It's not even an endangered or threatened species. Call the local DNR for Christs' sake! |

No... but I wouldn't expect aliens (any superior being) to set up security around my planet and waste their budget dollars doing it... especially when we (just like ducks) have been doing fine on our own for years already.
It's OK that you think it's cute though... it comes from youth. What till those jerks are sucking up 28% of your paycheck to pay for stuff we shouldn't have to, then your opinion is likely to change. |

Secret service guards for ducks, but no money for our countries poor.
What is wrong with this picture? |

Hmmm...well, the national debt and the national deficit are two slightly different things, but more or less, our present policies are such that we don't truly intend to ever break even.
My old econ prof could explain this better than I can, but if you're ever bored and want something to do, it's a really interesting thing to do a bit of research on. |

Just wait until the president gets assassinated all because the secret service was making sure that the duck was okay. |

They are probably secret-service-in-training. I can hear the morning briefing now "This duck is the President, you will give your life to protect this duck". Dubya Duck |

Maybe they're priming the duck to replace the president! After all who would notice? |

Hmmm...well, if our govt wastes time and money putting up signs for duck crossings, why shouldn't your govt waste time & money protecting a nesting mother? |

I don't think they expanded their budget any to protect the duck. They probably just used money that they would have used to paint their bathroom, or something like that. I think I like what they're doing, it's sort of like a 'beautification expense.' |

It's probably the SS agent that forgot to bring GW's scotch on the last plane ride getting the "duck-duty".
So, will these ducks become celebrities, and get their own TV show? Everyone else ducks (I mean does, everyone else DOES).
Maybe the cash they bring in from selling their feathers will cover the overtime. |

...Yeah, but can you imagine the flack that would be given if the duck got hurt or injured on GOV'T property??
Jeez, people would be all over it. I can see the headlines:
"Duckacide"
"Gov't Lack Fowl Support"
Seriously, people get worked up over EVERYTHING. You guys are weirded out b/c the gov't DOES care, someone else would be in a tizzie b/c the gov't DOESN'T care. There's no pleasing everyone.
P.S. If it were up to me, I'd cut funding for space programs and friggin' deal with OUR planet first. |

I myself couldn't give a damn, it's not MY tax money.
It's just fun to come up with crappy headlines like:
"Ducks Cry Fowl!"
"Has The White House Gone Daffy?"
and such... |

Maybe if they were to take the seven billion or so dollars that they're spending making movies this year, made a few with a good plot or actual acting or something, and spent the rest of the budget on feeding people and stuff... |

I view communism and democracy about the same...
They both have good and bad points, and due to human nature, they can never work, and will eventually fall apart into anarchy.
Yay, Anarchy!
I just don't see why society has to spend so much money on movies, when reading books exercises the mind even better, and makes people literate, so that they know how to spell when they hit the net.
Not that I don't enjoy movies, I was just making the human nature point when comparing movie expenditure to what people say they SHOULD spend their money on.
If everyone who was going to a theatre to watch a movie, or going to rent or buy a video, instead donated that money to charity for the next year, what would happen?
It'll never happen, humans are just too inherently selfish. Not ALL people, but about 99.8 percent of us. |

Whips out the old "Democracy is a system of government, communism is an economic system" argument.
Really, to be fair, you should compare communism to capitalism, because a good communist state would be democratic. Not that there are many, if any, good communist states. |

It's ok, I know the evil capitalists have conditioned you to think that communism is the opposite of democracy. |

I know I'll catch a ton of flack over this one but, it is my opinion that the next big step humans need to take in order to progress as a species is to get over this whole money / profit idea. We are just one small dot of insignificant bullshit among many dots in our galaxy. If you need something, and it's available you should get it. (Notice I said need not want, AND YES I know who's to then decide what's needed) Communism, as an Economic principle, is in theory a good idea... There's only so much, no matter what you're talking about, so why shouldn't everyone have? |

I think that if we ever stop using money, we won't really be human any more, or at least we won't have any civilization as we know it. Money is needed for our wants, after all; otherwise, how would I ever get a trilobite fossil, since someone else might have hoarded them all? And there aren't enough good trilobites to give one to everybody.
As cliche as it is to say, communism might be an impossible dream, and socialist capitalism might be the best for which we can aim.
Uh oh, getting off topic... um, Ray Bradbury once wrote a story about money. |
