Self-Adhesive Sunroof
Status: Unusual product
I'm torn between thinking this is one of the stupidest products I've ever seen, and actually kinda wanting one. It's a self-adhesive sunroof, recently offered for sale on eBay. The seller writes:
Do you want your car to have the look of a real sunroof?
You can install it in 5 minutes!!
Extremely fashion and new aparent sun roof, made of a sticker that will give any car the image of a real sunroof...
The DECANO™ adhesive sunroof feels like glass, it´s anti-scracth and mirror like. Each package comes with photographies and step to step installation instructions...
High Status at a very low price !!! A CAR WITH A SUNROOF LOOKS EXTREMELY GOOD!!!

I like some of the questions people have left for the seller, such as:
Q: my car does not have an anti lock braking system - i am interested in an abs light for my dash - i cannot afford nor am i interested in the actual braking benefits of an abs system - i am solely interested in tricking people into thinking my car is safer than it is. do you or are you looking into prototyping this product - it seems like its up your alley.
A: We are working on new ideas, thank you.
And also this one:

Q: Will this work with my convertible?

Yeah, I'm gonna go with 'stupidest thing ever'. It's pointless and wanky.
Alex love, please tell me you were joking when you said you kind of wanted one...

I have a whole fantasy worked out in my mind. I imagine getting in my car and asking people if they want the sunroof open, then pressing an imaginary button on the ceiling of my car and making a little whirring sound as if the sunroof were opening. Then asking people if it's too bright for them.
Yes, I need to get out more.

what would be really cool is if it came raised and bevelled to resemble the old Vista Cruiser station wagon view ports. My only question, and I admit my confusion, is the sunroof thingy only reflective, or can you actually see thru it? That would be a good trick, eh?

Having a sunroof is high status? Wow I have one, yay worship me!

And I'll bet you could sell this sticker thing for the same price they charge to install an actual sunroof!

Wow. I have two.* Double-worship me!
* Though not on the same car, darn it. Maybe I'll buy one of these and apply it to the back end of the roof so it looks like I have two!

OK, the fake sunroof is not actually totally pathetic but getting one and then trying to open it (believing it works) would be. Could I get one, or more, for the public busses? And would anyone know it was there?

I love the way many of those asking questions on the eBay auction genuinely seem to think that it's a working sunroof...

Am I the only one who thinks the advert is a joke and you can't actually buy fake sunroofs?

It's sad how many times the guy had to explain "this sunroof is only ornamental." because people kept asking how to cut a hole in their car to install it...

Well, it's offered on E-Bay, so you'd *have* to be able to buy one, or nastiness ensues.
I'm personally wondering how long that glossy shine lasts.. Even treated rubber breaks down notably.. It'd look like you just had a black rubber thing on your roof after a while.

Robin, forget the shine. How long will this thing stick to a roof? And what will happen when one peels off while the car is at high speed and lands on someone else's windshield? Lawsuits all around is the most probable. Best get one now before they are pulled as a hazard.

Christopher, from reading the page on ebay, it seems like the fake sunroof has adhesive AND magnets to keep it up there. So I don't think that would be too much of a problem, but I could be wrong.
Posted by Sakano on Tue Aug 28, 2007 at 02:16 PM
Sakano, if the adhesive gets weak are the magnets strong enough to hold if the wind gets under an edge? Even if it never happens, some greedy lawyer is sure to claim it will and sue.

It would be fun to put one on your friend's car when he/she wasn't looking.
No, wait! Find a friend who has a sun roof. Spirit the car away to a body shop while your friend is at work. Have them replace the roof-with-a-hole-in-it with a regular, solid roof. Then put on the fake sun roof. Before quitting time, return the car to the parking lot, then watch while your (ex?) friend tries to open the sun roof.
Hmm, I guess I don't get out enough, either.

That is awesome. Not all inventions are great, but you still get paid for them! I don't need a fake sunroof, nor would I ever buy one, but damn that is a very clever idea, lol. Don't be mad at the guy for this, you can only laugh!

Can't stop wondering: of people saying it's pathetic (which I agree with), how many has silicone breasts or botox in the face?

I wonder can I log on Kelley Blue Book's website and increase the value of my car with this! After my fake sunroof I am going to install some fake hood intake vents, slap on a bunch of bumper stickers, then get some of the "fake" spinner rim hubcaps and my Infiniti will be worth much much more I predict! 😊

Oh boy, what will they think of next. A fake sunroof... what's the point?? 🙄

Does anyone know if they do a similar thing for windows? My house doesn't have any but I want to give the impression that it does..
