I am looking for more information on the following art hoax, perpetrated (I think) sometime in the early twentieth century.
There were these French dudes who didn't like the way art was going. So they decided to prank the art establishment. They took a donkey, tied a paintbrush to its tail, and set a canvas up behind it. In order to make it paint the canvas, they held a carrot in front of it, and it would wag its tail. The result was a painting which was named "And the Sun Set Over the Adriatic." The painting recieved high praise from art critics until the donkey's owners unmasked it.
Can anybody fill in the gaps?
