Flaming Boomerangs

Hi
I don't know if this is true or if it's just some urban legend. It has to do with cultural misunderstanding resulting in something quite laughable.
We Australians often use the word "flaming" (or flamin') as a kind of pseudo swear word. So instead of saying "that &&&&&& car" we would say "that flamin' car". Or at least the older members of Australian society would use that word.
I once heard a story of an early American film effort to do a movie about Australian history. Some American asked the Australians what the Australian Aborigines used to fight the European settlers with. Naturally enough one Australian said "They used flamin' boomerangs".
And so the Americans made a movie that had scenes of Australian Aborigines (?) who literally were thowing "flaming boomerangs".
If anybody can find evidence of such a thing happening in a movie I'd be most interested to know about it
Have fun

Peter...any add'l info? Like what time frame this was...or why someone would refer to a boomerang as 'flamin' when answering a simple question?
(Well, only b/c I might say "my DAMN car won't start", but if someone asks me what I drive, I'd never say "a damn car".) |

You'd have to understand the Australian psyche to know why we'd say "a flamin' boomerang". It's just the way a lot of us speak
As for time frame, I have no idea. Sorry. I'm just assuming it was in the old black and white days of cinema. It just seemed like such an anecdotal example of silliness that I thought somebody might have heard something about it if it were true

I skipped past anything that started after 1990, but I didn't see anything with flaming boomerangs in it. A couple titles directly about Aboriginal culture or life. |
