell Me and a show on Comedy Central. However the resume page on AdamFelber.com lists none of that. I have no idea if he was I child star.

Suzzie, I think it's all the same guy. Here's his weblog:
http://felbers.net/mt/

So I guess he's using his own name on Life After Skippy. But they've created a weird alternative biography for the sitcom version of him.

the sitcom itself will probably last only six episodes. That would be ironic or maybe life imitating "art".... Anyone else feel that there is just too much stuff on the web and none of it interests you any more?

I just got an e-mail from this guy claiming that he is a big supporter of John Kerry and that celebrities like him should all support Kerry, blah blah blah. But knowing that this is all a big promo/hoax I think the Kerry supporters should take a good hard look at this freak. He's only adding to the confusion and controversey on the Demoacratic side of the ticket. On second thought, maybe that's not so bad... I just wanna know how he got my e-mail address.
