I sure hope this is not for English class.
This is a Hoax website, not Google Answers.
However, try this site. I can't vouch for it's accuracy 'tho.

Also try googling accident statistics and bicycle (or motocycle if that's what you mean) or aviation. |

If you are talking about motorcycles, bear in mind that EMTs call them donorcycles... |

This is not the first time someone has posted b/c they wanted an answer for a paper of some sort...if you google "free school papers" does this site come up?
...to answer my own question, I just googled that & no. This site doesn't come up. I also tried free school reports...and no museumofhoaxes.com. I thought maybe this would be something like the doctor-note incident. |

I don't mind if people post questions, as long as they're somehow hoaxy/urban-legendy in nature. The idea that bike crashes kill more people than airplane crashes sounds a bit like an urban legend, so I let the post stay up there. But my guess is that bike crashes would actually kill more people every year. Even if we're just talking about regular bicycles, not motorcycles. I figure all those insane bicycle messengers you see speeding around cities have to die at a pretty high rate.
However, if people start posting questions like: 'what was the date of the Spanish armada. I need to know for a test tomorrow.' I'm going to delete posts like that. |

Besides Accident Research
you can also take a look at

In what language does "Charybdis" mean "smart ass?" I tried Babel Fish and I couldn't translate it. |

ok, I have no evidence whatsoever, but it seems very very very likely that more people die in bicycle accidents then in airplane crashes. Plane crashes are fairly uncommon while bike crashes are very common. Here in Tucson where almost everyone rides bikes around (due to the high poverty level), there are bike accidents all the time. I would venture to say that more people die of bike accidents in Tucson alone then the total amount of people in world who die in plane crashes every year.
Also, you don't mention death, you just mention crashes. I actually had one last week. I crashed into the ground because I was stupid and made a turn too sharp...I have the bruises to prove it.
Perhaps you just count crashes into other bikes or cars. I've had 2 with other bikes in the past year, and one with a car whose driver decided to run a stop sign. If the average bike owner is anything like me, I think you have your answer right there. |

Since Charybdis posted a link to my web site with regard to a question that wasn't entirely hoax related, I thought I would provide a link to two areas of my web site with information about legal and lawyer hoax e-mails and myths.
I have lawyer and doctor jokes with info on hoax e-mails at lawyer jokes and legal hoax e-mails
There's also information on lawyer e-mail hoaxes and myths at The Truth About Insurance; Tort Reform; Jury Verdicts; Real & Phony Law Suits

Maegan,
Thanks to your post, now if you type "free school papers" (with the quotes) in google, the museum is the sixth site found. NewScientist has a word for that. I think it's something like self-negating statement (by saying it wasn't true, you made it true, making your statement false). Now if this thread turns into another fake doctor thread, we'll know who to blame. |

I'm confused... who are we supposed to blame for what? I want in, whatever and whomever, I just need more details. |

Without looking at any evidence, I'd tend to agree with Razela on this. In my lifetime I've only heard of i think two plane crashes, not including 9/11. A lot of people die in those, but incidents where a bike would collide with a car seem like they would happen often enough to overtake the plane death number.
This is just based on assumption... |

Hairy, I'm not going to go into religion anywhere else but that one thread, okay? You have my word. I was wrong to talk to you like I did, regardless of what anyone said in that thread, so I'm sorry. Lets just try to get along, please?

Well see Hairy, Eric is only 4 months old. If he were about 20 or so and didn't have his head firmly lodged someplace he would have heard of dozens if not hundreds of plane crashes. |

Hey, Charybdis. I'm 19, thank you very much. I don't usually watch the news. Never have. Thought it was dull. That's what the Daily Show is for in my opinion. I was providing that based on assumptions that I would have had based only on what I personally heard about.
I don't think a 4 month old would be able to type anythin comprehensable, anyway. |

Ooo, the Daily Show! It is a bit informative, by the way. I'd never have known that Texas is may be planning to ban gay foster homes and that the foster agencies would be allowed to 'test' for gayness. Children would also be taken away from all 'gay' foster homes. I don't know if the bill passed the senate yet, but it sure says a lot about the Texas legislature.
But really, Jon Stuart would rather that you watch real news toos, as much as he thinks it's crap. |

Probably, but it doesn't take away from the fact that I think the daily show is hilarious.
My friend has been known to say that the daily show is more fair and balanced than Fox News Channel, simply because rather than just post their opinions on real news (that's not fair and balanced, is it fox?) they just make up their own news and make fun of everybody.
I guess I just don't like real news. |

Those who say that the bikes are more dangerous are certainly correct if you include motorcycles.
I am a pilot and owner of a piston plane. General Aviation (GA is basically all flying not by scheduled airlines or the government/military) has a fatality rate almost identical to that of motorcycles. Being that there are more motorcycles it would follow there are more motorcycle fatalities.
Bicycles likely are as well. I have no stats, but about half of motor vehicle fatalities are caused by "the other vehicle". Many of those are drunk drivers. Given the number of bicycles, its not hard to imagine how many fatalities they could have just by being runover.
Another neat fact - more people are killed on the ground by lightning than by airplanes. Even if you live at the end of a runway, you are more likely to be hit by lightning than a crashing plane. I believe the rate is less than 3 a year on average in the US from planes and much more from lightning. In fact, more people are killed INSIDE their homes by cars coming through the walls, than by falling planes.
Frankly, airplanes are only dangerous to those in them, and at least you aren't going to get hit by a drunk driver. |
