Amish in the City

I checked out that first episode of Amish in the City just to see what it was about. I soon discovered something that made me believe that it was fake within the first 30 min. The Amish girls had tans!
I do believe how ever that one of them really is Amish, a guy that is kinda chunky. I grew up around Amish people in Windsor, MO. They seem to have a accent that is different then ours. They also have large forarms as well. The Chubby guy had both, so I assume he just might be real. And he doesn't seem to be that bright.
Needles to say, I changed the channel, I was kinda pissed.

I dont agree with alot that they do , so i wont sugar coat them. BTW i think you should go to the mall all decked out amish lol |

I am going to do that!!!! I just have to get my hands on one of their outfits - which means I will need to have someone sew it for me. I hated that poop smell when I first moved here too. I learned to distinguish between cow, horse, chicken, you name it - but I have been here for 13 years and now I just kind of love it because this place is so special and the stinky just means re-birth and new life. They could definitely wipe their boots before going into Symposium! That's a pretty nice place :~) OH! I'd need a head covering too. Which sect shall I go as? Mennonite, plain Amish, Piker, Dunkard???? :~) |

Okay...so someone chooses to live differently than you. I have had to deal w/ plenty of nasty people, but I never blamed them for it. It's the way they choose to live. If you wanted to wear a pink scarf every day of your live...would you want someone who detested pink to tell you to drop dead, or take it off b/c they didn't like it?
There are a lot of "perfumes" that simply make my head ache & my stomach turn. Some of them are perfectly expensive scents. I just don't like it. I'm not going to make fun of the person for wearing it. Take cinnamon for instance. I can't stand it. I don't mind cooking with it...but the candles, the incense, the sprays & mists...GAG me with a spoon! I can't stand the smell of cinnamon. A lot of people use cinnamon in holiday scents around their home. Do I tell them person I'm going to leave b/c I can't take it? No. I breathe a little more deeply through my mouth & swallow my unhappiness.
I'm just saying you can't judge someone because YOU FEEL they aren't living up to their own standards. |

Maegan, as i asked, do you deal with the Amish? You are preeching up the wrong tree. Peoplehave been treated diff,. because of their race, religion and beliefs for centuries, but this is diff. These alot of amisg molest their children, grandchildren, and brothers or sister. You think this is ok?Im gladyou think insest is ok. You are sick. Yoiu know what the church think is a fair settlement for rape? 6 weeks without church, the same as getting drunk. Yea thats fair. Women in the AMish community, have NO VOICE. The men rape their wifes, sack them and the chikdren when they dont do something that is obeyed. Im glad you are sitting here defending aLL THESE points i have mad. I hope it makes you sleep well at night |

Melissa AMEN. I know nurses who work in Ephrata hospital and they hate when Amish women have their babies there - as they are obviously ill to not have it at home. The husbands climg in bed with the wives immediately after childbirth to resume their carnal relations. Also I have heard from several sources - altjough I cannot verify - that many Amish Fathers "break in" their daughters before marriage. They are a very strange sect. YES, they take bad rap but how is this Maegan reading into this discussion that they are openly ridiculed? That never happens. Never. Please Maegan - you cannot continue to take it personally that 2 English people who live among the Amish are sharing a chuckle over them. They live up to their own standards, no one else's and no one expects them to live differntly than they do. They are very complex and it always good to discuss them since they are SO different. You can't possibly imagine how different they are until you live among them. |

I'm not defending incest, rape, or abuse. You are basically discriminating on the basis of religion. Lots of people who are NOT Amish are rapists, murderers & the like.
I'm ONLY saying you can't say you dislike them solely because their religion & way of life are different than yours. Disklike them b/c they rape their wives & beat their children. Not because they are Amish. |

I am glad that helped. They are not discriminated against at all, ever. They are very highly respected. The English get annoyed sometimes by the horses and buggies - seems no one can share the road! But they are not ever, in any way discriminated against. In fact we are often very protective of them and their way of life - such as when the local politicians tried to stop Amish In The City from being produced because it was expoitative to their unique way of life.
You should visit Lancaster County sometime and see our way of life up close. I moved here because I found it so peaceful and spiritual. It get a little "touristy" but there are some very genuine experiences one can have. Take good care! |

Are there any updates on if any of the Amish left the church? Growing up in Indiana, I am very familiar with Amish. I loved the show and often wondered what happened to Mose and the Amish girls. Does anyone know?? |
