Springtime in Arkham

image This should appeal to all H.P. Lovecraft fans. It's Springtime in Arkham, a collection of scents inspired by the world of Lovecraft. For only $155 you can buy the entire set, sold together as the 'Gibbering Madness Pack: More eternal evil than you can shake a stick at'. The fact that these are only available from April 1 to June 1 makes it all seem a little like an April Fool's day joke, but I think they're quite real. I'm actually tempted to buy the CTHULHU scent: A creeping, wet, slithering scent, dripping with seaweed, oceanic plants and dark, unfathomable waters.

Definitely something I would buy if I were rich.

Alex, if you buy that stuff, you got to mail me a sample. Just spray some on a dollar bill and mail it to me.

Better yet, a $155 dollar bill.

Slowly, the gaping maw of Agh-Argh-Ack opened, and his spiked tentacles thrust Stephen into its endless depths. Flames lept about the room, and the howl of Hell's Chorus of The Damned rose in a deafening roar, as the foundations of the cursed old mansion crumbled beneath them, swallowing Stephen and the Great Snot God forever... if you enter the site, at the bottom of the Welcome page you will see:

UPDATED: April Fool's Day, 2005. 2am, or thereabouts.

What I found most perplexing were the links to charities:

A portion of the profits will be donated to the following charities in an effort to boost our fundraising efforts: Safe Haven For Donkeys in the Holy Land, Bat Conservation International, the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund, the Adopt-A-Native-Elder Program, and the Animal Assistance League of Orange County.

These charities sound kinda bogus on the face of it, but upon examination actually appear legit. An amusing twist.

I think Bat Conservation International is a real and legitimate organization.
I haven't heard of any of the others.

The Comic Book Legal Defense Fund is definitely a real charity, so is Bat Conservation International.
(I guess it says a lot about me, that I'm familiar with these two groups, come to think of it.) };-)

BTW, The individual scents are only(?) fifteen bucks a pop.
5 ml in a blue glass bottle, that's what, like 5 drops?
(Just looked it up, it's equal to 0.17 ounces, American.)

That's the same size as those tiny little tubes Avon ladies give out for free. (I used to sell Avon, can you believe it?)

Yes. Yes I can. It explains so much.

Winona, so did I when I was in my early teens. It wasn't the coolest job, or the best way to make money, but I enjoyed the special offers I got!

Chary: 😠

Boo: yep, the money sucks, but I saved money on tons of stuff. And I was the coolest Avon lady in the district, lol. (Or at least the only one with purple hair for a short period of time)

Ha! I was the only one with pink hair.
😊

Cap'n Daft, 5 ml. is very close to one teaspoon in American liquid measure.
Depending on how strong the scent is, it would be enough for anywhere from one to a few uses. At $15, that seems pretty expensive to me, but then I don't buy much perfume.

Black Phoenix is a real parfume company. The reason their parfumes are so expensive is because they are pure oils rather than mixed with distilled water or alcohol. They have a distinct morbid/literary/mythological theme for most of their scents, so the lovecraft line could very well be real. 😊

I have only just found this site and yes, I can assure you that Safe Haven for Donkeys in the Holy Land does exist! It is a British charity, working in Israel and the Palestinian Territories, which not only cares for tortured and abandoned donkeys but which also provides free veterinary care for working donkeys, animals which are absolutely vital to their owners.

Check out http://www.safehaven4donkeys.org for more information!

I have, in fact, purchased one of the perfumes from the "springtime in arkham" line, though just this year. It must have been a leftover. Quite nice.
