Hi
I saw this on the news last night. There is a link to this story at:
http://www.thesundaymail.news.com.au/common/story_page/0,5936,15800850%255E2765,00.html
What happened was this drunken 18 year old man jumped the fence at a horse race and ran up close to the horses as they went passed. He could've gotten himself killed as well as caused a serious accident for the jockeys and their horses. He's been arrested and I hope they throw the book at him

Didn't some woman do the same thing once. My memory of history lessons is kinda sketchy (I don't take it anymore) but I seem to remember a woman running out in front of horses to promote womes rights. Think it was before the war. She wore a black coat with a dress with the colours of her group thing on hidded so they didn't see them 'till they went to see if she was OK (which she wasnt)
Anyone got a link? |

never mind, got one:
<a href="http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/Wdavison.htm">Emily Wilding Davidson</a>
'...In June, 1913, at the most important race of the year, the Derby, Emily ran out on the course and attempted to grab the bridle of Anmer, a horse owned by King George V. The horse hit Emily and the impact fractured her skull and she died without regaining consciousness.
Although many suffragettes endangered their lives by hunger strikes, Emily Davison was the only one who deliberately risked death. However, her actions did not have the desired impact on the general public. They appeared to be more concerned with the health of the horse and jockey and Davison was condemned as a mentally ill fanatic.' |

No, I thought I heard someone had done this recently...I didn't know about this Emily person. (I guess I'm one of those backward women who spends all my time taking care of my family to really dig into suffrage history.)
Anywho...I'd be freaked out by all the poop. |
