Cow Urine

Apparently cow urine is the hot new drink in India. I'm not sure what people believe to be the health benefits of it, but there's a brisk market in sales of the stuff. The only problem is the nasty smell:

A few suppliers even have suggestions for battling the odour. "You can kill the smell if you add some essence while consuming it. But if you store it in a bottle again, the odour returns," says Lakshmanananda of another ashram in Gandipet, on the outskirts of the city.

Demand is so strong that it's even spawning a market for fake cow urine:

As cow urine does booming business, can the fakes be far behind? The city has a supply of about 500 litres a day, but now buffalo urine and that of other animals are being passed off as the real thing. "Spurious products have sprung up from nowhere," says Prashant Kumar Vyas, a supplier from Siddiambar bazaar.

Fake cow urine?

So if I buy some cow urine and it doesn't taste right... it could be fake?

Alex, where do you find these articles?! Drinking cow urine, ewwww nasty!

Well, aside from the obvious 'ew ick' connotations from drinking it, urine *is* pretty much sterile when it leaves the body... Still yuck, though.

"Your honor, the Defendant fraudulently supplied his own urine instead of the health-giving cow piss the Plaintiff paid for.."

Does anyone know if they ship cow urine in 2 liter bottles? Iced with a bit of twist of lime would be excellent. I could also dip some of the Runaway bride toast I just bought off Ebay. It also boosts brane power! Yum!!

Cows are very sacred in India so drinking cow urine is kind of a religious thing. I have read this from various sources and it is indeed true. I also happened to see a site that had photos to accompany the article unfortuately i dont remember what the site was.

thanks DKSLC that was very educational. Aside from all the "obvious" benefits i shan't attempt to try it unless im dehydrated and near to death in the Sahara or Gobi etc

Hey,
I wouldn't do it either, way too disgusting. But if you are dehydrated or in the middle of Sahara with no water, you can be sure it is safe to drink it.
As disgusting as it may be, it cansave your life.

well said, dude! they won't think twice before eating the scavanger pigs and any kind of flesh, loaded with dead cells and blood but they can show down other people with their half-baked knowledge. You drink a lot of chemicals as meds, stupid...urine is just a chemical...it's just stored in a bladder inside ur body!
