The Port Orford, Oregon, Meteorite Mystery

In 1856 John Evans claimed that he had found a huge 10-ton meteorite on Bald Mountain in southwestern Oregon. Evans claimed that he could easily find the meteorite again, but he died on April 13, 1861, before doing so. No one, to this day, has been able to relocate this meteorite, leading researchers to conclude that Evans lied about its existence.
