Coke vs. Pepsi

According to the Independent, researchers have proven that the difference between Coke and Pepsi really is all in your head. Apparently the popularity of Coke's brand image causes people to think Coca-Cola itself tastes better, even though it really doesn't taste very different from Pepsi. As the article says: "When asked to taste blind, they showed no preference. However, when the participants were shown company logos before they drank, the Coke label, the more famous of the two, had a dramatic impact: three-quarters of the tasters declared they preferred Coke." I've long suspected this. Personally I can't taste any difference between Coke and Pepsi, but I have a friend who swears passionately that there's a huge difference. Now I can show him this research to prove that he's simply been brainwashed by advertising. Oh, and the Pepsi Taste Test also turns out to be nothing but hot air: "The findings suggest there is no scientific basis for claims made during the Pepsi ad campaign in which testers purportedly chose Pepsi over Coke when they were not told what they were drinking."

Personally I have a slight disposition in favor of Pepsi because its a little sweeter (slightly more sugar) whereas Coke is more tangy (due to more phosphoric acid). Some people can tell the difference and some can't, it really depends on the sensitivity of their tastebuds....But I would also agree the Coke does go better with alcohol (probably due to the tanginess). I'm sure most polls would show an approximate 50/50 split with some regional preferences....It's an opinion, not a fact.
Healthwise, yes - more sugar is bad for you, but phosphoric acid has also been linked to decreased calcium in the bones, because it tends to bind with minerals (including magnesium and some others), so the comments about stomach acid are really moot.
I actually drink Faygo, it supports my local economy more (near Detroit) which is the pits right now.

Ok...let's settle this once and for all. My gf and I are constantly battling makeshift competitions and the latest was the coke vs pepsi challenge. Ten cups were filled with either coke, pepsi, or mixed (which she was never told would be included). Six were pepsi, two were coke, and two were mixed. I doubted for the life of me that she'd get more than half right and I was dead wrong. She got 9 out of 10 right, even nailed both of the mixed cups. So, there are some people with a definite affinity toward the difference between coke and pepsi. Enough said...done!

Well, i guess i will go for the coke because it is good when you open it the bubbles come out like champaign but it is not so, in Pepsi and the taste is always good in the case of coke. So i like coke very much.

I think Coke is better, pepsi is too sugary. I can taste the difference when i drink them. I think Coke has a really nice taste and Pepsi is kind of rough.

All in my head? I've taken 4 blind taste tests and picked Coke every time. Pepsi has a weird after taste - especially diet pepsi. The hotel company I work for switched to Pepsi products and our clients complained so much that we have to special order Coke for all of our catered events. Our employees get soda for FREE in our cafeteria but since they switched to Pepsi, most everyone including our lower paid housekeepers bring in their cokes. Our food & beverage director said that they hardly have to change out the bags for the soda machine in cafeteria since switching to Pepsi as hardly anyone drinks it -even though it's free.

Pepsi is for losers. Coke was their first and it tastes way better. So what if it's carbonated isn't that a good thing? In my opinion Pepsi is just a complete copy of Coke.

This "report" is obviously false.

There's a massive difference in taste between Pepsi and Coke.

First, Coke feels a littler harder than Pepsi. Try chugging a Coke, and then try chugging a Pepsi. Odds are you'll find the Pepsi easier to chug.

Second, Coke isn't as sweet as Pepsi, which might be a result of whatever ends up making it feel harder than Pepsi (perhaps more carbonation).

Finally, there is a slight difference in smell. I don't know how to describe it, but it's there if your nose is sensitive enough.

Anyway, Both suck, I like Dr. Pepper more, but between the two, I'll opt for Coca-cola.

As the old ad says Coke Is It. It disturbs me whenever I go into a restaurant that doesn't serve Coke. Pepsi is a business that has a lot of smart sales people. They have learned to always undercut Coke. Any mom and pop business that doesn't have a lot of money will think it is all in the peoples heads and will serve a substitute drink instead. What I've learned to do is to buy a 20oz bottle of Coke. Walk into the restaurant like I own the place and drink it. If the manager says anything to me I just smile and say You Don't Sell What I Like. I'm The Customer! And If You Don't Like My Coke I'll Be Happy To Leave.

Ok, my thinking is that people that drink pepsi or coke a lot are like people that smoke cigarettes a lot. People that always drink(smoke) the same brand over and over for years will be able to taste the difference between the two. but if you take someone that has say only tried it a few times or drinks(smokes) them say 1 time a month or so they will not be able to taste the difference between the two. Its all about who you test.

The difference between Coke and Pepsi is like the difference between Republicans and Democrats: it's not very substantial and it matters only to Americans. We foreigners could care less. BTW, how about doing a blind test with politicians too? Does anyone think they could tell from excerpts from two speeches which is by a Democrat and which by a Republican?

PEPSI is way better....it's smoother and less fizzy and harsh

Coke is better because it's less sweet and pepsi is sickly-sweet

Coka Cola is much better than pepsi because it has the best flavors in the world and i took the pepsi test and picked coke and it is sad how the pepsi commercials are and atleast coke doesn't have too copy another drink because pepsi has to copy coke because it is not a better drink.I'm proud to be a Coke Man!
Posted by CokeMan  on  Tue Dec 02, 2008  at  03:43 PM
I say that I Both are at least a type of cola.
Both are a carbonated drinks. Do the bubbles really have to count. As of what my younger brothers says, "Bubbles don't count, only the drink" Why don't you try both drinks when both are carbonated and while both are regular.
They're both a drink that you should enjoy
Don't be angry when someone posts a comment on what is disgusting! Keep any of your rude comments to yourself.

I was just here drinking a pepsi and thinking "BLEH!! I wish I had some coke.."

I never thought about how different they taste. I always thought they were the same and rolled my eyes at everyone who said otherwise. But boy was I wrong.

Pepsi tastes sweeter and coke has longer lasting fizz! I will now forever be a coke fan. I already liked coke better because of the Polar Bears, so I never got anything but coke, but now that my dad bought pepsi, I'm sorely regretting ever opening this can...

I also disagree with this article; I can easily and clearly define the differences between Coke and Pepsi; I've been drinking Coke for many, many years. I've also drunk Pepsi many, many times (forcefully, because the restaurant or area I was in at the time was partial to on brand), all of which I didn't enjoy very much; I'm not a Pepsi lover, though I don't hate Pepsi drinkers.

I like both drinks, but there is a big difference in the taste. Coke has a lighter taste than pepsi.
But pepsi has a sweeter taste than coke.

I think that Pespi is the better beverage. Coke is too sweet!
Posted by Meilssa  on  Thu Dec 25, 2008  at  01:37 PM
I think that this article is wrong because I have loved pespi since I was a kid (I smuggled it into our house because my mom was a HUGE coke nut)I have always been able to tell the difference because I always thought pespi tasted fresher, coke tastes like stale pespi.

Watch "Letters from Iwo Jima"!!! It is a great movie about the Japanese during WW2. It was directed by Clint Eastwood and it kind of a sequal to "Flags of our Fathers". Pespi is better!
Posted by Lauren  on  Thu Dec 25, 2008  at  01:48 PM
Now, I drink at least 2 litres of pepsi a day, and let me tell you, when you drink as much as I, you can tell the difference. I've had 2L a day for 2 or 3 years now, and when it came round to doing the taste test in science, naturally the group wanted to see just how good i was. Out of 13 labels, I picked which one was pepsi, but couldn't discern the rest. Now i don't hate coke, far from it. I love vanilla coke for example, but for me pepsi just "feels" like a better taste. My 2 cents 😊

Ok, Coke and Pepsi are both good, but for different situations. Coke is good to sip on by itself, and so is Pepsi, however, i find diet coke to be worse than diet pepsi. Diet coke has a hollow taste, with nothing in the center (if you know what i mean). diet pepsi is better, however it still is weird because it doesnt taste like adiet version of Pepsi, it tastes like...a completely different soda. My favorite is the Barq's Root Beer which is made by Coke, so im goin With COKE, if i had to choose. sorry pepsi

I don't drink Coke or Pepsi or any soda at all really. However, I'm able to tell the difference between Coke, Diet Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pepsi, and any generics from those as well. I think one of the reasons why some people can do this and others can't is because of the sensitivity of taste buds. Alot of people who drink it frequently could also be getting used to the taste of their specific brand, and so they learn to taste any differences in that flavouring.

As well, in our Pepsi taste challenges here, you only got a prize if you "chose right" and picked Pepsi.

I grew up whith Coke advertizements everywhere.
I still prefer Coca-Cola over Pepsi. I think I just like the logo and the shape of the bottle rather than Pepsi's logo and bottle.
Therefore, I agree Pepsi and Coke are the same,I only like Coke better for those reasons. It seems to give me headaches sometimes, but if it's available, I can't resist!

"According to the Independent, researchers have proven that the difference between Coke and Pepsi really is all in your head"

If you simply look at the nutrition facts on a Pepsi can and a Coke can you will CLEARLY see there are about 2-3 more grams of sugar in PEPSI!!! Coke is king, and I think you have been brainwashed! Stop being a dolt, and learn to research for yourself.
Posted by John Harkins  on  Sun Apr 12, 2009  at  05:24 PM
Coke is way better than Pepsi. Coke is sweet cola goodness with carbonation that lasts forever, while Pepsi is, well, ew... It goes flat before you can drink it all, it goes stale in a month of being stored unopened, unrefrigerated, has way too much sugar that doesn't even help with the flavor, and leaves a disgusting and revolting taste in your mouth, which screams for coca-cola or bust. Rc cola is okay, i like it better than Pepsi.

In general, Coca-Cola is win.

I work for pepsi, I hate pepsi. I drink coke, I love coke. I hate 7up. They are all the same. I hate everyone.
Posted by LarLon  on  Fri Jun 05, 2009  at  07:40 PM
Damnit whoever says that pepsi is better than coke because it has way less sugar is a RETARD. coke has exactly 24g of sugar when pepsi has 23g. how the hell is that WAY less? it makes coke sweeter and more delicious, they both have acid and both are bad for you. soo all that matters is taste. and thats where coke wins.
Posted by Senthos  on  Mon Jun 08, 2009  at  08:24 AM
I have always been a Coke person but that is probably because both of my parents can't stand Pepsi either... my dad said "Pepsi Sucks!" and my mom always said that Pepsi tastes like floor cleaner...

Once when I was a kid I had a fad for Pepsi for a few weeks, but that passed. I never used to care... now if I go to a restaurant and they say "is pepsi ok?" I say no and have to pick a sierra mist or mountain dew, or just water to piss them off.

To me, pepsi used to taste good when they had it in the white/blue/red can... now the all blue can turns me off... I just wouldn't want to drink something that's blue!! coke's can has always been red and it keeps making me want to drink it... and canned sodas are better than bottled or fountain... fountain sodas always just taste like pee now or something...

on another note I HATE dr. pepper almost as much as pepsi, but I love root beer! it's all a matter of personal taste I guess. I want to do a blind test to see if I can tell the difference.
