Poe’s Law and TrueChristians.com

Poe's Law, coined by Nathan Poe on the Christian Forums site, states:

in general, it is hard to tell fake fundamentalism from the real thing, since they both sound equally ridiculous. The law also works in reverse: real fundamentalism can also be indistinguishable from parody fundamentalism.

Cranky Media Guy recently submitted an example: truechristian.com.

It contains passages such as:

So God put Adam to sleep and ripped out one of his ribs and behold, we find out that women originate from bones! So men come from dirt and women come from bone. Now that's real science in action and if you disagree you are going to Hell!

My b.s. meter says it's parody, but because of Poe's Law, I'm not totally certain.

This is also a 'good' site for Poe's Law.

It's a parody all right, check this out: "In the real world we take our sick to church and pray over them until they get better. Usually we have to chain the little ones to beds so when we battle Satan, she doesn't come and attack us. If they survive then we know they had faith, and that God forgave them for allowing Satan to enter their body and make them sick. If they die then well it was just their time and we don't question God, because God has sent these poor souls to Hell to burn forever in torment for their sins. God does this because He loves people."

Remember that the site is supposedly reaching out to the public, empathising with the audience -- even if they were messed up they wouldn't want to freak out their audience point blank like that.

Another is http://www.jesushorses.com

I think it's an intentional satire, but, as Poe says, it's hard to know when fundamentalists are joking (as opposed to being ignorant and/or delusional).

(Note that I'm not saying this about Christians in general. Christian fundamentalist are no more nor less deranged than Jewish fundamentalists, Muslim fundamentalists, Hindu fundamentalists, or other fundamentalists.)

It's definitely a parody. I've been following this site for a while. (He even sort of admits it in some of his responses to emails.) Check out the Kidz Pages. They're hilarious!

"I think it only comes to prove that I'm only painting a mild picture of what Christian fundamentalism is, which is the entire point of this website."

As others have said, admitted satire.
