Elephant Toilet

A series of pictures (click to enlarge) shows an elephant using an oversized toilet. Supposedly this potty-trained elephant, named Diew, lives in an elephant camp in Thailand. His handlers have taught him and a few other elephants to use flush toilets in order to cut down on the waste problem. Of course, it's hard to know if the elephant is really using the toilet, or if it's simply sitting down on it and then pulling a cord. The Salt Lake Tribune reports that these images first appeared in Bangkok's The Nation in January, and have been circulating around the internet ever since then. (via Image of the Day)

Elephants are smart. I mean, they figured out how to go 'round and 'round in a little circle at Ringling Bros...I'm sure they can learn how to sit. (Though, as to whether or not they do their duties INTO that thing is a little unbelievable...I mean, how the hell would a BOY elephant be able to stand on his hind legs long enough to go??) 😊

I'm also dubious about whether the elephant could be trained to always go in the toilet. Maybe it'll go in there when the trainer tells it to go in there, but the rest of the time it probably goes wherever, as it's accustomed to doing. I think it's a gimmick they've dreamed up for tourists.

This reminds me of a book I once bought entitled, "Toilet Train Your Cat." My cat flunked the training, though.

Having once held third-row seats at a Ringling Bros. show, I can only wish they had PachyPotties back then. I don't know what was worse: the coconuts coming out of the elephants ot the clowns that scooped them up...

I thought that was funniest part. My husband's family is full of carnies...I've always been forced to go to the shows. I got a little bit of happiness watching them pick up huge poo.

Yes I have seen this on "Ripleys beleive it or not" tv show. They had live action video of it using the toilet.
