The Great Internet UFO Hoax
Ssshhh! What I am about to tell you is a secret. Do not tell anyone. On Saturday, March 19, many people on the internet will hoax the world with the biggest mass UFO sighting in years. The craft will zoom around the United States and the world. What will they see? A craft with 4 lights, 2 of which blinked several colors. They will then report their sighting as happening at APPROXIMATELY (not exactly) the appropriate time, and that's it.... Report the sighting to the National UFO Reporting center by calling 206-722-3000. Do not post this information online. Only share it with 'real life' friends.

so, what you're saying, Nai, is that Alex may have unwittingly, through no malice aforethought or damage intended, unknowingly aided in invading their privacy?

Sort of, but not really. It isn't really private anymore. Now LL just wants to keep it quiet. People still want credit for it though.
LL/LUE doesn't really care for the actual hoax, just the news. Hell, some happy its beginning to spread as a hoax to be. Yet others are still going with the what ifs. Still trying to see if anything else can be done.
Whatever... LL/LUE will think of some other way to get in the news... one day. I mean, probably 5000+ unique users... someone on there cared enough to think of something this elaborate. I'm sure there's someone else who would think of something as or even more creative.
And I'll be sitting here, with the popcorn, watching.

gonna be kinda anti-climactic, but I'll be watching... Hell, I participated in the Hands Across America stunt, and that was pointless

If they wanted to keep it quiet, they should have know better than to let all if the information gather in one place so far ahead of time.
Next time, they should just tell everybody on their site that something's in the works, but not say a word about what. Then they should just post the actual info on their site right before "the event" is supposed to start.
That would avoid any chance of a leak, if only a very small group talked about it, and only on the phone. Shit, people, to pull something that big off (and it's actually a hell of an idea) you need to think of all the little crap, or it'll get out too soon every time.

You know how they say "If you can't beat em, join em?".
I think mayhaps it should read "If you can't join em, beat em."

They probably just wanted as many people as possible to see it... also probably wanted to get as many ideas in. And LUE/LL has a short attention span when it comes to mysterious things. So just saying "Wait until X day for a great thing LUE/LL will be able to do" might be overlooked by people looking for entertainment.
And that's all LUE/LL really wants... just some fun. Any threats are definently not serious. Improper grammar use is, 98% of the time, used to have a comical effect. And the boxes thing is just a joke way of trying to scare someone. They will do it, however. But its all in fun... eventually they get bored and move on.

A link to the original story was posted on LL/LUE and some members were outraged(probably because of boredom). I'm sure that it wasn't just LL/LUE that participated, but I wouldn't doubt if the woman was sent a few hundred boxes or called by a few LLers.
Just the kind of thing that would happen when LL/LUE gets bored.

Wow, the museum of hoaxes has just come in contact with the LUE, the secret underground society of the internet, made up only 8000 members who are chosen for being the most 133+ haxors ever... and for the fact that they've been members of GAMEFAQs.com for a while... and if you aren't a member now, you never will be, and noone will explain it to you exactly what it is... and they scare people by sending empty boxes to people... oooh...
Hey, its kinda like that movie The Skulls... I guess, I kinda saw a trailer and decided not to watch it.

Joe, with all due respect, ignorance truly is bliss for you. By all appearances, you know absolutely nothing about LL (LUELINKS FYI). Before you speak, please understand and be aware of the situation and who you are dealing with.
Just a heads up, and quoting Shakespeare makes you feel cool and original, eh?

I really don't think we're expecting anyone to really believe this for long. It doesn't matter, though. It's just for amusement. OF COURSE boxes aren't going to scare anyone. But they're free and the victim will sure be confused when they get two truckloads of cardboard boxes on their lawn. It doesn't mean anything, don't think too hard about it. That should be the Luelinks motto or something

Boxes recieved by me to date?
Zero.
Posted by Rod on Wed Mar 16, 2005 at 02:25 PM
Zero.
I don't date 'em, I just keep them locked in the basement.
But my basements's awfully empty, except for the crawlspace.

I can only think of one good reason someone would perpetrate a hoax.
That's to discredit an actual event that would take place on the very evening in question.
Govts/individuals know the best way to discredit something is by acknowledging in advance of a 'Real' event taking place and thus describe that a hoax would take place thus everyone who was reporting a 'Real" event would be automatically discredited. In advance certain Institutions/individuals declare a 'Hoax'would be taking place. Many people who would report the real event would not be taken seriously or would not be able to report the event due to huge communication traffic jamming the phone lines.
This unfortuanately won't work because the 'Event' in question will be so Extraordinary Large it will not be able to be contained, discredited nor covered up! Instigators of the hoaxs best be prepared cause sometimes they get more than they bargained for!

Look, we're not out to scare anyone, just out for a little fun. Although, the projects we take on are way too ambitious, as we are extreemly disorganised.
Posted by your name here on Sat Mar 19, 2005 at 03:08 PM
And we all know that's all it takes to pull off a big operation, disorganization.

A bunch of lameasses who probably live in their parent's basement downloading porn and pretending to be hackers, while probably playing Counterstrike or some other lame ass game. They are the phrase "Too much free time" summed up into living beings. Quite amazing and sad actually.
