Long Hair

A Chinese doctor hasn't cut his hair in more than 60 years. He says doing so is responsible for the health of his patients. I'm sure there's a name for this logical fallacy, but I'm not sure what it is. [Daily Express (with pic of long-haired doc)]

cum hoc ergo propter hoc.
Correllation does not imply causation.

Basically, assuming that something happens because of something else that happens at the same time.

Umm the term is "The Wisdom Of The Ancients".

There is also the argument the traditional Chinese medicos have that people whose birth years end in 0 or 1 in the CE calendar, which correspond to the two years of the Cycle of Elements where Wood appears ( Yes, there is a two tier Astrology in Chinese belief - the animals, and the four elements, Wood, Fire, Water and Iron ) cannot be treated for lung disease, since they will be weak in that organ system and will die of it anyway.

When Western doctors object, the smug Traditioanlists point to the statistics that show of all their patients, 90% of TB deaths are among those very people. The Western argument that if you don't treat theses people then of course they will die is dismissed by two further points -

1. Why waste so much money and precious medicines on peopll who are going to die?

2. If Western medical chemicals are so superior, why are so many people in the West turning away from them to Chinese herbals?

. . . And Viagra was supposed to save the tiger and such animals; Do you know a single tree-hugger who doesn't use Chinese medicine in some way? Now, there's stupidity and hypocrisy in one package.
