Ok I'm 15-yrs-old and i need help with potty training my 2-yr-old cousin. I'm babysitting him and his 5-yr-old brother over the summer two days a week and I get a bonus if I reach the goal of "potty trained" HELP! I need some tips before I start! |

I doubt this is real...I was just learning in my anatomy and physiology classes that the release of waste is a visceral reflex in an infant because the nerves connected to those sphincter muscles are unmeyelinated. I also did a google search to take a look at what other sites say and they're all either based on that one author's books and website or they all scream "junk science." |

Yes. This is real. I started working with my daughter when she was about 3 weeks old. She's almost 1 year now and pees in the toilet about 1/2 the time and poops in the toilet almost 100% of the time (accidents a couple of times when she was sick). It seems weird but its really less about potty training as you would with a toddler and more about never training them in the first place to be comfortable sitting in waste. As far as the science behind it, well, when you're doing this its fairly obvious that babies have control over release. If nothing else the feel of the baby toilet and the sound of your trigger noise prompts a Pavlovian response since you start out by placing them on the potty when you anticipate they will eliminate. As someone who only had to change poopy diapers for the first 3 months of her child's life, I'd recommend it. |
