Life With Skippy…did this show ever really exist?

(I'm breaking this into two parts so it will show up)
Recently I was over at the Sitcoms Online Message Board, and I came across a rather curious posting.
Apparently someone put an item up for sale on ebay that belonged to a deceased member of a supposed sitcom called "Life With Skippy".
Upon reading the message thread, it was discussed that this show didn't really exist, even though there is an entire site devoted to it. Some seem to think the site is an elaborate hoax.
I personally googled it in an attempt to find information, and I came across a posting someone made at the TV Land board claiming to have seen "Life With Skippy" and made reference to the aforementioned deceased cast member.

Here is a link to the Sitcoms Online thread that started this: http://www.tvlinksonline.com/boards/showthread.php?s=&threadid=117941&perpage=15&pagenumber=1
Here is a link to the website devoted to "Life With Skippy": http://www.lifewithskippy.com
And finally, here is a link to the TV Land post where someone claims to have seen the show: http://www.tvland.com/boards/viewthread.jhtml?bID=60&tID=59515&mID=266220&offset=0&_DARGS=/boards/viewboard.jhtml.16_A&_DAV=2
Please tell me what you make of all this...is it a hoax or what?

That's some interesting stuff. I'm definitely intrigued. I think I'll have to put 'Life with Skippy' up on the main page of the site.
But in the meantime, here's a few other links:
The website of Adam Felber, who claims to have been an actor on the show:
http://www.adamfelber.com/
And here's the eBay auction for the 'life with skippy' hat worn by Buddy Wilson:

It definitely seems like a hoax to me, but such an elaborate one that I suspect it may be some kind of guerrilla marketing campaign.
My wife pointed out that 'Life with Skippy' seems awfully similar to 'Skippy: The Bush Kangaroo', which was a real kid's show in Australia. Maybe Life with Skippy is spoofing it. |

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't "Skippy" the name of George Bush senior's Evil Twin in Gary Trudeau's Doonesbury cartoon strip some years back? (kinda fits the Skippy the Bush Kangaroo scenario, too, I guess) |

I found out the real deal behind 'Life with Skippy.' A New York-based production company called Metropolis Entertainment has developed a tv series called 'Life After Skippy' that details the life of a child actor who has now grown up and become a bit of a loser. Evidently Metropolis must be conducting a guerrilla marketing campaign, seeding the internet with stuff about this fictitious show called Life with Skippy, in order to promote Life After Skippy.

That is interesting. I guess it helps explain things.
Any idea where this "Life After Skippy" show might air? Is it going to get picked up by a network, or is it strictly an independent production? |

Yes, tiz true. Its a guerilla marketing campaign. Trying to create a buzz. We know the deal. Like a Blair Witch kinda thing. The show was made up by Stephen Fishler at his comic shop in Union Square. About a fake former child star, from a fake 60's sit-com. An unfunny show, about an unfunny dork. Blah! BORING!!!
It is struggling to get made/finished. He's trying to ride the whole fake-reality tv wave thats going on. Trying real hard to be a Office (BBC) rip-off. I'm an insider who has seen the promo/ruff pilot. It ain't too funny and I doubt it will make it to air. You ain't missin' much. Infact, lets all stop talking about it, cause' after all, sometimes bad publicity, is good publicity. Nuff Said!!!!! |
