Aveda, whose parent company is Estee Lauder, is accepting any and all hard plastic caps from March 10 through May 10. Caps from water or soda bottles, laundry detergent, shampoo, etc. end up in the ocean and landfills because they are not recycled with plastic bottles. Visit the Aveda Website or an Aveda store and get the information. |

I came here because my Mum has asked me to start saving bottle tops. She'd been asked by my sister, on behalf of my nephew, because someone at his school needs a wheelchair. Sound familiar?
I had a feeling that I'd heard about this hoax so I came here to check.
Thanks for the info - very useful. I'll send a message back to my sister and get the facts checked. If they're not doing it via Linda's company in Portsmouth then it's a silly and simple hoax. The wheelchair part makes me 99% sure that's the case.
But you know what? I might end up saving them anyway. Why? Because my sister is likely to react like some people here, judging me as a cruel old with who doesn't want to help poor crippled babies. Sigh. |

I've been running the bottle top recycling scheme for GHS Recycling for almost 2 years now and I must get at least one phone call a month from people telling me they have been saving for a wheelchair! I did hear from one lady in North Wales who assured me that she knew someone who had had a wheelchair but she is the only one. |

Hi what a great site. My misses just told me a friend at work is collecting bottle tops for a lad. If he gets his weight he gets a wheel chair. So I asked on several freecycle sites ans had load of replies so many people got loads for me to give already. Now is this a scam or will it be real and a lad get a chair. I am after finding this going to ask who they are given to and who supplies the chair. If I get a reply ill post it on here. Bet it a scam after reading this. |

As a teacher i know that lots of unfunded schools are looking for creative ideas for kids projects. If you donated them to a kindergarden class im sure they would find something interesting to make. I had my husband drill a hole in each cap and then we turned them into the tops of xmas decroations. Remember the 3 R's people. It might be a hoax, but lets not just toss the caps out. |

Hi Having read most of the various coments regarding collecting milk bottle tops I can confirm GHS Recycling is still processing milk bottle tops. Comments regarding quantity are true GHS are able to make this work mainly due to a number of dedicated collectors who organise other collectors and put their small amounts together to make up to 100 Kg and more. GHS then, while doing other 'paid' work, collect the larger quantities making the transport economical. We also have an arangment with Save a Cup who collect vending machine cups and we help each other out with collections. We also have envelopes, and parcels of MBT's delivered daily. All this put together can bring in up to tonne a week and more. We have a part time worker granulating the material so can be sold on and reused as product. If we and the collectors did not do this, the material would end up in landfill and having collected from a major dairy in Portsmouth that would be a multipile of tonnes per week. At present we are only skiming the surface of what is going to landfill. Transport or postage is the major problem. I would like to start a scheme simular to that in America where a major national company that delivers to its stores would bring back the small quantities back to a central point that we could collect from. This would make it totaly economic and generate much larger donations for the charities. Anyone who can help in pushing this idea forward check our web site and contact me, I have the vision, but not the time :-(. I would like to thank all the collectors who have sent material to us for their efforts and assure them that the charities they have nominated have benefited. |

Through various fundraising activities including recycling plastic milk bottle tops enough money was raised for Becky's speech synthesiser. We are now recycling plastic milk bottle tops for a local charity who provide playschemes for special needs children. We use GHS Recycling in Portsmouth - they will pass your contact details on to us if you would like to support our fundraising. |

Recycling is a farce....if they wanted the world cleaned up they would allow all plastics everywhere to be recycled....this is a world of liars and thieves....the only ones who make money are local Fed and state gov......and they are actually stealing from us ......telling us we don't no where or how to recycle all these products...that is a lie......all the way........In the back room they are lining their pockets with our monies..........What a sham!!! |

If you still have any milk bottles and don't know what to do with them then the following address collects them. These will then go towards making hard plastic toys for children, such as slides and other garden toys. They also to to make more bottle tops. Address is: G.H.S. Recycling Ltd, Unit 32, Ackworth Road, Shawcross Ind Park, Hilsea, Portsmouth PO3 5JP. Hope this helps. |

Hi we are collecting plastic milk bottle tops to recycle through GHS Recycling at Portsmouth in aid of the Springboard Project which organises playschemes for children with special needs- if there is a way of getting the milk bottle tops to GHS in Portsmouth (if you contact GHS directly they will know of any local collection points) and if you are happy to support our collection you can ask for the proceeds to be donated to the Springboard Collection. Hope this helps and thanks for considering our appeal. |

Hi, I've been collecting bottle tops for about 6 months now. My friends give theirs to me as well. I have loads. I just want to know where to put them now. I did know but have no memory now. I did write it down but don't know where that is now. Never told noone. Didn't see much point at the time. Who loses their memory. Never heard of that one before. Thought I'd had enough. I,ve got MS. |
