The Irish Virus hoax

This is just dumb. You receive an email with the following message: Greetings, You have just received the "IRISH VIRUS". As we don't have any programming experience, this Virus works on the honour system. Please delete all the files on your hard drive manually and forward this Virus to everyone on your mailing list. Thank you for your cooperation.
I think I've seen other versions of it that attribute it to other ethnicities/social groups. There's more info about it over at symantec.com. (submitted by Bob Pagani).

But what's funny is that, for the most part, people who are infected with a computer virus have to be just that foolish.

I mean, come on, DON't OPEN ATTACHMENTS, people...!

It's not that easy. I got a virus on my old computer and I NEVER open attachments. It was from a new virus that has no cure and says something like "ATTENTION: From you email service." It is not as simple as not opening attachements.

FYI, this is making fun of the honor system viruses. Read about Jdbgmgr.exe virus. It was an email hoax that instructed to delete a virus Jdbgmgr.exe - which was really a valid and useful program.

And to the "Don't Open Attachment guy", you are probably the person who gets the "Your computer is infected, download this virus software" pop up and install renegade virus protection.
