High School For Sale

I would like to bring your attention to the group of high schoolers in Illinois who put their school up for sale on Ebay.....yeah, they stole that idea from us. By "us" I mean Ladue Horton Watkins High School located in Ladue, a suburb of St. Louis, Missouri. In May 2000, the senior prank was to put up the school up for sale. We put an ad in the newspaper that advertised a two bedroom house with tennis courts, indoor pool, theatre and finished basement for the bargan price of $500,000 located at 1201 S. Warson. What several people failed to realize was that 1201 S. Warson also happens to be the address of Ladue High School. Many people called inquiring about the property, only to sadly discover that they had been tricked. We made national news, including a feature in the MTV series, "High School Stories." Here is a url of one of MANY websites that talks about our prank: http://www.jokecenter.com/jokes/Education/6866.htm
I just think that we should get credit for the creative idea of selling our school first.

Actually, the high-school-for-sale prank is a pretty old one. I've got an instance of it recorded from 1985 in my chronological list of April Fool's Day hoaxes (it's a few items down). But I suspect that the prank is much older even than that.

The students of Newtonbrook Secondary School in Canada placed an ad in a local newspaper putting their school up for sale. The ad read: "For Sale |
