He might be in shock, and he might not actually be able to feel it. I've never broken anything before, but I've heard sometimes it's painless. |

Skater : Hey look, look at my broken arm, look how it dangle.
Person : Holy excrement, I'd better call you and ambulance.
Skater : Multiply that, grab a camera and we'll stick it on the net. I'll be famous.
I love the plaster they stuck on it, like that'll fix it. 😊 |

My hubby was telling me that when he was a kid he was playing chasey and fell over. He got up, didn't notice a thing and kept playing. About 15 minutes later he looked down and his arm was broken and hanging at a wierd angle. Until he noticed it, it didn't hurt. |

Ouch.
I've broken a collarbone when I was small. Don't remember being in pain from it, it was more of the shock of being pushed off the play equipment and hitting the ground that made me bawl my eyes out. |

The camera angle conceals the posibility of seeing whether this is his real arm or one tucked or held in place. I vote fake... |

That was one of my concerns (camera angle/not being able to really see it) |

I was playing on a swing set w/ a kid once. We weren't swinging, we were sort of monkey barring across the top of it. He falls, gets up & says, "I think my arm is broken." I said, "It's not, you goofus!" He walked home & he came back to my house a few days later in a cast.
A little girl I used to babysit came in to her parents one night & was complaining that her leg hurt. Her parents let her lay on the couch & milk it, cuz they figured it would help her to have a patient complex for a while. The next morning, she's supposed to go w/ a friend to Disney. She won't get out of bed & starts crying. Mom makes her WALK & then when the kid gets up & falls over, mom yells at her & tells her she's not going to Disney, if this is how she's going to act. Finally mom actually goes to her, to make her get out of bed, and sees that her child's leg is purple & swollen. Poor kid had a cast from her thigh to her ankle, had to be in a wheelchair for months. So, she walked on it for about 15 minutes with it broken...I dunno. I couldn't actually see the pic in the link.

Poor kid, a teacher in school did that to me too - forced me to walk on a broken leg and it was a broken femur, which is a whole new world of pain. That said I was a terribly accident prone child (and am now a terribly accident prone adult - go figure). I once broke an arm while showing off on my crutches. My poor parents they didnt know what to make of me. |

Well, I couldn't see the video or whatever it was because my computer has personal issues, so I can't tell anything about it being fake or real, or see how they were reacting. Having many times been fractured, punctured, burned, electrocuted, compressed, and otherwise roughly handled, I can say firsthand that you often don't hurt when you're first injured (at other times, of course, you can't do anything other than curl up in a fetal position and bawl your lungs out because of the pain). I don't know if it has anything to do with shock or not, because the one time I remember going into full-scale shock it did actually hurt a bit and I tended to stagger around in a more un-coordinated manner than usual. Maybe there are different levels of shock. |

It's an inert fake arm. Nothing moves at the joints. The entire arm wiggles at the end, but that's the hand under it. The fingers don't move, the wriste doesn't move, the break doesn't move. Try holding your hand perfectly still in that position for ten seconds.
It's fake. Not even a good fake. |

I'm very clumsy but have never broken a bone. I've jammed quite a few fingers though... |

I've seen videos where skaters break their arm like that but they sure didn't sit there smiling to the camera! |

December 2004 was the worst christmas I ever had. I was on holiday with my family on the Isle of White exotic right. I went for a walk by myself. There are some steps going down onto a quiet lane. Not just any steps either 200 of them. You guest it I fell down them. I got about three quaters of the way downs when I hit an icy patch and fell to the bottom. I was in so much pain I couldn't move.I was stuck there on my own. It was agony. I had sharp pains in my arm and my leg I didn't know what to do. I was lying on the bottom step for exactly 1 hour 17minutes. I was rushed to hospital where I was greeted with the news I had broken my tibia in 3 places my fibula in 1 place and my radius in 5 places!!! Or more simply 4 brakes in my leg and 5 brakes in my arm. After 2 operations I was back to normal in 12 weeks.
What a fabulous holiday. |

I was researching broken arms when I came across this thread. My 7 year old son just broke his lower arm (both bones) and that's exactly what it looked like. My understanding from the nurses and Drs in the ER is that is exactly what a double fracture of the lower are looks like and this is a typical fracture for kids.
My son wasn't crying or screaming or anything at all. He was quite composed. In fact so composed that he actually used the arm to grab for his seat belt when we got into the car to go to the ER. He has a very high pain threshold and usually flinches at nothing but this was extreme.
The photo is probaly real. |

They are speaking in norwegian and the cameraman asks if it hurts. The "not-so-good" skater says that "it hurts a little bit" while smiling. |

I actually do think it's real. Look at the darkened skin below. And it's more believable if you understand what they say. |

it is for real. im an orthopedic surgeon, and it is very common to see this shape to the arm with a "both bones" forearm fracture in kids or adolescents. it gets "set" straight, and treated in a cast 6-8 weeks. |

When I was five I fell off a ramp and fractured the radius and ulna in my left arm half way between the wrist and elbow. The bones were broken at a bad angle.
I showed the picutre to my mother. She said that my arm looked very much like the arm in the picture.
I had my arm in a cast and sling for six weeks. I still have a slight bend in my radius and a noticeable bump on my ulna. My arm is a bit weak and does ache at times. |

last week i broke both legs and had to stay in hospital for six days. my arms are broken too. i have a pot on both arms. But unfortunatly i had an operation on my legs because they were broken so badly but the operation didn't go well so i had both legs amputated and now i have to sit in a wheelchair all my life. they cant give me artifcial legs because the ones they had got would not fit on my legs. |

I just broke my arm 2 days ago on a trampoline breaking both bones in the frount of my left arm (Radius and Ulnar) making a snapping noise and making the broken off part go limp at a weirrd angle. so im speaking from experience that in actual fact it didnt hurt at all at first (hard to imagine but true) i was actualy fine and laughing about it for the first 10 minuites of it being broken but then after that it gradualy started hurting more and more yet that did depend also on the way i held it. i beelive that this would be because of the adrennalin rush i got from the accident. |

its definitley real. i fell off some rollerblades when i was 15 and broke my arm just like that it was broken in two places at the exact same angle and i didnt feel a thing. 2 months in a rock hard heavy full arm plaster cast and my arm was back to normal |

Hey, you guys are taking this way to seriously. I broke my exactly like that five weeks ago, I had surgery and am now in a cast. When that happens your fingers kinda contract and stay in that position unless you force them outward, mine still want to stay stiff and like that. Unless you have actually had a displaced fracture, dont say anything. |
