Unhappy soldier faked own abduction
A German teenager faces legal action after faking his own kidnapping because he didn't want to finish his compulsory military service.
The 19-year-old from Cologne faked his own kidnapping and sparked a police hunt.
Hiding under a railroad bridge, he used his mobile phone to call emergency services, telling the operator he'd been abducted.
He told them he felt cold and all he could see was water, a pipe above his head and ships passing below.
Police and the fire service began a search of the area and stopped all trains coming from Cologne for two hours.
Firemen eventually climbed up to the bridge, crawled along it and found the youth with tape around his legs and wrists and a gag around his neck which he said he had managed to loosen.
He first told officers that strangers had placed him on the bridge while unconscious, but soon afterwards admitted he had made up the entire story.
It's reported he'd hoped he would have been allowed home because of the trauma instead of returning to his barracks.
He has now been charged with misleading the authorities by faking a crime.
I wonder if he got the idea from Wassef Ali Hassoun

Ummm...in America, isn't everyone Innocent until PROVEN guilty? Unless you guys think legal and civil rights are a hoax. I wonder if you would feel the same way about Mr. Hassoun if he had a name like John Smith... smells like Racism to me. Anybody else? Bring it on. |

Hairy, it seems to me like you're trolling. Hassoun was just one person in the news recently alleged to have faked their own abduction. What about Audrey Seiler from a few months ago? |

Alex, you are right...I followed up and read a bit more, and it does seem as though there are some strange questions regarding Mr. Hassoun. Sorry if I over-reacted, Heather, and Alex...one of those Hairy days for Hairy... |
