I was searching through these pro-ana sites. I'm in no way suffering from an ED and I choose the term suffer. I was looking because I have had two girlfriends with eating disorders and i care to know what it is girls think they must do to themselves inorder to be accepted. From everything I've read ED people are more judgemental over the people commenting in this whole section.
From what I've seen, these sites are 'sick' (and I'm not saying that i'm perfect cause I'm not) but I have noticed that in researching this plague this disease has almost started to contaminate my thoughts.
Can't you see that your disease will be the end of you?
What annarexic girls strive for is a look uglier than being fat. |

Dear Anamiame,
That was another "Jenny", I have been out for some time but now, back to this forum, I realize that I have trouble undertanding what people are talking about. I will retire now, prepare something to eat ,steak au poivre, with some endive salad with balsamic vinager and olive oil to start. The wine will be a St. Emilion 2000.
I have some reblochon cheese and the dessert will be an orange. I'm alone but I will eat well and light a candel. After my meal, I'll keep the candle and pray for the fat and for the thin that their somatic, self-image and other complexes, go away, and be replaced by sanity, since the world is mad enough having no need for more to be added to it. |

The girls (or even a few boys) who have eating disorders and go to these sites usually have no intention of recovering--in fact, some don't even believe there is a disease to recover from. Anorexia isn't really an eating disorder, it's a mental problem. These people feel that they must be thin, or else. They have a warped sense of reason (they think that fasting often, for days/weeks, and consuming as little as 200 calories a day is a good idea). the web sites only show them that what they're doing is normal, and it isn't. Keeping in shape, dieting, or setting weight loss goals are healthy lifestyle choices. Anorexia IS NOT A LIFESTYLE. |
Adam

You are right Lena. Anorexia IS a mental illness. My sister has suffered from it for many years, and was down to 55 lb at her lowest point, in hospital naturally. Nothing seems to work for her.
The trouble with these sites is that they support each other in their delusions. There are very few of them that do not also have a selection of Bipolar, depression, and personality disorders of various kinds, and sometimes psychosis. Getting all these ill people together is NOT a good idea.
And then having so-called 'moderators' who actively encourage this self-destructive behaviour is simply amoral. They should be legally held responsible if any member gets very sick or (god-forbid) dies. They would be held so in normal life, it's only the anonymity of the internet that protects these so-called 'leaders'.
I don't have anything bad to say about the average member of the sites, my sister is still one. I am however campaigning for action against the creators of the sites, and those who regularly encourage this 'lifestyle of death'.
I have only sympathy for the members, they are ill, and when they come on to justify themselves, it's best to be kind and gently point them to some sites that will help them recover, whilst not judging them.
Peace. |

No , they are not all 'crazy'. I was just trying (in my pathetic way), to just be, well, tolerant I suppose. We all have our own demons.
As for ending the discussion, I think talking is good, generally. I'm all for it. Even ( or maybe especially, with those who disagree with me on stuff.)
People are basically, all the same. We need human contact. And if those sites give them that, then.... ok .... Let them be.
There are good people everywhere. If we bother to look.

We now know that pro ana sites exist. Great! That's this one settled. |

im a girl that has pro-ana. at first i was not sure what the term pro-ana ment but reading people's different opions on the dissorder or perhaps i should say 'life style choice' has made me relize that im not the only on feeling the pressures of life and atking it out on my body.
it started with days of not eating then resulted in binge eating on the things i had been craving for those days.its hard enuff to deal with the other issues teenager have to deal with in everyday life but dealing with my wieght is something i find the most difficult so it has resulted in me not eating, that way i dont have to coint calories when i do eat or worry if i have eaten to much.
i thank the peole who have started this sight for giving people like me, with pro-ana a place to come and chst to others about our life style choice and get advise from eachother. |

i am a 15 year old girlw ho has just joined the sight. i have pro -ana. at first i was not sure of the meaning of pro-ana but no relize how real it is and the way it effects us. as if the stresses of abeing a teebager arent bad enuff but things like the mdeia and catwalk models then put toher pressures on us to look at certain way. i give up, its simple dont eat and u wont get fat, u may die but hey there are risks involved with everything these days. |

how can you have pro-ana? surely you just are pro-ana? and why can't you anorexics even spell the word? pro-ana sites are dangerous! they are cult like, promoting lifestyles that are life theatening but, they, in essence, are brainwashing vulnerable people into believing what they are doing is not only okay but opening the doors to some kind of elite lifestyle that us 'ordinary' people do not have the superior knowledge to understand. Life is for living and laughing and enjoying - not chasing an unachievable goal!! |

u can live ur life pretending like the things u dont like to talk about (eating dissorders) dont exist because the truth is they do!
girls with eating dissorders need to stick togther, support and encourage each other to iether get better or get ideas and opions on how to get an eating dissorder. wheather u people like it or not people with put up sites and post information about how to get an eating dissorder or as i like to call it a 'life style choice' because girls like me and alot of other girls on here need the support of other people |

Some of us DO want to leave this alone!!!!!! Every one has issues and everyone wants support cause they CAN'T FREAKIN GROW UP.
"I'm to FAT", "I'm too SKINNY", "I HAVE ISSUES",
"I HAVE A.D.D.", "NO ONE LOVES ME","I'M SO UGLY", "MY PENIS IS TOO SMALL", "EVERY ONE IS AGAINST ME", "THAT OFFENDS ME", "YOU SHOULDN'T SAY THAT"!!!@!.
People need to stop whining about everything, and FREAKIN grow up, this is LIFE. I use to do the same shit when I was 12. The solution???
"QUIT YOUR DAMN CRYING and TAKE CONTROL!!" Stop relieing on other's to HELP solve your freakin problems, they have their own. If some one want's to end it all, I say "LET THEM". It could help the daily commute to work for those of us that enjoy life, and don't wanna be late. |

Wow. I just found this thread by clicking a link from my yahoo group. My pro-ana yahoo group. I had no idea what I was getting into. I agree it has gone on long enough but I still feel compelled to put in my two cents. I have an ED. Not only anorexia or bulimia but I have a combination of 3 different disorders. Although I am a member af many yahoo pro-ana groups,I don't visit online sites like the one this thread is about. It is all wrong. They should not be online anywhere. Anorexia IS a disease and NOT a choice and for anyone to say they CHOSE to become an anoretic they are indeed lying through their teeth. Not one single truely anoretic person will tell you he/she decided through his/her own fault to become an anoretic. And yes there are male anoretics. I think the websites should be shut down. I know I sound like a hypocrite but with these yahoo, AOL, MSN groups at least it is possible to know who is coming there for true help and support or to find out how to "become" anorexic, bulimic, ect. With the websites there is no way to censor this information from wanna-be's and there is no guarantee that children don't come in and read all about it and then foolishly decide to "try" it out because it sounds cool. It is not cool. It is a serious illness and I for one would like to shut down every website out there...I just don't have the rescources. |

I am not going to be nice about it. If you are an adult you can take responsibility for your actions. Anorexia kills people, leads to debilitating diseases and is based on a false reality. Promotion of mental illness as reality is a part of the mental illness itself. Many people are lost in their illness and few can ever pull themselves out. THAT is the choice that can be made, not being submissive to your illness. |

Good try, Maegan. I tried the same approach, but some people just seem to ignore the obvious and keep posting about how wrong we are etc. I guess they don't understand the "this is the Museum of Hoaxes web site" concept.
To clear up the confusion here is a definition:
Hoax
n.
1. An act intended to deceive or trick.
2. Something that has been established or accepted by fraudulent means.

you are hurting yourselves. You are all so blinded with this so called body image, that you cannot see the damage that you are doing to your body. I dont know why you think people are attacking you. People try to help you because they are concerned. There is a difference between a healthy skinny and a very dangerous skinny. I wish you all the best of luck and that you find the help that you need. Think of the loved ones around you that are willing to help you. I dont know any of you personally, but one of my best friends died from anorexia and it has been so hard on all of us that knew her. What is sad however is that she wanted help, but it was too late and she let this issue get to serious. I am concerned, and i am not writing to criticize anyone, i just wish everyone the best of luck. And if you dont hear this enough, you are loved and cared about- by me at least, even if i dont know you. God Bless all of you |

I don't know who it'll be, but they are. They are one of the following...
A.) Someone who just read through the whole damned thread and still think they have something new to say
OR
B.) Someone who did not bother to read the thread to see if what they want to say has alreday been said four or five times
OR
C.) A jackass like me who gets his kicks torturing the above two type of people
Any way you cut it, the guy down there is a jerk. |

I think this is why we keep getting comments on this thread. Someone, somewhere has linked us(probably with "OMG DEEZ ST00P1D N00BS THNK PR0-ANA IS A HAOX"), and we continually get people coming in to vent.
I think we should close this thread, since the surge of commentors isn't comprised of people interested in hoaxes, just people who want to yell.
And that's my two cents 😊 |

Your response after you realized you just made an ass of yourself? "I know you are, but what am I?"
If you had read the thread, or even my post foretelling your idiocy FIRST, you would not have bothered to post.

Well, Stephen has posted over 200 comments, which is the magical number beyond which someone can become an 'administrator'. That is, until there are 10 administrators, at which point no more. Unless someone disappears (like Paul?).
So far there are only 5 administrators, so plenty of room.
But Stephen, use your powers wisely. As they say, with great power comes great responsibility. I remember that the power went to Paul's head a little in the beginning and we had to rein him in. Hairy set him straight. |
