The Bermuda Triangle of Cats

Cats are disappearing from the town of Stourbridge in the West Midlands. Up to 40 lost cats have been reported so far, all from the same small neighborhood. Metro.co.uk reports:
The pets disappeared from just a few streets and no signs of any of them have ever been found. Some families lost as many as three cats, one after the other.
But there is one resident who, like others in the town of Stourbridge, refuses to believe it's just a coincidence.
'It really is a bit of a Bermuda Triangle for cats,' said Julie Wottoon. She has started a campaign to try to solve the mystery after her cat, 15-year-old Norman, went missing in May.
She has drawn up a list of the vanished felines in the hope of finding some clues.
It reminds me of that bridge in Scotland I posted about two years ago, which dogs keep leaping off of, apparently to commit suicide. Perhaps the cats of Stourbridge have gotten tired of life in the town and are wandering off to find new homes. Unlikely. Or perhaps there's a cat-napper in the area. Or perhaps it's just a statistical fluke.

This is not uncommon, we had something similar where I live a year or so ago, with several cats disappearing over a short period from the local area.

It turned out they were getting into a recently vacated house but were unable to get out again. The trap was eventually discovered after several complaints about the smell.

This rumour pops up in various places every so often - it's usually explained as group of people stealing cats to make fur coats. I'm surprised that explaination hasn't come up yet.

If course, being cats, it could just be that they're trying to freak us out, and they'll turn up in a week's time, looking smug.

If this happened in the USA, I'd say coyotes got them but coyotes haven't made it to the UK yet. Here in Tucson there are always flyers posted about missing dogs and cats. Small ones, easy prey for coyotes.

Perhaps there's a predator of some kind there, such as a pack of stray dogs? Here in the States I'd say a coyote or pair.

Back when I was younger, there was a similar incident... Turned out some lady was eating cats because the poverty was so bad in that place (in Tijuana, Mexico, by the way).

There was also an unrelated incident of street vendors selling dog meat as beef.

I remind you these are rare incidents; it's totally safe for you and your beloved pets to come to Mexico 😉

I've never heard of coyotes in the Britain, but I believe they do have owls, and I've heard of owls nabbing cats (mostly at night, of course). One piece I read on this said that the victims tend to be black-and-white cats because they look like skunks to the owls, and (according to that writer) owls often hint for skunks.

It probably scientific research, if you check out the peta website you'll read stories and watch vids of reserch centres having hick trap teams in big unmarked vans indiscriminately trapping cats in residential areas to bring in resources as they cant rear them for it.

Then they do as they wish with them sell them to medical centres, or some are embalmed alive so they can be sent to veteranary universities and schools for study and dissection.

Horrified mne to watch those vids, you'll see all the caged cats some with collars on being beaten and mummified alive! put the fear in me, my cat aint goin out that front door anymore!

thinking about it, if they've been getting away with it for years, it probably targeted as being one of the best areas for mass collection. Someone is rolling in it somewhere paying his desensitized goons pittens as its probably a lucrative business as most blackmarkets are.
