Yes there's a catch. The first few people probably will get a free gift.
You can work out the trick on the faq page.
Andy is the third to by a booster, yet at the end of the page he still has to wait for 4 new members.
Just write it out on a piece of paper and see how long it will take for Martin in last place to get a free gift. And that's still only with 11 members and all the FREE articles need many more new members before they send one out (40 for the Sharp mobile)
And they still collect 40 bucks for every new member. And you'll have to work your ass off to get new members to jump the queue.
Good old pyramid scam in a new disguise. |

I know some people who participate in something like this. They'll get $50 if they sign up for something (credit card app, cd/dvd club...etc). BUT in signing up for something, they have to enter x names of their friends "who would be interested in this program". That x # of friends will -all- have to sign up for something and input THEIR friend's names. If this 3rd set of people all do their part...then group 2 has gotten their money & the original group has gotten their money. ...or it's similar to this idea...I'm not sure how many groups of people end of having to sign up so that the original group gets their cash...but it can't be worth $50. |

I did subscribe to this website and I also did pay to get a free Ipod. First, when you pay $40, the website clearly states that it is to get two cellphone signal booster. The week after I sent $40, I received those cable boosters and I had my name added on the 40gb ipod list for "free". I did some publicity on ebay and 28 people that i refered with that publicity payed the $40 to get a free ipod and receive signal boosters. Therefore, I instantly received an email offering me the ipod or the money. I decided to take the money. The next morning, I had $430 in my paypal account. Is this a scam ? Don't think so if you need signal boosters...On the other side, people that do not refer others will have to wait a few months before receiving their ipod considering they send about one every day.

Francis, I never said they don't give ANY gifts.
Well, let's start by saying I've seen the same boosters for 5 dollar a piece. So they make 30 bucks a pop. The iPod 40gb appears to be the most popular item, so yes maybe they give these out a bit quicker as long as there are enough people choosing that gift.
Right now there are 699 people on the waiting list (with a little help from Excel), all needing 29 people to become a member before they get their iPod, that's 20271 new members. If you are number 699 when excactly do you expect your iPod?
20271 divided by 29...duhh...699 days. That's 2 years. IF 29 or more people a day choose that gift.
That little extra commercial thing at the end there makes me think you work for them Francis.
Compare the writing style to this, folks:

Some desperate people have been signing up more than once for the Sony Vaio laptop.
There are 1238 people waiting for that. You need 80 people or more A DAY to sign up for this gift.
If poor Brian Povall (last on the list) wants his Vaio NOW he needs to persuad 1238*80=99040 people to become members. Good luck Brian! |
Francis
|
Posted: Mon Nov 22, 2004 | 04:53 PM
Yea, but as i said, for example, if you refer 80 people for the laptop (whatever the time it takes), you get the laptop the instantly. Thats what I did for the Ipod (my name is on the top of the list with a fast track sign on the side) and i received my money. I dunno if this is good or bad. not sure how to rate this website but it does work...I don't work for them, but I did benefit of the website. |

No Francis,
quote: How can I get my free gift faster? If you personally recommend a friend then you will skip (queue jump) the person above you in the list. This will significantly reduce your waiting time. Using the previous example, if you were 20th on the list and introduced one friend per day then you would be at the top of the list after 18 days. You don't need to refer your friends if you don't want to, it's your choice to decide if to wait little longer or do a little advertising and progress fast. : unquote
You still need more then 1000 friends to sign up for the laptop if you are poor Brian.. |

Okay, 1 iPod costs them 430 dollar.
A user needs 28 people to get 1 iPod. 28 times 40 dollar= 1120 dollar. As some sites are capable of selling these boosters for 5 dollar, the cost price has to be less than that. But you get 2 and let's say they cost them 5 dollar too. That's 280 dollar they have to spend on one user. 1120-280=840 dollar. Minus your iPod: that leaves them 410 dollar profit.
That's for those that are somehow able to jump the queue. Now have a look at those who have a 0 next to their name (have jumped nothing!). These poor suckers are paying for YOUR FREE GIFT.
So, it's still a scam. |

Hi everyone...never realized there is such heated debate over whether or not this is a scam...who knows? And moreoever, who cares? I am not a pyramid fan (Dick Clark hosting or not) so I usually don't participate in any of them.
However...I have been fighting SBC California for about 6 months now and am ALL too familiar w/ the FTC, FCC (Federal Communications Commission as well as the C.P.U.C. (California Public Utilities Commission...I have even said that if need be, I'll be all to eager to speak to NBC about SBC...all to no avail. As a result I am very much about the fine print (I usually jump to the end of any good book anyway to see what the little stars mean)...amazing how I have two phone lines attached to my home for the High Speed DSL reasons (then why would I need DSL in the first place? Isn't it prety much a moot point?
Anyway, I was on one phone line making calls & while on tha line...my phone is also calling 6 other phone numbers?! To make a long story even longer...basically, my phone bill got up to $3300+ ($1500-$1700 were for various phone sex chatlines none of which I was a member (and given the fact that I am a woman I could pretty much have phone sex w/ ALMOST any man I choose out of the phone book...not saying I'm all that or anything...just that if a woman walked into a bar and exclaimed, "I am horny & need to get laid...any takers?" how long do you think she's gonna wait before leaving with someone? NOW ask yourself the same question except make it all the women in the bar vs. a man walking in and posing the same question..and how long he had to wait?
Bottom line is...read your phone bills carefully, even if you dispute it and the geniuses at the phone company can't assist you...you then present your case to the CPUC in the hopes that something willl FINALLY take care of you only to find out that the CPUC wants you to first "Pay the Disputed Amount" and an investigation will be launched to address any concerns you may have about this situation. So they want me to go to them and hand over $3300+ for these "disputed charges" and they may not be able to PROVE that you didn't without the proper traces being installed, etc.
But don't fret my pet (I really am ALMOST finished), should they find you in the clear (good luck), they don't return the overpayment to you....they append it to your account and hope that you run up the cost in charges...thereby you sort of admitting blame and proving that you ARE the type to incur the disputed charges...lol. Around and Around we go, where we stop nobody knows..lol.
Anyway, thanks for letting me put you to sleep...I'm sure you are ALL on edge awaiting future posts from me...lol.

Hi again...sorry about this...I know I put most of you to sleep w/ my last post but this time I promise to be brief...really.
My whole reasoning behind posting on this site was NOT to get on my soapbox in regard to SBC or any other phone company, but in fact that when pop up ads like the one listed in the popular Paul/Owen/Francis Debacle of 2004, you might be charged for things you are unaware of at the time EVEN IF YOU BACK OUT OF THE OFFER!!
(Didn't you just pray I'd have an example?)...as I mentioned earlier...I READ every last part of my phone bill with a magnifying glass. To my shock & dismay I found the name of a company that bills themselves (via phone bill) as OAN Services, Inc.
You'll find under their name and address is a charge for PRIVASAFE MAIL. I was charged 3 times for this same item even though it was NEVER downloaded to my computer and the Customer Service Rep I spoke with informed me that it was probably a pop-up window that advertised a "Free iPod, Plasma TV, or a Free Computer of some sort" and if you clicked on this link for the "Free Computer"...it takes you to the right place, however if you realize it's not what you need, want or qualify (ie: having a credit card as a condition) and back out, the fact that you clicked on the link is enough for you to get charged...NO MATTER WHAT. So if you're NOT a nervous norvis like myself...you'll get charged because you probably don't think to look at each charge on your bill...as long as the monthly fee is not TOO outrageous you probably did what everyone else does and paid the minimal $16.90 figuring "big deal...what is a lousy $17.00?"...well, you are saying that, I WAS saying that and NOW everyone is being charged $17-$20 apiece and OAN is making a fortune...so be safe...avoid pyramids (Dick Clark or not) and if you don't READ your bill carefully every month..they are making a killing off of you and me and John Doe down the street...not bad if you're the one running the OAN website...lol.
Don't believe me about the phone company though, go to the Better Business Bureau for your city and state and see how well your phone company fares. Good Luck. |

Joslin, are you familiar with paypal or stormpay. You can't get charged automatically, because you have a balance on stormpay/paypal and the only way money can be taken out is if you sign in and put some money in your balance, then send it out to an email address(and you have to sign in so many times and theres all these safety and rpecaution stuff that makes it impossible to make an accidental payment). Getgiftsforfree uses stormpay and paypal and they do NOT have your credit card so they can't charge you out of nowhere.

Somehow I'd say that if there's an ad here (which this is) Alex should get paid. But he doesn't get paid so I'd say: get rid of the links Alex. Charging 40 bucks for 10 bucks of merchandise.....yuk.
I found a pic on their own site of those signal enhancers with a clearly visible price tag og $19.99.

|

Nicolas,
Yes I am familiar with paypal...although not with stormpay. However the purpose of my rather loquacious story was not about HOW I was charged...I don't have one credit card in my name...but simply that I WAS charged even though I never, ever clicked on a link. Someone else was using my computer (w/ my permission) and I had forgotten to log out before signing out thereby leaving me logged on. They were the one that clicked on the link (as I said I don't waste my time on pyramid schemes) and they are the ones who registered for the product in order to receive their "free" gift. They used their own information however since I am connected via dial up and I pay for my ISP service via phone bill...I got charged. Even though nothing was downloaded to my computer as I was told by the Customer Service Rep of their own company. I am simply trying to warn people of the ways they can mess up your credit and/or run up your bills without your knowledge. I was under the impression that that is what this site was about...to let people know if you are aware of a scam. Perhaps I was mistaken. Sorry. |

www.boosters.dk
that is what both website sell. Each booster has a 19.99 value. Alot of other websites exist... what about freeipods.com, freephotoipods.com, mp3players4free.com, mobilesandmore4u.co.uk, ipones.com... they are all the same. You buy something and you get added on a free gift list. It will take a long time for the FTC to go across each website and determine if they are legit or not. Anyhow regular pyramidal and matrix websites (like gotmatrix.com) will probably go down first when they'll start investigating. |

I have not personally used either website but if you do the math, they can still turn huge profits even if they do give out those gifts. These websites work just like the companies that recuirt high schools kids to sell knives, they want you to talk your friends and family into buying a "bogus" product. Now I am not saying the boosters dont work, they probably do bit they are not worth $40.
I commend to websites though they are making profit by doing nothing, they are having "members" do their work in the quest for the all American dream ---Something for nothing--
Americans as a whole fall for it and these websites are raking in the profits. So I say BRAVO!! And good luck, and let me know when you go public I would buy stock in you guys any day. |
