Eric Bruderton

image A guy calling himself Eric Bruderton has some dramatic footage up on his website of people (soldiers or mercenaries? It's hard to tell) being attacked by unseen assailants wielding rocket-propelled grenades. Bruderton himself admits he doesn't know what the footage is about. As he writes, "I don’t know these people, I don’t know who’s shooting at them and I don’t know why they are being targeted. I don’t even know where they are. Maybe the Middle East." But he insists that the footage is important, and that he has somehow put himself in danger by making the footage publicly available. The whole thing reeks of a Blair-Witch-style publicity stunt. But the footage, if it is staged (which I'm guessing it is), is pretty high production value. (the video takes about 20 or 30 seconds to load). (via Chapel Perilous)

The footage is from a independent movie called "The September Tapes" It's a Blair Witch type story where some reporter goes to Afganistan after Sept. 11 and gets kidnapped, the "Tapes" are found later.

It was the first movie shot in Afganistan after the war started and apparently the US kept the footage for a few weeks and still hasn't released all of it to the film makers.

The movie comes out this August.

This is the official site:
http://www.septembertapes.com/

These are links I found that have more information on the movie:

So, the film was shot in Afghanistan? I think it was shot somewhere else, because the writing on the poster that appears close to the end, where an RPG hits the road, is written in what looks like Sanskrit. Though there are a lot of Hindus in Afghanistan, I don't believe anyone uses that alphabet there. The architecture also looks a little off for Afghanistan. I think it was shot in India. 😊

Could be, I'm no expert, just saying what I found in the links about the movie. Having never been to India or Afganistan I really would have no clue what either would look like. 😊 I'm often wrong about things. ::Chuckles::

At first glance it looks like Irag footage of US soldiers dressed and armed as Iragi's. But they don't look Iragi they look like Actors. The odd thing is their was no gun fight. It looks to be strictly hand to hand and RPG from that jeep following them.

Could also be a promo for the aliens vs predator movie. A military group being attacked by an unseen force. Just a thought.

This guy is boned if he is what he says he is. There is a lot of free sponsered stuff on the page, which makes me think that it's not too creditable.

Thanks Kate! This new info has been duly noted at Chapel.

This was shot in India. Check the devagari script on the wall, that is Hindi, and note the curious onlookers as the jeep speeds away, making no attempt to duck bullets, RPGs. Probably staged by wannabe soldiers.

GUYS - read the posts below. It's from a movie called "The September Tapes". It was shot solely in Afghantistan, the first American film production there since the fall of the taliban:

I never realized the India thing until now (I have been going nuts trying to figure this thing out for three days now) but when I saw the full trailer on the September Tapes website, there was clearly footage of Afghanistan on there with same guys from this clip. I guess they could have gone to both places?? Still...it all looks pretty damn cool to me.

looks low grade to me. The rifle the guy is waving around isn't even a real AK. It's some sort of .22 caliber knockoff. You would think they could come up with some realistic prop weapons.

Tsss, it's just (bad) fake.
AK cal.22, fx rpg shots prove that)

this is fake, and shot in India, can tell from an advert on the wall written in Hindi.

Now if it was shot in Pakistan then maybe u could believe this.

the rpg's look too real, it looks really fake to me!

yeah, its shot almost completely in Kabul, and 100% in afghanistan... first film shot in an active warzone.

I wonder what is in those tapes that the Gov. is keeping from the filmmakers.

I'm a reporter for the business radio show Marketplace, heard around the country on NPR. I'm working on a story about the advertizing campaign for The September Tapes. If you have strong opinions about the ad campaign, I'd like to chat. And perhaps do a short telephone interview. I can be reached at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).
Thanks

This is a movie, it's pure fiction including the crap about the state department. All Hollywood hype and no truth to the story at all. suckers!

ive just been to India and it seems to be shot in pretty similar terrain to Rajesthan, West India. However, most of the people are Islamic in the film rather than Hindu and the streets are too spread out. However, where ever its shot it is obviously staged. A poster is nothing to go on but it is badly acted and the story is way too Hollywood. The guy who made it is just trying to be a hero adn he obviously has no idea about war, politics or any other culture apart from that of America- just like Bush himself.

I search in the official website (septembertapes) where the video is and I noticed the footage happens in Afghanistan but also in Pakistan. Pakistan happened to be an India provincia so I tink it's shot in Pakistan. Notice too that the guys speak english so the are the american reporters which are tell about in the official website.

I believe it is real. Of course people dont want to admit our government is a joke and have been in the region I believe it is genuine. Wake up people do the research on this man.

This footage is indeed faked!

Well, hate to pop anyones fantasy bubble about this footage, but its all fake, and not real combat footage.

Firstly, RPG rockets don't leave smoke trails, as the propellent is expended before it leaves the end of the launcher.

Secondly, the AKs used are props, as the magazines are too narrow and skinny, there is no cocking handles, no rear sights, or even a safety catch, plus the gas blocks and front sights are not correct. The butt stocks too are not correct in their manufacture. Thats what tipped me, for anyone else who knows this eqpt, do a frame by frame advance, and you'll see axactly what I mean. They don't even shoot back, some of the explosions are too 'wet' as HE is much quicker, and not as 'gassy'

Who am I, well, just another guy on the INet, but I have over 30yrs of experience in two armies, and I have used all the equiment shown here for real(except it was an earlier RPG2 and not an RPG7), but the US designed M72/66mm HEAT rocket works on the same principle, no smoke trails from that either. Anyways google L1A1 armourer and check my site out to see who I am and check out my credentials.

The footage is good though, and definatly half fooled me at first, even with the smoke trails on the RPG HEAT rockets.

Regards from Australia,

Wes (AKA 1feral1)

This footage is pretty shocking and captures the chaos of war. Closest thing I have seen to this is the American Army mmorpg game where rockets are flying and people are yelling..much different in real life.
