Gnome Liberation Front Strikes Again
On Nov. 1 79 garden gnomes were liberated by the Garden Gnome Liberation Front in France. The gnomes were later found along the bank of a stream "in some underbrush with a banner that read, 'gnome mistreated, gnome liberated.'"

Fake Priests in Japan
The BBC has an article about the growing popularity of using fake priests at Japanese weddings: "The fake Western priests are employed at Western-style weddings to give a performance and add to the atmosphere. These are not legal ceremonies - the couples also have to make a trip to the local registrar." Apparently it's becoming quite a big business. I also wrote about this in Hippo Eats Dwarf, so it's not exactly new news.

New Kidney Turning Man into his Wife
Ian Gammons received a kidney transplant from his wife. Now he claims that the kidney is slowly causing him to adopt her personality traits: "Now the 51-year-old Briton is never happier than when baking scones or "wandering round the shops and looking for bargains", he says. He has even begun to share his wife's love of dogs, an animal he despised before receiving the kidney a year ago."

Uri Geller Claims Remote Viewing Helped US Find Hussein
Of course, we all know how credible Uri Geller is, so when he says something like this it immediately commands our respect. Remember his appearance on the Tonight Show?

New Political Dirty Trick: Robocalls
The GOP is being accused of making robocalls: tape-recorded phone messages that appear to be made by their Democratic rivals. The strategy is to make voters so disgusted by getting all these automated calls, often receiving them late at night, that they'll decide to switch their vote to the candidate not making those calls, i.e. the GOP.

Maybe he's just appreciating what he almost lost. (I would assume that without his wife's kidney, he'd have died.)

Yeah, Kidney guy seems happy enough. Good thing, or else he always has the option of giving it back.

It should be pointed out that in many places, the Democrats, as well as the Republicans, really are using Robocalls. In this case, it could be a dirty trick, I suppose, or it could be someone else thinking there working on behalf of the Democratic candidate.

Not sure if it's reverse psychology or not, but this has been the worst year for me receiving political robot calls. I'm averaging about 4 a day on my home phone, and my wife is receiving about 1 a day on her cell phone. I'm in CA and I've gotten calls from Arnold Schwarzenegger, Clint Eastwood, and a whole slew of other minor celebrities support the many propositions this year...

Robocalls. Yuck. Every time a US election rolls around and I start hearing about the stuff their campaigners come up with, I'm so very very glad that I live in Canada.

I got a few RoboCalls last weekend, and on my caller ID, Ted Strickland showed up. I didn't pick up the first few calls, but then my sister did, and she said it was only like 5 seconds long and only identifed Ted Strickland.

A lot of campaign calls are also coming from the 202 area code for D.C. I didn't get any, but then, I also have my house phone hooked up to the fax...and the fax picks up & starts squealing in your ear after 3 rings. 😊

Robo-calls are nothing new. Please notice that the politicians carefully exempted themselves from the "do not call" law. Spam emails are new, at least for me. Luckily mine were almost always filtered. I got a ton from various candidates and people on both sides of most of the issues on the Arizona ballot. What irked me the most were the "research" polls that were so carefully designed to support the Democrats regardless of how I answered the question. Luckily, my TV went out a couple of months ago and I haven't gotten around to fixing/repairing it yet. I missed all the TV spots.

I envy you - the tv spots were particularly heavy and obnoxious everywhere this campaign. I was down to watching one hour of local & national news per day on the tv, and must have seen or muted twenty per hour near the end. Now - time to get your tv fixed, it's over till next year.
