Plain Layne is Odin Soli

This isn't going to mean much to anyone, but when I heard the news I was dumbfounded. Plain Layne is Odin Soli. I haven't seen Odin in years, but I know him quite well. We went to grad school together at UC San Diego, though he left before I did. I've also read a novel he wrote. It was a detective story and pretty good. We TA'ed for the same class, plus we had quite a few beers together in the campus pub. Well, this makes the entire Plain Layne saga much more up close and personal for me. Strange how people in your past can suddenly pop up again like that. I'm going to have to see if I can contact Odin to see what he's been up to (besides pretending to be Plain Layne).

"I've also read a novel he wrote."

Do you remember the title of that novel?

And did Odin Soli write it under his own name or under a pseudonym?

Ryan, it was an unpublished manuscript. We critiqued each other's writing efforts once or twice. I can't remember the title of his novel. I have no idea if he ever got it published, but I suspect not.

Alex! What a strange way to reconnect after all these years. I have so many questions for you about everything that happened to the UCSD gang after I left, and of course all that's up with you. Send me an email and let's get back in touch.

You would've appreciated the Plain Layne project, which turned out to be an amazing exercise. We can catch up about that too, although here's a link for some background info:

Odin, I don't do the Facebook thing or the email thing or any of that. Just gonna throw this up against this virtual wall and check back in a year or two to see if you've peed over it (which I hope you do). I stumbled on the Plain Jayne stuff and can't believe how upset some people got. ... My Odin Soli memories: you writing "oral sex" on all of your notebooks in seventh or eight grade, counting how often one of our teachers repeated some word in class and getting busted for it, our groovy green basketball uniforms and the awesome Rec Specs, you having a 600-page book with you at all times. Hope you are doing well. I can tell you are still laughing a lot.
