Mysterious Creature Washed Up on Beach

imageI received links to two different pages featuring a series of pictures showing what is described as a 'monster' and an 'unknown creature'.

On one of the sites, this description is given:

This creature was found by Russian soldiers on Sakhalin shoreline. Sakhalin area is situated near to Japan, it’s the most eastern part of Russia, almost 5000 miles to East from Moscow (Russia is huge). People don’t know who is it. According to the bones and teeth - it is not a fish. According to its skeleton - it’s not a crocodile or alligator. It has a skin with hair or fur. It has been said that it was taken by Russian special services for in-depth studies, and we are lucky that people who encountered it first made those photos before it was brought away.

Ignoring the unverified description, I'm fairly sure it's a beluga whale.
A site describes them as: "... a small white whale measuring 9 to 15 feet in length (Seems about right, sizewise). Belugas are found throughout the Arctic Ocean and in a few other isolated populations. Belugas were once heavily hunted for their meat, hide (for leather) and oil.

(Thanks to Sarah and Gerrit for the links, and Charybdis for his excellent googling skills.)

Could be a Stellers Sea Cow.

The one animal I wish we could recover, just for the burgers.

This thing reminds me of a giant Ur-ru skeleton from "The Dark Crystal". Of course, in its current condition, it just as easily be mistaken for a Skeksis.

I was secretly hoping it would be another of those Shadow of the Colossus viral ads from a few months ago. Remember these?

There were posts about it right here on MoH, too.

That is a very sad story of the extinction of a beautiful creature, Mr/Ms Seacow Patty Man. If they were plentiful, then yes, the burgers would probably be yummy. But they are Extinct! Really reminds me of the North American Passenger pidgeons, and their awful demise.

As far as the links to the dead seacow, or whatever go - I cannot even imagine the smell! And the skull doesn't look real but I won't pass judgement on this, I've seen weirder that was real.

Its a beluga. The skull probably is (I had mistaken some chips in the skull for a carnissal structure) and the rest fits (size/shape).

It is however, the right area (west coast of Russia, north of Japan) for the few sightings of the Stellers Sea Cow in the modern era. The sightings are probably mis-identified floating whale corpses, rather then positive ID's though.

As Flora writes, it's a Beluga, a toothed whale. Sea cows don't have these teeth. The apparent "furry/hairy coat" is a feature more often seen with decomposing carcasses.

Lounge Lizard, my very first thought upon seeing it was that it looked like an urRu or an urSkek. I guess that's what comes from being a teenager during the eighties.

It's Dennis Rodman passed out after night of partying. That's who is it...

Is this the only picture of the thing? It would be easier if the view was more from the side. At first glance it looks like an old girl-friend of Clinton. Of course, maybe that's why this is the only view. Any plans to start selling t-shirts or other junk of the "thing" as a way to save the endangered sea monster?

Both pages that I put links to have a series of photos, Christopher.

I can see the Virgin Mary on one of its teeth!

The message is clear: Doomsday is near! Repent!
