If it really is that big then I would love to see it! (Although not too closely...) Trouble is I can see this being a big hoax. |

If you google it, there are a couple of sites that have it. I also found a link about vegan condoms.
This is my favorie quote from the site though, "A few years ago in the South Pacific, a vast 'reef' of condoms was found floating, slowly and gracefully, in the general direction of Antarctica. The super condom reef is over two miles long and in places up to 60 foot deep. A local oceanography said parts of the reef are so dense 'you could almost land a plane on it.'"
That is intense, we are disgusting animals. |

The problem is that this is supposedly nine years old by now and I can't find anybody who covered it except "unusual news" sites making me think it's an old joke that never went anywhere. |

Oh for sure, but it's like those masses of syringes that wash ashore. I don't think it is that big, but I can see large clumps of condoms floating around the oceans. I mean you can walk down the street and find a bunch of the lying on the ground. |

The baloney meter is off the scale!
By the way, saying "this is nuts, almost literally" made me think you were going to talk about legumes. |

Ladies and Germs, this disgusting Reef O'Rubbers (sorry) is why HHH lives in The Woods where the ground is littered with pinecones, leaves, and chipmunk poop...mix them all together, and it makes a great gift for Any Occasion. Tell a friend |

Am I too late to stake my claim on you? I gather you have had a proposition from Noni already...
Anyway, this is not the place to go into that.
ON topic, I could have sworn I heard this as a lame joke about four years ago. |

This is some thing I can not believe too much... I am thinking this is a hoax, for such a thing could not be...I will not sleep well this night, for I am sickened...the Llamas think this is too funny, but they are drunk, as is their custom...I know greatly of this Baloney Meter, of which Citizen Premier speaks, for I, Raoul, The Man of Great Dimensions, have one in my Chariot of Fire...Rrrraoul |

Well, I can't read the link...I googled "floating condom reef" to see what I'd get. Everything I found quotes the same thing String Bean quoted. Then...I found this:
1996-06-04Competing With the Blobs
Last month we reported that the new "in" place for science tourists to go is/are The Blobs. (The Blobs are giant patches of warm or cold water that lazily drift throughout the North Atlantic, and which have lifetimes of 3-10 years.) Investigator Jim Propp reminds us that a similar tourist attraction exists in the middle of the South Pacific. First brought to the world's
attention last year, it has been described as being a "vast, floating 'reef' of the world's disposed condoms." While the Condom Reef is growing in popularity amongst single science tourists, the Blobs are likely to remain the preferred destination for family vacations.

Did you search for condom reef on Snopes? Because I searched for condom, and couldn't find anything. Hmmph. |

If anyone had any doubts that this was a false story, just try and find a picture of the reef. Something of that much shock value would be all over the internet if it existed.
Just my 2 cents worth!

From the snopes page....
"... but the district has been paying an average of $460 per day for an employee to scoop spent condoms with long-handled nets from tanks at a wastewater treatment plant..."
Wow.. that's like $60 an hour! As gross as it is.... i just might take that job. |

Sorry, but the condom island is an urban myth. It's been around for nearly a decade and the story changes occasionally, lists a series of impressive facts, and is totally BS. But fun.

Perhaps a reading of other comments before you post might be in order. |
