*The question is what happens next? If I send them a copy of my ID and the verification card do i risk?? Is it a hoax? They didn't tell me to send them cash so it's not that obvious for me whether this is a hoax or not. If i'll send them a copy of my ID and this VC i won't lose any money...unless anyone knows what happens next?? |

Piotr, I somehow doubt that you'd get any money out of this, and the last thing you should do is reply to them, let alone send them a copy of your ID.
Did you ever wonder how you entered this lottery in the first place? |

Smerk, well i actually i'm sure i haven't entered any lotteries. From what i've read here i'm sure this is a scam and i guess i won't get money out of this, but still i'm curious in what way would they want to get money from me. And what would have happend if i sent them the copy of my ID? |

I think I know how I started receiving all this trash:
I started an online business selling health products. To commercialize I decided to try what many online businessers do: get ezines going to advertise your business. For that, I get bulk emails from many companies as well as many companies and people get emails from my company. These are just advetisings.
One of the emails I got, advertised http://www.freelotto.com. I had played that a couple of times when I was a teenager, though won nothing. But this email said that if I subscribed I would enter a drawing to receive a certain number of prizes they were giving away. I did subscribe, without any payment's though (they prefer if you do pay $14.99 per month, hahaha)I didn't give any personal info cause I just wanted to check the place out.
Then I started receiving lots of emails saying that I won such and such millions of money, first ones from Amsterdam, and other places. So that's how I started receiving junk mail from them. It seems Freelotto sold my email address to them.
then Freelotto told me I won with them. I looked into it. They're from New York. I do not know if that is a scam either. I researched through the internet and some sites say it's real, others say it's a ripoff. I think that's where I searched, at ripoff.com but google helped me most. My answer is a little inconclusive. If someone could help me. Is Freelotto just as a scam as Amsterdam?
Piotr: Maybe you haven't gotten to the part yet where they ask you to pay a couple hundred euros to do all the legal paperwork to confirm it is you. That is where they rip you off and steal your money. If you send them a bank account, then you're fried. |

OK...that's all by email. But what happens when you actually receive a letter...from SPAIN no less. And upon contacting the number (a spanish number, using a call card) someone with a heavy Spanish accent actually picks up, and confirms that you have won, and details procedures on how to get the money. Processes include going through the national bank, and even detailing the taxes that need to be deducted. He then promises that I will receive the 600,000 euros by next week. Sceptical? Hell ya. But the money would change my life. So should i believe this? Or is it some eleborate hoax? |

I wouldn't believe the Spain hoaxes either. I've heard they're pretty good at doing them there, especially concerning credit cards.
Yes, I wished I could of won for real. I don't trust these anymore.
But you can take your chances.
I'm not willing to get ripped off though. |

I think you have to ask youself, did I enter a lottery in Spain?
It's a scam. No matter how detailed and believable it sounds, if you weren't in Spain and entered a lottery there then there's no possible way for you to have won one. |

You guessed it: they take the money and run.
The lottery scams are orchestrated by Nigerians operating from boiler rooms in Amsterdam suburbs. They don't target Dutch victims, but foreigners who do not know that companies such as Fortune Trust Finance & Securities could never be housed at Burdenstreet or Alfonstraat in Amsterdam, addresses mentioned in numerous emails. The phone numbers, however, are real; some will even connect to a satellite phone.
The Dutch fraud squad last year estimated that at least seven Nigerian syndicates - a group of at least a hundred people - are engaged with 419 frauds from Amsterdam; making it one the most important scam hubs of the European continent. Recently five Nigerian men were sentenced for e-mail crimes, including lottery fraud.
Nigerian lottery scams from the Netherlands are on the rise. Several lotteries recently began to put up bogus websites, some of them with pictures of bustling computer rooms or impressive office fronts, claiming to be working for Lee Towers Holdings, after a well-known Dutch Frank Sinatra impersonator, or Johannes Cruyff, the soccer star.
Others will let you believe they are accredited by the Dutch Council for Accreditation, prompting this organisation to issue warnings. Germany-based Waruno Mahdi is keeping an eye on several Dutch and UK scam lottery companies at his website. Even The London Metropolitan Police has issued warnings.
It is unknown how many people fall prey to these scams. The Dutch Council for Accreditation was approached by a Japanese victim who apparently lost |

After that, i call to a real number in england, some guy responds "hi" (yeah right, like if they answer like that in a nonlucrative big corporation), so this guy with a big/horrible english ascent tells me taht im a lucky winner and stars to give me congrats, then i ask how im going to get the price, he respond in a bank account =) jajajaja, or im my house, ok seems right =/, then he tells me that i need to pay a fee for THEY TO COME ( again, this is a million-dollar-nonlucrative-big-corporation asking me, a 19 yearold, bussiness student a FEE) at that point i realize (jajajaja, long time ago) this was a scam, so dont even respond this kind of mail. |

This is incredible. I finally decided to do some searching and came upon this forum. I cannot believe the scams that are coming out of the woodwork. The last one I got told me I won a certain amount of money in this email lottery. For what would appear to be a gov't monitored business, one would think they would have their Pound vs Dollar rates current. Things just don't match up. The phone number I received in their closing does have the right numbers for the UK, but hardly for the London area.
If you figure all the money I've supposedly won in lotteries (always overseas areas) and received from uncles I didn't know I had who were killed in plane and automobile crashes, I should be able to buy Bill Gates and Microsoft. What I cannot believe is with all the scams that have been mentioned online and on investigative television shows, people are still falling for this stuff. |

One added thing. I usually email back and explain how my bank requires bank account numbers from person(s) who will be wiring large amounts of money to my account. That before there can be any such large transfer, the bank must synchronize and expect funds from their account number. In lieu of this, I offer them the option of sending a cashiers check via Registered Mail to a bogus P.O. Box number. I never seem to hear back from the scammer after this. |
