Dukes of Fallujah

Status: Photoshopped
This is pretty obviously photoshopped. The colors are too bright, for one thing. Also, I don't think the Army lets soldiers custom paint their jeeps. (via Telebush)

Forget the color scheme; do Humvees in Iraq really have no doors like that? Seems a wee bit...unsafe, wouldn't you say?

Been there (twice) and yes lots of us drove around without doors. may not appear safe, but the "armored" doors aren't all that armored and it makes de-assing the vehicle a whole lot quicker so you can respond to enemy fire or run like hell which ever the situation calls for.

It's fake for one reason...see that tank in the background? It's a Patton(M60), they haven't been deployed in Iraq afaik....

And, even worse, I'm told female soldiers aren't allowed to wear Daisy Dukes!!!

That's just sad. This thing's been going on now for, what, three years and we STILL can't put decent armor on the friggin' vehicles? Why don't we just paint targets on the backs of the troops' uniforms?

Sure we do... They're called tanks. Trouble is, tanks aren't very useful for patrols.

Photoshop some "Hillbilly Armor" on this kikazz humvee
http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=1258652

From that same thread, this is some guy's description of the original picture:

"looks like a photoshoot in camp. Also looks like the UK's repair shop seeing as how there is a British flag behind them, trucks with hoods up, and a tank sitting around them. This is why the humvee is missing doors. A driver would be highly unlikly to carry a SAW...kind of hard to get that bigass gun around to shoot. More likely to have an M4 or a PDW or some kind. I'm thinking it is more of a hey, ya'll look at us, we have machine guns and are playing with a .50."

Travis, I was speaking specifically about the Humvees. I figured that was obvious given the topic of this thread.

True, CrankyMediaGuy, but there are different tasks for different vehicles. You want something heavily armored, it has to be slow. You want something fast, you limit the armor. You want something fast and heavily armored, it has to be either very big and powerful or only carry one or two guys. Big doesn't do well on patrols.

Well, since some troops have taken to trying to fashion their own armor for the Humvees, I guess they think that the smaller vehicles need to be armored, too.

Not by the US, but how about by the other militaries involved?

And as for not having adequate armour on the Humvees, the US military has been having to cut back a lot over the past decade or so due to a reduced and often poorly-applied budget. But even so, more armour is not always the best thing to have. No matter how thick the armour, there's always something that can break it, especially when the armour makes you into a large, slow-moving target. Sometimes manoeuvreability and speed is better to have.

The military budget has gone WAY up during the past five years. Also, as far as armor on Humvees goes, the troops seem to think it's necessary as they have been improvising their own. There's no ground vehicle on Earth that can outrun a bullet.

I hate to break it to you guys, but I know this is NOT photoshopped. I am related to the driver. It was painted in the states, picture was taken in the states.
