Think about it people.....The show could be similar to Ripley's believe it or not, except that they are proving crazy stuff to be a hoax....I'd watch a show like that. |

But this is not a hoax. I might be on the Paula Zahn show on CNN tonight. Something about the 'Runaway Bride' thing. A camera guy is coming to my house in about an hour to tape an interview with me. My immediate thought was 'Oh no, this means I have to clear all the crap off my desk.' |

I know absolutely nothing about the runaway bride. But what talking heads on tv do know anything about what they're talking about? They wanted a 'hoax expert' so they called me up. |

No money at all. I'm supposed to want to do it for the publicity. My publisher would not be pleased if I turned down opportunities to get on tv. |

In this country (USA), Sharruma, "legitimate" news operations like CNN do NOT pay people for being on them. It's considered unethical. |

Winona, the 'runaway bride kit' is a really cheap shot by that person. (Actually the seller should be shot.) I kinda feel sorry for the poor girl. Why doesn't everybody just leave her alone. The only way this thing might be funny is if it happened to someone like Tammy Fay Baker or Brittany Spears. |

I think people are venting their frustration at getting all worked up over nothing. Of course, the only people who have that right are the ones involved, but you find profiteers anywhere you go. |

I do and I don't feel sorry for her.
If she had called family and said "I'm ok, I just can't do this", there would not have been the worry, the financial outlay in searches etc. To me, it's another example of someone not wanting to take responsibility for their actions.
On the other hand, I do understand her emotions. |

Alex, I think a t.v show would be a cool idea. Maybe you can try and sell the idea to someone. But only as long as it aired over here. I'm not paying the stupid prices for cable for just one show! |

I don't feel bad for her. She FAKED A CRIME. If she had just taken off, and then called her family from a pay phone & said, "I just couldn't TAKE IT ANYMORE!" I'd be fine with that.
She wasted people's time & money. I think she should have to pay for whatever money was spent in police over time, gas for cruisers, the paper used for the missing flyers...
It's her fault that she's got over 500 people coming to her wedding. She's not Catherine Zeta-Jones, why does she think she needs that many people? 14 bridesmaids? It's stupid & extravagant. I'm sorry, I might know 500 people, but I had 7 people at my wedding, other than myself, my husband, and the lawyer that performed the ceremony. (He was notorized...it wasn't just that he was a lawyer...) |

I'm with you on this one, Maegan. I do not care if she ran away; that's between her and her husband-to-be (and whoever cares about the two of them.)
It's the 911 call with its racist nature (she blamed Hispanic men for her "kidnapping") that I object to. It *is* a crime to make a false police report, you know.
If you disagree that she should be prosecuted for it, how about if I come to your town and make a false 911 call, diverting the police away from whatever they may be needed to do? Do you honestly have no problem with that? Besides, as I said, it IS a crime! |

Turns out that she blamed a Hispanic male and Caucasian female for the abduction because that's who she befriended on the bus on her way to Austin, Tx.
http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/05/12/runaway.bride.ap/index.html
They were friendly to her on the trip and in return she followed them to Vegas and then Albequerque. And then used their likenesses to describe her "abductors."
With friends like that... |
