An email has been going around urging people to sign
this petition:
To: George Bush
Some people are signing against anime and are calling is to be a "perverse, evil, insiduous form of animation from the dark land of Japan, and is corrupting America's youth at unprecedented rates." Anime is NOT corrupting the youth of America, and since when has America become a country of Christians? Isn't there a SEPARATION of Church and State? Isn't this a ban on our Freedom of Speech? And Freedom of Press? What does anime have to do with brainwashing our youth?
Even though I'm not sure what 'signing against anime' is supposed to mean, I do know that there is no movement underfoot by any politician to ban anime. But it's worth scrolling through the messages left by the 4129 people who signed the petition. Some of them are quite amusing.

Honestly, they have no rights. . .
If some of you would study on how the American Government works, you would realize that this all got started by a letter from an angry parent that caught their kid watching some anime that had nudity in it or some such thing.
Also, every show has merit, despite the fact it may offend some. Take South Park for example. Highly offensive and full of uncouth language, and the characters make fun of many subjects. That's where the key is. The creators have the balls to make fun of extremely serious subjects, which is why so many watch.
And sara hazuda, thank you for bringing up the point of Harry Potter. Do you know how many parents have off off about it? "She's a witch""She's trying to make our children into devil worshippers", so on and so forth. That's the argument.
However, once they've sat down and actually started reading the books, they change.
People tend to go against things they do not understand, therefore they are ignorant and do not know what they speak of.
If Bush really wanted to push the issue of banning Anime, he'd probably make a statement about it.
As I said before, stop and take the time to study how the govt system works, so that you don't an arse of yourself.
On a side note: I really like the fact that in Japan you can fall in love with whomever you want to, and still be married. Whether it be the same sex, a cousin, someone older.....I admire Japan for that. ^-^
Anime can't be banned nation-wide by a petition!
Anime brings in too much money to be banned, it'd be like a ban on smoking and porn, so many addicts can't get enough of it SO, they shell out money for it. Anime would have to become an industy of child porn or something to get banned nation-wide, and even then, people can and will find other ways of getting anime. Plus, there'd be too much protest against the ban, so the ban wouldn't last very long. And, if they were going to ban anime because they think it's messing our youth up, then television, the Internet, radio, music, video/computer games, porn, and even books should be banned as they have content that is not for children as well. But if you do that then you have banned a lot of forms of lesiure, that is liked by many people. But all these bans are UNCONSTITUTIONAL and would never, ever happen! Because as long as people enjoy something, it's here to stay. And to those who love Japan because of anime, please quit being fanboy/fangirls! Anime is great, I deeply enjoy it, but really Japan isn't all anime! You might want to actually read a history textbook instead of a manga! Quit naming a bunch of anime like your so all-knowing about Japan and it's culture!
Mainly that 10 year old, listing a bunch of anime and a lot of stupid ones at that!
You learn so much from anime then you have to research the culture to understand. This petition means nothing! So quit overreacting over a joke, and think with a full deck!
Quit whining, showing Bush that you're weak.
If you really think anime will get banned then do something to show that you care about what you are standing up for! And since anime can't be banned anyway, your efforts may result in more anime titles in the US. So actually do something instead of just talking about it online!
Seriously you can't just ban Anime because some of them contain "unsuitable" themes. Some animes are even ment for kids, and they love it!
I swear that stupid person should just mind his/her buisness... Besides, if he/she really hates Anime this much, why bother taking the time? Would it be "Not worth my time" As many say?
nootch
People started the petition because they're stupid. Not only is there not a ban in the works, but online petitions have zero impact on policy. Nobody takes online petitions seriously because they are staggeringly easy to fake.
Another hentai means metamorphisis(Insect)
take away anime, take away cartoons.
take away manga, take away comic books.
thats how i see it. an eye for an eye.
ANIME FOREVER!!!!!>_<
kind of disagree with this statment "since when has America become a country of Christians?" most of are four fathers were or belived in there principles so that was kind of a dumb statement.
I'll keep short and sweet, and sad to a point.
1: Online petitions appear to be a waste of time and space, but alas. It's the internet. Free is free, and passing time is passing time.
2: That petition was pretty funny. But sadly, sometimes I wish to agree with that logic. (Although by no means in an extreme 'Right Wing' sort of way.) In my time of increasing depression over the loss of anime to the hungry and cruel American business market, I find myself wishing for the old days when only a handful of people knew what Japanese animation actually was, and there was no "Japanophiling" going on. It's gotten to the point of being rather ridiculous now a days.
Well, that's all I have to say for now, but I'll probably be back.
A die-hard anime fan willing to go to jail for it,

p.s. o in the petition you DID mention Love Hina...just lettin you know
Dear Mr. Fuller,
I've come to the conclusion that you have helped write this petition. After reading it, there are many things incorrect with it.
1. Ah! My Goddess and Love Hina are not meant for children. The DVD cases blatantly state "For Ages 16+" or "For Ages 17+". Use common sense, please.
2. In Ah! My Goddess, the goddess Belldandy is NOT under 18 years of age. She is probably much older, because she is a goddess. Again, common sense.
3. You don't state which George Bush the petition is to go to. Do some research next time.
4. The "Responsible Americans Against Child Exploitation" is not a real organization. Google and Wikipedia, high traffic ranked web sites on the internet, came up with nothing. Compared to your fake organization, you'd at least get my self-created web site for my cosplay group, the Neko Mercenaries Group Indignation.
5. What the hell? Your email address has "neko", the Japanese word for "cat", in it, and yet you wrote a petition against anime? You're a fluke!
6. "As a resonsible Christian, I demand to see this garbage removed from our nation. Please sign this petition and send it to George Bush, your Congressman, and the makers/distributors of anime filth and depravity. "
WHOA WHOA WHOA! You're a Christian (Maybe you aren't, but you helped write the petition, you're getting a flame and a half.), and yet you think George Bush (Which one again? That wasn't stated.) will listen to you? Hey, here's something you should research: Separation of Church and State. It's part of the United States Constitution. I don't think you're going to win this. Oh, and use a spell checker. It's spelled "responsible".
All in all, you have lost this, and a petition was created just now (7:23 PM, January 15, 2007) to petition your petition.
Sincerely,
-Seph-kun
Get a fucking life, and get over it. If you don't want anime in your house, then buy tivo or whatever to block it. But I can tell you now, you will never be able to block anime, you block anime you block all cartoons, and everything from cartoons, to the oprah bitch that you watch for 3 hours a day. Have fun watching a black blank screen you fuckers!
Furthermore, you would have media companies that would also rally to fight against such a ban if it were to occur since many do earn money producing and localizing anime for the American market. And, even companies that do not produce anime could see the precedent that such a ban could entail and would also fight against such a ban. Plus, there would be civil rights organizations such as the ACLU that would rally against a ban. And, this is on top of regular people who enjoy anime who may also act to see that such a ban be rejected.
In all, a call for such a ban would have to be a hoax or from a harebrained moron who wants to dictate to others what is acceptable and what is not. - Reinhart
who has a japanese word for their email and then calls the japanese filthy?
If the president hates Japanese that does not make him a good Christian either...... Because to hate someone means to 'kill' them..... And as Christians, we do not hate because we are God's precious children......
Imagine I've met some of my Christian friends that even said that hentai anime is no different since in general some of them seem 'equivalent' to 'Hollywood' adult themed films......
Just that some young American generation lack decency these days.... Because of the deep influence of pop culture of them...... particularly Hollywood in general, some teen dramas with all the cultural stereotypes, how young celebrities dress that some young people tried to follow...... Just to conclude it is hard these days to define what is decent and right in terms of media these days..... well, anime is part of media tat was why...... Ciao~~~~
1. Most Christians aren't like the nonsensical authors of that so-called petition.
2. Those flaming the petition authors are using a equally as nonsensical logic as the petition authors themselves.
3. Please do not try to sound like you're intelligent and then claim there is a Separation of Church & State when there is none. Read the Constitution.
Though I disagree with the authors of this petition, I am both an Evangelical Christian and an avid Anime fan. I believe that there should always be intellectual debates on controversial subjects. But once you start coming off as being as equally moronic as those whom you're trying to debate it ceases being a debate and becomes a hissing match. Which in the end gets us nowhere.
Btw, do not worry about a banning of Anime in the United States, since it violates no obscenity laws, Anime is considered protected speech. You're more likely to see a ban on softcore pornography before Anime, and we all know its highly unlikely that that would happen in our lifetime.
One) stop with the name calling. It's stupid and wastes time.
Two) Never ever ever accuse anyone of being either open or closed minded. You don't know anything about any of the other people here, so it makes you look like an ass.
Three)Before you start calling someone else an idiot, make sure you check your post for errors. Atleast then, they can't call you a hypocritical idiot.
Four)BUSH CANNOT BAN ANIME!!!!! I have said this before. Study the american government people!!!
There is one section of congress that deals entirely with the media. Japan is one of our biggest trading countries. Do you really think we're stupid enough to really fuck ourselves over that much?
The only thing Bush can do is suggest that the more graphic shows and movies be shown at a time when it would be least likely for a bunch of little kids to be watching.
That's all for now and have a nice day.
About my mindset, did you come to that conclusion because I criticized the logic behind your previous posts? Or, is it that you are one whose logic comes from those who are prejudicial toward all who hold to a faith in the supernatural?
