Took me a while. I'd comment more on it, but I'm afraid I'd ruin it for everyone else. |

It's a one trick horse. 5's are worth 4, 3's 2. End of story. It's just damned frustrating when you try to add, multiply fucking everything.
It's the epitome of the obvious hiding in plain sight. This type of shit has led me to question school on more than one equation. |

"It had taken Dr. Duke well over a year himself, and he would always explain that the smarter you were, the longer it took to figure it out."
I first saw this when a chemistry teacher of mine invited the class to join the 'polar bear club'- all you had to do was tell him how many 'polar bears' there were round the 'ice-hole'. and not tell anyone the secret, obviously. |

I'm obviously a complete idiot because I got the answer instantly. And I think this is an instance where it's okay to say that 'any idiot should get the answer right away.' But if you're a genius, it might take a little longer. |

Don't read on if you haven't solved it yet!
But anyways, I think the smartest person would figure it out first; I spent a lot of time trying to work with the numbers, but a person with a sense of the real would realize the significance of the dice and that the problem involved shapes and not numbers. |

...I never was good at this sort of thing. Even after reading everyone's hints (& I thought I had it once...), I didn't get it. I guess I'm just thick. Although...maybe the reference about the smartest people not figuring it out has to do w/ people who understand a lot of #s, shapes, patterns will work too hard to see what is actually being shown. Overthinking things. So people w/ a simpler thought process will not have any of that in their head while looking at it. |

Well, the belief that smarter people take longer to solve it would be contrary to "the seminar program" which I am in. It's an advance series of classes in my school and many others for student who score exceptionally well on a pattern-recognition test. I think that whoever says this test takes smarter people longer would insist that mathmatically-oriented people are smarter. Might I remind you that there is no clinical definition for "smart?" |

Yah, so I've been working on this thing around 5 minutes and don't think I'm even close. I'll think I have it and get a few in a row, then it's wrong. I know it's something easy and simple, but it's just not coming. Is it safe to say that college has destroyed my chances at ever understanding another simple puzzle? |

Took me about 15 mins to figure it out and I've got an IQ of 129 (thats 2 points off joining MENSA). I think the smarter you are thing is a loada rubbish, its more a test to see just how creative and open-minded you are. |

GAHH!! Maybe I'm just not creative or open-minded. And to think...part of my employee evaluation was based on my creative ability & my ability to think outside the box. Guess I should give that extra $2/hr back. |

Ooooook, after 4 hours, I now have a headache, but I finally figured it out. HOW in the world did some of you figure that out in a matter of min.??? That is crazy!!!!! How could someone "assume" that is how it worked only after a couple of rolls???? It took me 50-60 rolls!, just a process of elimination. This was NOT worth the headache. Your all nuts!!!! HOW CAN THIS JUDGE A PERSONS INTELLIGENCE??? I also wander if a higher % of females where able to get this quick because of the "Rose" thing. Sorry, I'm just kinda upset that I spent that long on this "thing". Kinda aggrivated. |

I tried to get the girl at home to do the test. she tried for 15 min. and now she wants nothing to do with it. Actually put her in bad mood, witch didn't help me out later on. That game is evil. I want to take that game that SATAN made himself, grab it, twist it,rip, tear, stomp, bite, curse.....oh DAMNED. Maybe I will just give that thing to Paul. He deserves it. |

I once played a drinking game in college called 'up-down', or something like that. Only played it once, so I can't remember the exact details, but the basic premise was that everyone had to try to solve a puzzle. The possible answers were up-up, up-down, or down-down. If you got it wrong, you had to drink. The correct answer had to do with whether the guy who came up with the riddle had his hands up or down. A few people were never able to work it out. |

O.K. here's my 2 cents worth,
I had this figured out within 4 throws, I'm a goldsmith and designer, My 16 year old daughter, much like her dad, has it figured out in 2 throws, my wife, math wiz, former banker, dosn't get it, thinks it stupid and goes to get a glass of wine, my son, first year mechanical engineering course, last seen with pencil and paper deep in thought...
Conclusion:
Its not a matter of how smart you are as to how you see problems such as this, we arty types look at this much more figuratively where as math types are looking for a problem where one may not exist.
That there is my theory and I'm sticking to it. |

Yup, too deep of thinking will destroy your mind when coupled with this evil little thingy. I wonder if the Prof is dead, and if so, whether or not his demise had anything to do with this game and several hundred disgruntled students.
It took me 3 days, total time spent on it about 2.5 hours first day, 2 hours second, then about 1.5 MINUTES on the third. Just depends on your state of mind when you look at it, I guess. (Before the drug jokes come in, I was actually smokin pot on the third day, but not the first two. And they say it doesn't help creativity!)
Oh, and I purposely avoided reading any comments on this until I had it figured out. |

WHY IS THAT PEOPLE ALWAYS SAY THAT THEY ARE GOING TO TAKE A DUMP, WHEN REALLY, THEY ARE LEAVING IT. My only advice, if someone is obviosly threatening to hurt you and it looks like they can, shit in your hand and tell them that you are going to throw it at them. I bet they will leave you alone. |

I can see the headline progression from this one...
"Man Driven Insane By Stupid Dice Game"
"The Dice Game: Are You Stupid?"
"The Dice Game: A Communist Plot To Occupy Our Time?"
"Doctors Warn About TDG Syndrome"
"TDG: Thousands Hospitalized For Psychosis"
"TDG: U.S. Crippled By Losses Of Its Greatest Minds"
"TDG: Will Civilization Fail?"
"THDWBNJLKKML:LKJYITUIYLKJK FREAKIN GAME!!!"
And then nothing, until, wafting in on the breeze comes "The Alien Times: Serving The Greys Since .00687", with a headline reading
"Dice Game Ploy Successful" |

Yar, I know how to look in a dictionary--but as I've said, my mind is distressingly literal. When it says "How many petals are around the rose?", my natural response is, "WHAT rose?" I don't know...somehow it unnerves me to be messing around with hypothetical roses. Couldn't they put up a nice photograph of a rose or something so that you know what you're working with? (It would have to be really grainy or blurry or something, though, so that idjits wouldn't be tempted to actually try and count the petals on it...) |

Yes, I SAW the post. But it isn't completely accurate. 5 isn't WORTH 4, it HAS 4...So when I returned to the site after reading that, I applied the same logic to the rest of the di. It wasn't working. Charybdis' post gave me my answer...now I know that at least ONE person knew it, and wasn't just saying they did to be part of the crowd. 😛 |
