Im not one to talk about celebs cause I could care less. I bring this up bacause the woman is a powerful powerful person that commands the respect of millions of people. It seems to be whatever Oprah says, her general public will do. I can only dream of such power. But anyway, do you realize how much damage can be done to this store if she felt offended??????? WoW!!!! She could destroy the McDonalds empire in a month if she really tried.

Gee, the store was closed and she was told to come back the next day. The surveilance tape seems to back that up, so what's the big deal?
Oh, her name is OPRAH, not OPERA. |

Yeah but the media was trying to get the "Racial" thing going....Also alot of stores allow celebs, like her, in after hours to avoid the general public. |

I'm sorry Boo, I have that affect on women. Wait until you meet me.
The whole racial thing does seem to be a media creation so far. As for letting her in after hours, they had a private function going on so couldn't be expected to cater to her, not that she necessarily expected that. |

This is stupid the 'issue' seems to stemming from the media, rather than parties involved. |

I am going to call CNN next time I am refused entry at my local super market after closing hour. See whether they spend an internet page on it too... |

Well, looks like an 'anti-capitalist', that shop owner... When I see Oprah just only point at my store I know my working days are over!
Everybody knows that woman is a walking fat paycheck when it comes to buying things...
"Eh, honey. I will be late for supper tonight. Yeah, some things at the store. Don't wait for me to go to bed, 'CAUSE I'LL GET LOADED FOR LIFE NOW!"
Well, you get the point... |

The store apologized. They thought she was a POOR black person, in which case slamming the door in her face would be entirely understandable. |

15 minutes. Ive been turned down after 15 seconds. She thinks that she can just walk up to a door and demand that it be opened. I dont care if she is black. Equal treatment right (Black celebs, white bums) doesnt matter. Why doesnt she just buy the damn place walk in get what she wants then sell it she has enough f****** money. |

Someone mentioned that it was only being drummed as a racial issue by the media?
Not true, it was Oprah that did that...
When it happened she barked at the first reporter that would listen and said...
"It was one of my 'Crash' moments..."
She was referencing that movie 'Crash'. Which, I have not seen, so I cannot comment on it. But, I do know, that it is about the 'subtlety' of racism now.
My concern about this type of thing is that. We ALL are descriminated against in 'subtle' ways. Regardless of race. There are times where I know that a pretty person is getting better treatment than I am, I have seen customer service change based on the clothes people are wearing, the accent in their voice.
I have this uncomfortable feeling that since most minority races were brought up with the knowledge that in the past there were some real BLATANT racism... we are now getting down to these types of smaller issues. I think we all have those now and then, for some reason or another. |

How can it be racist to refuse entry to a shop that is closed????
If she was a 'normal' (I don't like that word) person she wouldn't think so.
Also, I don't think 'positive racism' is good either, which is what she seems to be suggesting she wants - that because she is black, she gets special treatment.
I know that probably sounded racist, but if she were a white, non-celebrity, would she still expect the same treatment?
The world does not revolve around her nor anyone else and no-one should expect it to unless they want to be very disappointed. |
