Digital Camera Found in the Woods

Here's a story that appeared last Saturday on the GTA forums about a guy who found a digital camera while hiking in the woods. The camera had a 300 mb hard drive and the founder just wanted to share the pictures on the forum.
Then, when others saw the pictures they discovered something weird about them. A form, shaped like a person, peeping from behind a tree. Prying eyes and strange faces in a ruin's window.
When more people saw the photographs, more strange things were discovered. Something that looks like a baby, hanging from the trees. A hand, covering the camera.
It all reminds me a little bit of The Blair Witch Project and I can't say if this story is true or a hoax.
You decide!

Those are some of the creepiest images I've ever seen. If it is a Blair Witch type marketing thing, then it's quite well done. Even if it isn't, it's well done. Someone obviously put a bit of thought into hiding unsettling things in those pictures. |

Looks like the pictures were originally posted on Something Awful by a poster named Bluremi. They were simply copied onto the GTA forums:

All the creepy stuff was just photoshopped into them. |

The thing that interests me the most about them is the fact that they not only photoshopped the stuff in them (and very effectively) but that they also seemed to have planned the entire thing while they were shooting the pictures themselves...with the scary walk up to the ruins, followed by the commotion and the running away...if this wasn't done for any commercial reasons than I'd be surprised....
Can't figure out why they posted the unphotoshopped pic so quickly however.... |

I'm the person who edited the following image:

(I didn't start the thread, I just grabbed the last photo of the series posted by the original author and added elements that I thought obviously pushed it over the top)
If you go through the thread at SA, you can tell that it was never intended as a hardcore hoax, just something to spook a few people and have a laugh over. When the images started showing up on other forums though, and people started being genuinely convinced . . . well I guess there's a tendency at SA to forget just how unjaded most of the internet population is. I couldn't believe that there were people declaring that the aliens I digitally painted in an hour were in fact genuine and showed no signs of forgery. I mean, I'm a visual effects artist, but the extent to which people can be misled by imagery presented in the right context still surprises me from time to time.
I suppose it just shows how much the "I want to believe" people will reach when they, well, want to believe. |

This hoax also turned up at prince.org (a Prince fan site) the other day. It was titled the same way "I found this camera in the woods" etc. Apparently it got some goosebumps under some peoples skin! |

hey, I checked out the photos and decided to comment on my in-put, those pictures are vary good.. but the human figure in the two of the photo's is fake.. sum1 probably planted it there.. to make it seem like a big find, either that or the camera already belonged to the guy. But, its still vary creepy. |
