Brillante Weblog Premio
Status: Viral gimmick
Surf around the web enough and you'll notice a lot of sites that have announced they're the recipients of a "Brillante Weblog Premio" award. (Google "Brillante Weblog" and you'll see what I mean.)Just to clue in anyone who might be confused -- this is not a real award. It's a viral nuisance. The gimmick is that you receive this award from a friend. Accompanying the award are these rules:
1. The winner can put the logo on his/her blog.
2. Link to the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Put links to those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of the people you have nominated.
2. Link to the person you received your award from.
3. Nominate at least 7 other blogs.
4. Put links to those blogs on yours.
5. Leave a message on the blogs of the people you have nominated.
In this way, the award keeps circulating endlessly.
There are real "Brillante Awards for Excellence" awarded by the National Society of Hispanic MBAs, but they're not related in any way to the "Brillante Weblog Premio" award. (via Heart and Hands)

So it's like a chain letter of bullshit.

Cranky, you say that as if there were some other kind of chain letter.

It's a HIDEOUS looking award. It looks about as real as a ring you'd get in a box of Cracker Jack...

I think you need to chill on this. There is no nuisance element to this and to the extent that it is passed on from one blogger to the next, it is not even a hoax. Maybe you're the only one who actually thought it was a prestigious something?!

Well, intended or not, this thing has taken on a life of its own, in a positive sense. It seems to have become a way for people to show other bloggers some appreciation. No prize money? No national or international organisation or press coverage? So what?

I hate doing these 'awards' myself. But I honor them everytime someone passes these on to me. Most of the time the 'awarder' is a bloggerfriend. I received the brilliant weblog award a few days back and (I believe) I have done it with panache.
