Alex,
We would like to suggest that you give a light I.Q. test before allowing non-members to post. Children who don't even get that they're at a site called "Museum of Hoaxes" and the implications of that title, and in spite of that still don't get from the links (i.e. People for the ethical treatment of pumpkins) that something is bogus, shouldn't be allowed to pollute the air with their drivel. If these students are so worried about wasting their precious time they should quit skipping ENGLISH classes. There is a difference between their, there, and they're. Learn it ladies. Ur doesn't equal "you are" or "You're" or "your." I liked this little link because it provided me with a laugh, until I lost 5 minutes of my life trying to read the drivel this lady (I suspect they're one in the same) posted. |

Far funnier and slightly more subtle : <a href="http://www.bondmovies.com/sounds/sounds/daf/plenty.mp3">Sound Clip</a>
Plenty O'Toole: Hi, I'm Plenty.
James Bond: But of course you are.
Plenty O'Toole: Plenty O'Toole.
James Bond: Named after your father perhaps? |

Have you considered a 'multi-girl' theory; teenage girls like to cruise the net together. The theme of messages 2 and 3 revolves around the writer's feelings of hurt, both to herself and the octupi, whereas the first message has a more distinctive theology concerned with truth, and a greater concern with the emotions of the recipient. Although we are not told the author of the third message, (Lertropoke is not a real name, corresponding in Google only to this message), in the dialect in use at the time it was possible to construct the name 'Kristy' as a derivative of Kristen, the given name of writer number 2. Note the characteristic -y ending. There are also clues in the language used. Writer 1 consistently uses the 'ur' form for 'your' and derivatives, whereas writer 2 gives the more classically correct form 'your'. Writers 2 and 3 are also more extravagent in their use of exclamation marks, where we again see a more measured tone from writer 1.
In determining when these letters were written it is worth considering that '1 Cross Girl' suggests a response made at the time of first viewing the website, whereas 2 and 3 Cross Girl could have been composed in the post-spectating period when a deeper understanding of the writer's emotions was available. This suggests that 2,3 Cross Girl were composed around the same time whereas 1 Cross Girl dates from an earlier period.
I would conclude that by any reasonable standards of exegesis, 1 Cross Girl could not have been written by the same author as 2 and 3 Cross Girl. I further suggest that internal clues make it highly likely that 3 Cross Girl was written by the same author as 2 Cross Girl, and at around the same time. It is true that some of my friends have found a different author for 3 Cross Girl based on minor differences of taxonomy, but this must be regarded as speculative. |

Such a pity that the link to Greanpeas doesn't work. Mottled roach is good! Their aroma closely resembles certain flowers ...boquet of vintage camel urine! It seems as though the only legit animals linked to are the Christmas Island crabs. |

Going back a wee bit, I agree that an IQ test would be good for non members. Perhaps (since this seems to be a popular subject we gripe about) they need to be able to destinguish between your and you're and then between there, their and they're. It's just a bit harder than what they normally have too do to post. |

This website is pretty funny in hindsite, Freshman year I almost did my research paper on invertabrates on this. It wasn't until days into it that I realize that one of its main predators is the sasquatch, that was the real tip, and when I go back all the little touches they made were ingenious if not a little mean. |

don't know about in tree's but I've played with them under water,
beautiful animals, highly intelligent, shy but very curious.
One once had a real fascination for my flash light wanting to take it back into it's den, would spend half the dive just untangling myself from him. |

we have seen tree octopi, and not just in the pacific northwest...there was one in the new forest...i poked it with a stick myself so i no its real. we have taken pictures but as you are all non believers we refuse to share our magical moment if you will not appreciate it. but it is disgusting that you dont have faith in god's creatures. we are trying to help these rare beasts by raising awareness of their existance...how are we to do so if you wont give them a chance to live and simply pass it off as a hoax. you should be ashamed of yourselves.

You put punctuation inside the quotation marks when it's actually inside a real quote, I did not use it in a real sentence, just bits.
(I was not using a direct quote.)

I'm disappointed the Tree Octopus isn't real! I am searching for infomation on endangered octopi and am specifically interested in orange flesh tones. When I saw the pic of the Tree Octopus, my instant reaction was one of joy that I could have found such an incredible creature and never heard of it before! Well, anyway, it was great to have such excitement for a few minutes. I do think it is unfortunate that there is a not a disclaimer anywhere on the site. Even if it seems like hoax material would be obvious, it would be polite to the larger learning community to have such a disclaimer to save time. Thanks for all the postings that confirmed by doubts about the site! 😊 |
