Hoax Dilemma

You all obviously enjoy the art of a good hoax. And I enjoy creating hoaxes. In general, this works wonderfully well for both of us. But there is an ever growing problem. I, of course, certainly don't mind when you have uncovered one of my hoaxes, that is the ultimate point after all - to have the hoax revealed so as to cause a heartfelt chuckle. And in fact, I find it very useful to read your comments about my hoaxes because it helps me improve upon the plot by pointing out the subtle flaws I have overlooked.
But here is the issue: If this web site's running list of hoaxes refers to the hoax web site by name, then the search engines pick up on it and potentially spoil the hoax for everyone else on the web.
Consider the logistics. An unsuspecting person stumbles across one of my web sites. They are shocked at what they are reading. Is this true, they wonder? Or is this a hoax? They enter my web site's name into a search engine to get more info and one of the first references to show up is a blurb by TheMuseumOfHoaxes.com. Plot spoiled.
Would it be possible for you to help maintain the integrity of my hoaxes by not referring to the hoax web site directly in ASCII text form? Perhaps , and I know this is a little extra effort, but perhaps the name could be draw as a .GIF file. In so doing, the search engines would miss the name, but a reader at this site wouldn't know the difference.
Note, this would only have to be done in one place, the introductory running list of hoaxes. Here on this discussion board, people could still refer to the site in text form because I've noticed that search engines do not scan this forum.
Thanks for considering.

If someone is searching an engine to find out if your site is a hoax...then your objective has been completed. You created a hoax...they discovered...they chuckled (eh...maybe).
You just wanted your own thread. It's okay. Everyone does. |
