Time Travel Mutual Fund

I just received this rather non-humorous letter from the folks over at the Time Travel Mutual Fund:

Hello Alex,
I see you have our site, The Time Travel Fund, listed in your museum
of hoaxes.(www.TimeTravelFund.com)
I am writing you to ask that you remove us from your site. We are not
a hoax; we are serious in what we are attempting to do. Your site
lists us as being a hoax as if it were a fact, not as simply being
your personal opinion.
While you are certainly entitled to your opinion, presenting it as a
fact and not an opinion is slander.

This raises a dilemma for me. I do, in fact, list the Time Travel Fund in my gallery of hoax websites, having assumed that the site was a kind of cute, tongue-in-cheek idea whose main purpose was to sell $10 certificates that people could hang on their wall as a joke, rather than really being in the business of fund management. But if they're perfectly serious about their time travel fund, then that makes it a kooky site, rather than a hoax site. Should I keep the site on the list? I'm not sure.

I'm inclined to keep it on there just to annoy them because I don't like their legalistic threat about me slandering them. But I think the best thing to do would be to keep their site in the list, but add a disclaimer noting that while I thought the Fund was a joke, the fund managers themselves seem to take their task very seriously.

Hi,
I think that time travel holds great potential but also great thret to human kind if someone was to get control of this device and use it for evil or to change people time lines then we would all be seriously screwed. I think that the government should clamp down on sites like this for the saftey of the future and the poeple living in society. Dont get me wrong im sure they are really nice guys but if youre asking me to trust my entire life history and probable historys to them, I think it is a gamble only the fool harted should take.

Hi again,
I would not call this site a hoxe as anything is possible if we can imagine it and concieve it then i guess it should be taken seriously. What if somone has already gone back in time and puposely flawed are time line history and future, it has to be the only explanationa s to why great disasters like the titanic etc has been allowed to take place. I am still sceptical about the whole idea but people are good at keeping things a secret and i bet we will never know if time travel is in fact possible even if we do infact manage to survive as a human race into the future.

I looked around on their site. Although the idea is strange, and they themselves admit that there is no guarantee. It seems they are serious in at least attempting to someday use their "fund" for time travel, and seeing as they clearly tell people before they pay that there is absolutely no guarantee it will work, and, they really do send a certificate and keep the people's information in case it someday works then I would not consider this site a hoax at all. Your posting of them on here is most definitely 100% libel.

And by the way I am a law student. You pretty much all have the libel/slander thing wrong. Both fall under defamation, the only difference is in the communication of it. Slander is oral, libel is printed.
