Just to be picky that's a picture of an ape in the article, not a monkey. And, although I didn't see it specifically mentioned in the article, I would imagine that it was apes they were concerned as apes are far more intelligent and closer, evolutionarily, to humans than monkeys.
Is 'evolutionarily' a word? |

Charybdis, the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chimp">chimp</a> is the closest living relative to humans alive today. However, recently my dad showed me that one can technically call a toad a frog; therefore it would seem to me that maybe we can also (though not with zoological correctness) call both apes and monkeys 'monkeys.' |

That's okay. I learned long ago that people who actually deal with these animals get rather frustrated with all the people who call chimps monkeys. It's one of those things that specialists care about, but most people don't. I've always been careful, unless trying to irritate someone purposely, to call them apes instead. |

sadfdfg - are you actually reading the article, because you're way off-topic here. |

There was just a show on the Discovery
Channel (the web site doesn't say when,
or if it will be on again):
Humanimals: Wild Makeovers
Some people undergo extreme body modification
procedures to turn parts of their bodies into
animal features. Lizard Man created a forked
tongue, Enigma grafted horns on to his head, and
Cat Man tattooed his body with head-to-toe
stripes. |

dont you think these freaks would just love to insert some animal stem cells into their nut? |

This has to do with inserting human stem cells into chimps, not the other way 'round. I doubt that enough serious research would ever go into the idea of implanting animal stem cells into humans for it to even be feasable illegally, it's just too morally iffy, and pointless. |

but your point does make me wonder about animal organ implants. how is it feasable is it just too morally iffy? |

Actually, people with weak hearts already have pig...whatchamacallums... the thing that directs the flow of blood in your heart. But if you're talking about having an actual animal limb grafted on, or having animal stem cells put into a human brain to be more animal, that sounds too extreme to ever be investigated. |

Charybdis, the chimp is the closest living relative to humans alive today. - Chary
Chary, there actually is a small group of dissenting scientists led by Jeffrey H. Schwartz who claim the Orang-Utan is the closest living relative. see ehis book
Personally, I feel GWB is the closest living relative.<a href="http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0395380170/qid=1121508154/202-4621668-5828649">here</a> ; The Red Ape: Orang-Utans and Human Origins |

Citizen summed up my first reaction to this article...And lest we forget:
<i>"Where there is fire, there is smoke. And in that smoke, from this day forward, my people will crouch and conspire and plot and plan for the inevitable day of Man's downfall - the day when he finally and self-destructively turns his weapons against his own kind. The day of the writing in the sky, when your cities lie buried under radioactive rubble! When the sea is a dead sea, and the land is a wasteland out of which *I* will lead my people from their captivity! And we will build our own cities in which there will be no place for humans except to serve our ends! And we shall found our own armies, our own religion, our own dynasty! And that day is upon you NOW!"</i> |

I'd grow my own Bigfoot. Hell, I'd do a whole crop.
