Unfortunate Last Names
I've always thought my last name was pretty bad. And I mean that in the literal sense. 'Boese' means 'bad' (or angry) in German. But its meaning wouldn't matter much if only English-speaking people could pronounce it (it's 'burr-za', as if it had an 'r' in it... not 'boose'). But I shouldn't feel too sorry for myself, because this guy in Brazil, Mr. Reinhardt Adolfo Fuck, has me beat hands down. As far as I can tell, that really is his name. He must get endless jokes about it.

I went to school with twin boys, their names were Lemonjello, and Orangejello. Spelled like jello, but pronounced La-Mon-jell-oh and Or-on-jell-o. Wonder if their mom craved jello when pregnant?

Few people would know that the young film star River Phoenix actually started life out with the name River Bottom. He along with his brothers changed their name to from Bottom to Phoenix which sounds a lot better and more glamorous don't it?

In New Zealand we ahave a war hero called Charles Upham and many you boys were named after him. In my home town we had such a young man. Not so bad but his last name was McCracken, thus Upham McCracken. Not as bad his brother Philip (Phil)McCracken. Cruel, cruel parents!

Very true name. One of my first arrests as a young Police Officer. The guys name was Annis Royal Annis. He claimed he was Swedish but his southern accent was worse than mine. His parents must have loved him at first sight!

My Dad went to school in the 30's with three buddies whose names were: Ty Pott, Sy Butt and Pookie Lukus. I'll never forget them, as Dad always made us laugh when we were sad by telling us stories of their escapades together and of course repeating their names.

Growing up, I spent summers with my grandmother in the small town she lived in her whole life. Because we have a large number of family and friends in the area we ended up at someones funeral at least twice a year. They were always at the local funeral home named after the family that owned it: Roach Mortuary.

"Iron Chef" host Takeshi Kaga can be embarrased in Spanish speaking countries because the word "caga" means "shit". Also there is a famous actress in Japan called Mariko Kaga. Her hobby is traveling. But I wouldn't recommend her to come to South America where her name will turn out to be "Queer Shit".

This name however not common but is regular in Turkish, the young engineering student Oral Taker goes to US for a Masters Degree, there he understands he possesses an unlucky name. Did his parents think of that I wonder. I guess no.

My friend's relative, Mark Guzzler, joined the Navy. I'm sure he got a few jokes about being known as "Seaman Guzzler" while on duty.

I had a high school classmate named Amy Dick who was reported to be a relative expert on the subject of felatio. Unfortunately, I never had a chance to experience her expertise personally, but her father's name was the real kicker. He was a physician who specialized in urology named Richard and he's in the white pages for Des Moines, IA. Can't you just hear the page at his hospital of residency? "Dr. Dick, Dr. Dick Dick, report to urology. Stat!" Too funny!

The urologist named Dick Dick was pretty good. What about a urologist named Peter, of whom there are several? What were they thinking when they chose their specialty? Also, there is at least one urologist named Peter in the town of Flushing, NY.

There is a family in St Paul, MN with the last name of Gay. Not altogether humourous by itself until you learn of their family business. If you drive down Rice street north of downtown St Paul you will pass their store - the sign says "Gay's Hardware". I called them one day to inquire about their wares and can tell you that they do NOT sell hancuffs or dildos. Sorry!

It must have been a real personal dilema for Dr Dick when he realized in medical school that his main interest was in urology. I suppose he could have changed his name, but according to a couple of Amy's friends, his name actually helped his private practice. I suppose it's like free adverising in a way.
On another subject, a pal in college told me of a couple of Michael Hunt listings in the Chicago area phone book. That's always a good one.

It's a shame Dr Dick and a dentist, once stationed in Cold Lake, Alberta, didn't get together and open a Urology practice.
The dentist's name? Major Leek.

Throughout my life, I have had cause to visit various doctors in various locations. Most memorable last names of the doctors are (but not in any particular order): Dr Fever, Dr Payne, Dr Dyer and Dr Death (pronounced "deeth").
Good thing they never opened a practice together. The ominous "clinic" name would probably be more than even the least superstitious person could stand.
