Most people think the musician Jim Morrison, lead singer for the Doors, died in Paris on July 3, 1971. But Gerald Pitts says that he "discovered Jim Morrison Living on a Ranch in the Pacific Northwest in the summer of 1998." According to him, Morrison is living a quiet life as an American cowboy "away from the Hollywood scene." Even though Morrison evidently engineered an elaborate death hoax to escape publicity, he agreed to appear on film for Pitts. You can buy a copy of this film for only $24.95 (shipping is extra). Pitts' site includes a video comparing the features of Jim Morrison the fifty-something cowboy to Jim Morrison the twenty-something singer. However, no matter how many times I watch the video, I just don't see any similarity.

Today I finished reading ALL the posts on this site. It really makes me wonder why the Morrison family does not have the body exhumed to make sure there is a body in there, and if there is, DNA to see if its Jims.
From what I gather, Admiral Morrison does not speak about Jim (except in a few statements from "The Doors by the Doors" book.) When Jim was placed in the Medical Institute in Paris, I wonder if there was any autopsy or photos that we don't know about and sent to the Admiral to confirm his son was indeed deceased. I would never be able to take the word of a foregin embassy that my son/daughter died in another country unless I saw proof or had the grave exhumed.
Now that I've read all the posts, yes, there are two pictures from the Gerald site that resemble Jim. How could Jim even be in this country when Florida has not yet given him a pardon. He surely would have had to go through the appelate process and get those charges dropped so he doesnt face jail time. IF the government knew he was alive, they would find him would they not?
Im just throwing questions out there.
Heres some other intresting facts: When Brian Jones died, Jim wrote and dated his "Ode to Brian Jones" July 3 (the day Jones died). That handwritten note by Jim is in one of the latest books with some poems, pictures given by his family. If Jim committed suicide, perhaps he wanted to do it on the same day as Brian Jones, July 3. Then again, there are pictures on the internet of Jim and Pam only about a week before he died. (he's wearing the eggplant colored shirt and she in a long black cape/coat). He looks FINE to me here and he is not overweight at all... he is slim. He is smiling as he and Pam are photographed, sitting at lunch and walking about Paris. How then, does Mr. Raisson (spelling), one of the fire-brigade attendees say he saw a "fat man in a bathtub". Jim was not fat as proven by pics taken just before that.
When we are in water, we look heavier, but this gentleman also states they took his body out of the tub and placed him on the bed. Would he not see how slim Jim was at that point.
So yes, there are a lot of holes in the story. The timeline. Pam's drug dealer the Count, who flees the country when he finds out Jim Morrison is dead and takes MaryAnn Faithful with him.
No one is telling the truth. Not Pam, and she is the only one who could ever have told the truth.
So the solution comes back once again...exhume the body (if there is one in there) find out what killed this person, take DNA. And if it is the great Jim Morrison our answers can finally be put to rest.
I feel as fans, we are owed that much to know the truth, and the truth is only an exhumation/DNA away.
What I wanted to point out was if this is indeed (one of the men photographed) Jim Morrison why isnt The Doors Corporation and the Morrison family suing RW to put a stop to this? Do they know something we dont? There is also a video out there using advertisement with Light My Fire for the same. Here is something I noticed:
In the RodeosWest statement, they say this is Jim Morrison of the "Doors". There is a big difference between the words, "The Doors" and
the "Doors." RW is using the latter, which may make legal action difficult. John Densmore, as you all know, took Ray and Robbie to court for using the name "THE DOORS OF THE 21ST CENTURY".
That was because the word "THE DOORS" was inclusive in the title. Gerald Pitts has excluded the word "THE" from the official title saying only the "DOORS". Perhaps this is the way he has avoided prosecution?
Then again, RW is claiming this is Jim Morrison and sent all kinds of correspondence to The Doors Management without any response. You can't pretend to be someone on the internet and claim to truthfully be so without legal problems yet neither The Doors nor the Morrison Family has tried to shut the site down.
Any thought on this one, as to why no action has been taken..the site is still up there.

On youtube you will find an interview with Ray joking that Jim is alive as a cowboy in Oregon. Other people say why should the Doors investigate RW when it is just a flybynight organization out to make a buck.
The truth of the matter is that RW has been around for almost 10 years and has invested what little resources it has to try to break out what it knows to be true. Until the 5million dollar law suit won by John Densmore (thank you Mr. Densmore!), no one could touch the Doors/Riders On the Storm/of the 21stCentury but now the glass spider is shattered. The truth will be known to everyone. In the meantime, true Jim Morrison fans have made their hearts known.
I wonder what it would take to get someone to has one of these types of cameras to look underground. It also comes to mind that Pam may have had Jim cremated and scattered his ashes in one of his favorite places in France. There is at least one person on the Doors board who knew Jim that stated she didnt think he was buried there, she had a lot of doubts. I have serious doubts that he is buried there as well.
JLizard, I have an open mind about Jim's sudden disappearance. Only a few people saw his body. I also have questions about his disappearance like was it suicide or did someone kill him. Notice all the Nixon-era "rebels" were gone in a flash, Hendrix, Joplin, Morrison..and even Lennon. It wasn't until Lennon made his last album that he was taken out. Yet his killer isn't in a psych ward and there was no trial. Some people think government conspiracy to take out the "rebels" of our society, especially such influential and charasmatic people like the above.
Do you believe personally that Morrison is alive? I think if anyone wanted to escape forever and leave everything, he would be the one to pull it off. He was beating to a different drum than Lennon or Hendrix or anyone else. I really wouldnt be surprised one day if we found out he was living in Saychilles (like Ray mentioned) or some remote part of the world, having $$$ funnelled to him through a third.

Let me share a few things with you. I grew up in Long Island and myself and the boy across the street were good friends since age 3. He was also friends with my brother. His sister still lives in the house across the street from my mother. His name is Richie. He had married someone who was very abusive to him physically (my brother used to tell me horror stories) and Richie told me in our early 30s things that were going on. He divorced his wife, she married someone in a crazy cult, Richie was able to get his 3 children away from them and he fled to Florida. He was very close to his sisters, as they all lived in the same house. He told me he was moving to Florida..and that was it..he disappeared. His sister told my mother they have never heard from him since and they are unable to track him down.
His sister said the ex-wife's husband had put a contract out on his life because he had the kids. Yet when I wrote to her two years ago at Christmas, she told me she heard from Rich about 7 years ago but not since.
Funny she told me and my mother two different stories. Maybe thats because I dont live there at the time. Obviously the sister is protecting Rich so no one knows his whereabouts..it happens!
Also my husband's grandfather pulled a fake death as well. My father in law lived with his dad until age 8..he was alcholic and told me his father died but he was too young to go to the funeral, he was sent to live with an aunt.
My father in law hired people about 10 years ago to track down where his father was buried and found out, his father had moved to California, got married had children, apparently quit drinking because he lived to be 86. When my father in law was telling me about his father 30 years ago, and how he died, etc. the man was actually alive at the time and living in California! And he had even told me the details of how his father was in a hospital dying from alcoholism and died in his early 30s... so, anything can happen!

I was hoping that one day his brother/sister would have his grave exhumed or flown to the US. If it were my brother, I would want DNA testing to see what killed my brother. They can do DNA and testing on bones thousands of years old.

Yes, Jim's dad passed Nov. 17th and the date it trickled down to the public was approx. Nov. 28th, when someone who knew Jim posted it on
THE DOORS website. Eleven days is indeed a long time to make the Admiral's passing known. I also wonder why it took his parents almost 20 years to visit Jim's grave.
Yesterday I read Alain Ronay's version of what happened July 2, 3. He had spent most of the 2nd with Jim. According to this version, he (Alain) and Agnes Varda were called to the apartment. Alain's story makes it sound as if Jim was left to lie in the apartment, with the "ice man" coming on a regular schedule to put dry ice on Jim's body. Alain makes no mention of his body being taken to the Medical Institute for 3-4 days and leaves the reader to believe Jim was left in the apartment the entire time.
Do you think John Densmore knows more than we do about Jim??
I notice our debate is once again turning in circles..so for the sake of those who do not know the proceedure for disposal in France I will repeat.
1) In any suspicious death, the local police are called in to verify that there is a corpse
2) A local Corroner is called by Police to decide if there is "Foul play" involved
3)Whether of not "foul play" is involved the police decide whether to issue an investigation.
There was no investigation with regard to Jim...also those from America must understand thad cremation is extremely rare here..it seldom happens.
Also in France we protect our dead...we dont rip them out of their graves just to satisfy the morbid curiosity by doing DNA..or skull reconsruction! although I understand why fans would want it

I do have one question though. Jim was taken to the Medical Institute in Paris.. back in 1971 would you know if that was a hospital? I am not sure of the translation of medical institute or it that what the French would call a funeral home.
Today would have been his 65th birthday. As I said I try to keep an open mind, but deep down I dont believe he is alive, so I'll end this discussion and hope that all of us fans remember him on this day...also John Lennon.

And some of the pictures on the Rodeos West site are sketchy, as if the guy looks different entirely from other pictures, and the arms are blotted out in a couple pictures, and the resolution is very small. Anyway, I'm 99% sure it's a scam, regardless, but there is that little glimmer of possibility that it really is Jim. I'm not ruling it out yet, at least, but I'm also not paying for that video, either, knowing it's likely a hoax. My further comments are in the first comments to that YouTube video.

So my first thought upon seeing the "Jim Morrison is alive in Oregon" video by rodeoswest was, ah, I don't think so... I was quite certain he had died in Paris as reported, and was probably lucky to have lived that long, even, with the excess he was known for. I'm still 95% sure that it has to be a scam, regardless, but that other 5% is pretty intriguing the more I think about it.
I have no desire to buy the video, with the skeptic in me still more certain that it's a hoax... so I can only comment on what's available online. But I'll come at this from that intriguing 5% POV, because, let's face it, that's a lot more interesting.
Aside from any possibilities of fakery (which there certainly might be), people have commented how that doesn't look anything like Jim, but it really does, especially if you consider that 37 YEARS have passed since 1971. People age in different ways, and I think it's very much in the realm of possibility that Jim could look like that at this point.
For those that say that he couldn't have survived this long with his drinking and drug use, well, in one sense I think he would have had to stop that at some point, but then again, Keith Richards is the same age as Jim Morrison would be. Nuff said...
As for the idea that he's a cowboy raising horses now being absurd... that actually rings true for me. I'm sure it wasn't an immediate transition from worldly rock god poet to country cowboy living on a ranch, but you can't presume what kind of directions life will take you. Certainly, if Jim did fake his death, his life must have taken some different directions after that point. My life is quite different today than it was about 10-12 years ago, and again, we're talking about 37 years here.
The voice on the recording is also convincing after hearing it a few times... Similar kind of expression as Jim... Sure, it doesn't sound like the warm and round tone we know from The Doors, but it sure sounds like someone after years of alcohol and cigarettes. Remember, it's been 37 years. I believe I've heard recordings of Morrison from 1970-71 where he sounded a lot like that. And though he seems to be straining, you can kind of hear that classic Morrison croon when he sings.

That he says "ride" instead of "try" doesn't bother me at all... We have to assume that he hasn't been obsessively singing Doors songs for 37 years, and just because you wrote some lyrics doesn't mean you can remember them. I'm a musician and songwriter and there are songs of mine that I performed many times just a few years ago that I'd have trouble remembering the words to now.
Why would he come out now after 30+ years and have some rodeo guy in Oregon represent him and promote him (barely)? I might say, precisely for the reason that is given... because Gerald became friends with him. I mean, gee, I don't know... you'd think he'd be wary of telling anybody he's still alive, but at the same time, there could be that old rock star in him that might want a little of that old recognition.
Not that Jim Morrison hasn't had huge recognition since his death... of course he has... but I'm talking about current recognition of who you are now... They may have realized that to put this idea out there would be jeered and not believed by many people, anyway, so what's to lose. Or maybe, if it is the real Jim, he's having a laugh with it. Or maybe he's not, um, entirely in the best state of mind to really know what to do anymore in terms of publicity.
To emphasize again, he'd be 64 now, and with many years (or at least those years in the 60's and early 70's) of heavy drug and alcohol use in him. I'm just trying to draw a psychological portrait that might fit with what we've been given. Not to insult Jim if it really is him... if he stopped his heavy drinking then he's probably okay now... But at this point he might be a bit of an old kook, you know what I mean? And that would help to explain the nature of this whole thing.
The website does seem a little disingenuous, though... There are only a few pictures of small size, there are photos that include obvious painting over the arms (covering up tattoos, it looks like), there are references to Ray Manzarek admitting on video that Jim is alive where Ray is obviously being sarcastic... Certainly, more could be done to show definitively that the guy is THE Jim Morrison. I don't know, but then again, you wouldn't expect the best presentation from some rodeo guy...
Again, my rational self tells me this is a hoax and a scam, but there are a number of things about it that seem very plausible and so it is, if nothing else, interesting to consider. It's a screwy story if it is true, but what a story if so... Here's hoping we get more information.

I appreciate your comments on the youtube video. I would like to comment about the picture of Rodeo's Wests' "Jim Morrison."
In the seated picture of him holding the gun, it does look like Jim. I, along with some friends, took that picture, blew it up, lightened it, darkened it, printed it out..and compared it to another pic of Jim in the same position looking straight on.. and the resemblance is striking.
When you look at the left side of the picture by Jim's jaw, one side is slightly larger than the other.. in both pictures, and in all of young Jim's pictures you see the same thing.
We compared the eyes, jaw, mouth... printed out the young Jim picture and we came up with
a)someone either photoshopped the "old" Jim or
b) its someone who would look like him or
c)it is him.
About the audio on RodeoWest. My friends and I did our best comparing Moonlight Drive in that audio to the way Jim sang it on several different versions. One thing stood out and we all agreed: the way the last two words are sung sound like the way young Jim sang it.
Listen to the way he says DRIVE. We made comparisons to a live version as well, and they are the same.
Also, we made comparisons to the way "old" Jim said Ray Manzareck's name to the way young Jim said it upon introducing Ray in a live concert. Sounds exactly the same. "Old" Jim could have picked up a slight accent in the 37 years he disappeared.

What an amazing story. I am sincerely sorry that I went off on ya, I just felt that you were being sarcastic. I know I wasn't there for Jim when he was with the DOORS, but I am now. Now when everyone has turned there back on him for money.

You mentioned Jim was involved in construction work. I ask myself why would Jim do that when he has the right to 1/4 share of all The Doors profits, which would make him a multi-millionaire. Then again, no one is like Jim Morrison--he was a totally unpredictable guy.
The only picture that resembles him is of the one seated with the guns. In that picture, the eyes look BROWN. There are some pictures of Jim taken in black/white and color in which his eyes look brown as well (see The Doors official site for picture on the cover).
However, in reality Jim's eyes were a blue-gray. Jim was arrested in Florida on an incident at the Clearwater Pier, along with his friend. Jim gave his eyecolor as "gray". In several color photos with Pam, you can see Jims eyes were a blue/gray and Pams were green. Yet his eyes do come out looking brown in certain pics.
About Cliff Morrison-- in the past I have listened to his voice on his myspace. There were a few threads about this on the official Doors website- http://www.thedoors.com and Cliff challenged the Morrison family to DNA. They were going to go ahead with it, then declined. Then Cliff declined. It was a back and forth thing. The people on The Doors website who knew Jim say Cliff is not his son. Im sure you can find those threads, they were posted this summer.
I understand the Courson family and his parents went to court to each receive half of Jim's quarter. I cannot see Jim ever wanting his parents to live on the money he made unless he abandoned everything and decided to live poor.
Something I noticed-- Jim loved the movie Casablanca. He had sat through it three times and missed their first gig after receiving a contract. He also visited Casablanca twice that I am aware of. He was so intrigued with this movie. Ironic how he ended up in Paris, just like in the movie... Bogart made a tough decision in the movie to send his true love away..the movie ends with Bogart putting her on a plane to go to the US while he stayed there.
The parallel struck me the other day. Jim stayed "behind" in Paris while Pam flew back to the US by Bill Siddons.

Look at the SHOULDERS in that picture! looking to the left of the photo, you see the right shoulder is down a bit while the right one is raised.... exactly like in the picture of the older cowboy Jim seated in that Rodeo West photo. Jim was about 24 in this picture, add on 40 years and weight, age.
