For the past week, I have developed a little Nyquil habit. Lately, I have been having some AWESOME dreams!!!! The Weird thing is that they have been Night Mares, but I have somewhat become de-sensitised, and they are actually enjoyable. I have also noticed an improvement in my Lucid dreaming. With all this combined together, I know that I am in a nightmare, but instead of changing it into a nice dream like an orgy with the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, I choose to stay in the nightmare, and for some odd reason, I am enjoying myself, even when I wake up in the midddle of the night, I try to go back to sleep, I want to return to that same nightmare.
Has anyone had this little problem???

It's never worth killing yourself. Maybe times are hard now, but you have to push through no matter what. You become stronger for it; like they say, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I've been through enough to tell you the pain passes in time, as will these problems. If you just hold on things can and will get better. You just have to give life a chance. |

Darlings,
Please go to YouTube and search on EFT Tapping. There are many videos that show you how to get a good night's sleep without drugs. My nephew just died from mixing Tylenol PM, alcohol and some prescription meds. We are all hurting and the world has lost a great talent. There are better ways. EFT works on lots of problems and doesn't cost a thing. No pusher. No drug store. Just you balancing out your energy.
Good luck! |

How can there be such a long discussion about NyQuil without anyone actually mentioning its active ingredients? Many of the posts here are inaccurate. There are so many misconceptions about NyQuil, so here we go...
NyQuil contains alcohol. But it is only about 10% alcohol. It is simply not enough to get you drunk, even if you drank half of the bottle. This is the most common misconception about NyQuil.
Misconception #2 is about the fact that NyQuil contains dextromethorphan, or DXM. This is a cough suppressant found in many cough syrups. This drug can make you extremely high with extremely high doses. But NyQuil contains very little of it compared to other syrups. DXM users generally use other brands of syrup that have a higher dose, and no other active ingredients. You would need to drink a couple of bottles of NyQuil to get a DXM high, which could kill you because of the next active ingredient...
Acetaminophen, a.k.a paracetamol, a.k.a Tylenol. A bottle of NyQuil has 10 times the maximum safe dose of Tylenol. Tylenol overdose is one of the leading causes of liver failure, which is why NyQuil is not a viable source for recreational DXM or alcohol use. However, you don't need to take a dangerous amount of NyQuil to get a NyQuil high, because of the final active ingredient...
Doxylamine succinate. This is the ingredient that is always overlooked, and the real reason for the NyQuil high. It is an antihistamine, which makes you extremely drowsy. It is said to be the most powerful hypnotic sleep aid available without a prescription. It also is responsible for making your sinuses dry. This substance is somewhat addictive, especially if you are stressed or unhappy. It completely numbs you, makes you able to forget about the outside world, and also makes you sleep for about 20 hours straight. Apparently doxylamine abuse is popular with recovering heroin addicts, because it takes the edge off.
Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to sit back, and relax with a double dose (60 mL) of tasty green NyQuil, and watch TV until I pass out and wake up sometime next Tuesday. |

Doxylamine succinate is the ingredient that makes you tired, no doubt, but I think you're overstating how strong it is. I've been taking Unisom every night for about ten years, sometimes one pill after a several beers. I vary between half a pill (half recommended dose) and a whole pill, sometimes with alcohol and without. If mixing it with alcohol in itself were harmful, they wouldn't allow it in Nyquil.
Anyway I would say yes it is addictive in the sense that my "sleep clock" would be somewhat unregulated without it, but I can skip the tablets as long as I have some beer or melatonin tabs or something else to put me to sleep. Its too hard to sleep otherwise with inconsiderate riff raff neighbors with loud motorcycles and such. I could give up Unisom but I'd probably end up at the doctor, with them giving me something stronger and a lot more expensive.. Maybe I will try to wean myself off it slowly one day soon. Recently did same with nicotene gum and it wasn't too hard. |

By the way, I did get weird, lucid dreams with Nyquil.. and even worse it wakes me up in the middle of the night defeating the purpose. It does suppress cough, so I might take it when I get one, but Unisom and a couple of shots of good vodka is a lot smoother, leaves you feeling ready to go in the morning, and no Nyquil hangover or weird dreams. I don't know what else they put in there but its not the Doxylamine Succinate that feels like LSD. |
Concerned.

Wow. A lot of the information posted is extremely incorrect. the closest, and yes, I have multiple pharmacology texts, and happen to be pursuing the goal currently, and can prove many of these to be incorrect.
The most accurate are the posts posted by the user: Arthur Dent. I've gotten direct quotes.
do the research before you en up giving someone the wrong info. you'll kill someone. |

I have the same thing, but like people said be careful and only take it when your sick cause it is really addictive. I used to not be able to sleep without it and I when I ran out I couldnt sleep till like 3 in the morning. So dont rely on it. But have fun while your "sick" 😉 |

I have been taking nyquil for a couple of days now. With the nyquil, I usually sleep like the dead. However, before I am overtaken by the deep sleep, I slowly slip into a strange dream world. It feels as if I am half awake and half in a dream state. Images from my bedroom blend with foreigh images creating an amalgam of fear and comfort in knowing that I am still safely asleep in my room. |
