I think you have to be dead to have a bridge named after you.

they should only name bridges after dead people, but I think this rule is not universally observed. Here in the Dallas area we have the "President George Bush Turnpike" (an appropriate name for a toll road that rips you off a couple of dollars and takes you nowhere), and the "Lyndon B. Johnson Freeway," which had that name even when LBJ was still alive.

I'm very excited about the new bridge name, because Emperor Norton is one of my personal heroes. He exemplified the maxim that you should "Dress for the job you want, not the job you have now."

I don't think there's any hard & fast rule for naming bridges here in the U.S., but I believe there should be a Federal law that makes a rule similar to the USPS regulation that states that no identifiable individual person, except deceased U.S. Presidents, can be depicted on a U.S. postage stamp until they have been dead for at least ten years. It's too bad the USPS has been relaxing that rule, recently; it's saved a lot of national embarassment. Just ask any western Pennsylvanian about the "Bud Shuster Highway" (I-99 project), and they'll tell you about lot of "dirt".

Freeways aren't the same as bridges.

And neither is the same as a postage stamp, dear. The point is, if a community names a supposedly long-standing construction of any sort in the name of a living person, they had better be able to take the negative public relations heat if that individual later disgraces him/herself politically.

Half of West Virginia seems to be named after another would-be emperor, Sen. Robert Byrd, who is alive and pontifica -- er, breathing. A rule against such honors is certainly prudent as a brake on self-aggrandizement and undue ambition.

well stork it seems your just as lazy as the
more than one million 22,000 registered voters that were either to busy or just didn't care to
vote for me to win that particular election, but
the real crime is the fact that if you had tuned
in you would have heard me call every American
citizen who's paying taxes to the federal govt.,
contributing killers of children and innocent
bystanders in all wars and policing actions by
the military forces all over the world, this is a
fact! even the anti- war protesters are involved
in the hypocrisy and complacency, so don't speak
so holier than thou to me,I never payed any taxes
that went to any action that would harm anyone!,
especially other countries children, behaviors
like those mentioned here create hate, revenge,
bad karma, & a multitude of Pandora's box contents
overflowing into our world of reality. I can tell
you this for absolute affirmation that if I'm ever
in a position of real control,you're all going
to pay for those damages as well as the ones I
have been subjected to in this invisible battle
that's been going on between myself and all of the
hypocrite governments on this planet especially
