True or False: Did Stefan Sigmond of Transylvania gain the world record for smoking by smoking 800 cigarettes in less than six minutes? If I hadn't seen the picture I wouldn't have believed it was possible, but apparently it is true, although I'm a bit wary about whether using this 'special wheel-like device' should really count. It doesn't seem like you would be fully smoking all the cigarettes. Anyway, I hate smoking, but I'd love to see someone whip out a device like this at a bar and start puffing away. (via

For smoking stuff other than tobacco, I might be a contender, since I was in central Alaska last summer during the largest forest fire on record, and couldn't help inhaling several tons of the local flora.
does that guy smoke a crate a day?
Wow, another example of what PC times we live in! I guess competive eaters are unaware of the new anti-gluttony clause because we now have 'competive eating' qualifying as a sport!
And I'm all for gluttony, but how GROSS is competitive eating?! I worked @ a film festival last year where this movie 'Zen & the Art of Competitive Eating' premired. The star of the movie would show up at parties and other screenings as if he was a bonafide celebrity. He was a nice person but I just couldn't distance myself from the fact that he does stuff like inhale dozens of hardboiled eggs in a matter of minutes. Seeing him just made me want to projectile vomit.
That doesn't really make it any less disgusting, but somehow it makes it a bit more bizarre.
I'm wondering where you're getting those statistics, because they sound like pure baloney.
I also notice that those stats only cover lung cancer. Smoking can also cause heart disease, mouth cancer, and throat cancer, as well as contributing to more or less every other kind of possible cancer, since tobacco is full of carcinogens. How many people die of those instead? Lung cancer isn't the only problem smoking causes that can kill you, in other words.
Isn't it amazing that people have to be *told* that inhaling smoke is bad for you? Even back before warning labels were mandatory, you'd think people would have had a clue.
"Several decades ago, well three at least, Guiness banned such stunts as laying in a bathtub covered in ice for safety reasons. This sort of stunt should have been banned back then."
Hey, Guinness banning something doesn't mean you can't do it. It just means the Guinness people won't put it in their book.
Another one of those psychology dissertations in search of a grad student would be why anybody would want to be the world record holder for some monumentally stupid behavior.
800 Cigs * 2 mg/cig (arbitrary, the site I'm using, http://www.nicotrol.com/patch/index.asp , lists 1-3 mg per cig)
=1600 mg
Lets say there are 25 drags on a cigarette.
1600/25=
64 mg of nicotine per drag.
So, even if this guy were to take ONE DRAG off of this AND INHALE, he'd propbably hit the ground pretty damned quick. The symptoms of nicotine poisoning are here: http://www.umm.edu/ency/article/002510sym.htm
Why is my record not on the website?"
There are more than 30,000 record categories in our database, and only a proportion of these records can feature on the website. We currently house about 3,000 records online, but we'll be adding more every week, so make sure to check the site regularly.
